Ok so, since Tumblr is being an over protective Christian mother int he worse possible ‘Carrie’ sort of way, I’m going to ask that ya’ll reblog and spread the word about your favorite writers and artists again. Likes are nice, but reblogging is way better. And with the way things are and tags and searches being literally nonexistence, we need you so much! I know activity has gone way, way down for me and other writers and artists, and now, it’s gotten so much worse. Tumblr has literally fucked up being able to search for anything at all. Your reblogs mater and are so important. If you want to keep seeing content from us, please, for the love of god, reblog. I hate asking this, but it means the world to me to be able to keep creating here. If Tumblr keeps fucking up then a lot of your fvaorite artists and writers may move elsewhere. Hopefully Tumblr will get everyone back to working order soon, but for now, YOU are the most important thing to us creators.
Agreed. Nobody likes or wants to guilt trip but the reality is that, especially if you create mature content or content that could be deemed risky (such as LGBT content) most specifically to advertisers, creators need help in getting their works out there because as we are seeing in real time the built in tools of the system are falling to pieces. Algorithm, what algorithm?! Thus we rely on others to reblog, moreso now than normal (and we already rely on them a lot) to gain exposure and, in the case of those of us who are selling art, pay the bills. It’s why I constantly re-reblog my work: I love making art but as a creator love isn’t eyes on my work or money in my pocket or food in my stomach.
So please consider, if you like someone’s work, reblog it–it goes a long way.
Reblog to save a content creator.
Do you own a Switch? There are no local save back ups on usb or sd card unless you hack so are you saying if you care about data you should hack??? I don't want to but don't want one save on the Switch forever unless you pay. Also, there are no new servers or anticheat so all we pay for is less players for games and the same hackers and lag. That's why we're mad. The price is fine, there's just no upsides. They can have every right to charge but they need to offer something better for money.
I do own a Switch and yes, you're right about no local backups with USB or SD that is true. I'll even give you that hacking at its core is wrong. Those are other problems that need attention. What I my point was was that if you're going to use their cloud back-up, then the likelihood of you breaking your Switch the same day that your subscription expires is low. It's still possible but its a low chance. In terms of servers and anticheat, I can't really argue on, I don't know much about the subject. The amount of players online is going to go down a tad because that's what happens when you charge for something that used to be free. What I'm advocating here is that everyone is making the add-ons that Nintendo is giving us seem like they are more of a detriment than they are a benefit. Im trying to spread the word to the Jo Shmo's out there that dont read into what people are saying. At the end of the day, the service is better than what we had and 20 bucks is a reasonable price. It could be better, like anything, but its not as bad as people say.
RANT: People are overreacting to Nintendo Switch Online and how mediocre it is.
The service had me asking a lot of questions.
Are the cloud saves meant as a backup, or as an optional replacement for local saves? In other words are they mutually exclusive? If it is only meant as a backup, then it certainly isn't the end of the world if they delete your saves the second your subscription expires. As long as you connect to the internet/pay for the service before your Switch gets ruined you'll be fine. It's not ideal, but you’d have to be in a pretty unfortunate situation for those two things to line up. If you're not paying for the service they have no reason to store your data. There really is no need for them to keep your data for longer than a day if you already have the data locally and you only need to connect and pay for the service again to re-upload your data to the cloud. However, if they are giving people the choice of exclusively saving data on the cloud, with no need for saving locally, then that can be pretty shitty if something were to unexpectedly go wrong and your cloud data is erased. But the general populace should realize that if they really care about their save data, they shouldn't only store it in one location. Anyone that works in computers can tell you how necessary that is. Heck, if you own a computer you should know that.
Next, the NES games by themselves are pretty mediocre. Maybe you're a huge fan of NES games and the 20 that they're offering are enough to satisfy you for the rest of your life and more power to you if that's the case, but man would it have been so much better if they were SNES games. That's, of course, ignoring the fact that everyone and their mom has been waiting anxiously for a Virtual Console so they can put their money towards games that they actually want to play! Honestly, I bet anyone would have rathered pay for individual Virtual Console games for the thousandth time at no discount for having previously bought them on past systems, they would pay for 20ish NES games.
The whole 7 day limit for playing NES games is again fishy, but somewhat understandable. Again, is your progress lost for the games you've played that get locked out on the 8th day? If I had to start Mario 3 from the beginning again, that would be annoying, but if not then all I've lost after 7 days is the ability to play those games and has nothing to do with save data. And really, let's be honest. Are you really going to be away from the internet for 7 whole days? If you are, where the hell are you going and why are you bringing your Switch? Even further, if you're gone from the internet that long and must bring your switch, are you really going to be so unprepared that you won't have a full Switch game on hand? Again, they're just NES games. No shade but you've got to be bringing bigger and better games with you.
The service, I'll agree, for something that was free up to this point, is mediocre. But everyone's treating it like the end of the world because "Nintendo is going to delete our saves!" or "Nintendo is forcing me to connect to the internet to play NES games!". The reality is, is that Nintendo had given us a 565-free-trial for a service that they have every right to restrict if you are not using it or paying for. It's 20 bucks... a year. You're going to have to do a lot of convincing to tell me that you will be inconvenienced by paying for this service.
