Zoo Miami temporarily closed down today due to a bomb threat. After evacuating and security sweep, thankfully the threat has been deemed a hoax.
Still, scary to go through that. Hope Zoo Miami staff are doing ok.
It really goes without saying, but please don't do this kind of stuff folks. It's not funny. A lot of zoological staff are increasingly on edge lately too due to increasing pressure from activists already, on top of having to deal with active shooter training because gun safety in America is a mess right now.
We don't know who made this hoax or why. Could have been some stupid teenager being a troll for all we know. Either way, it's not a joke, I don't care who the target is. Stop it.
The fuck is with all the bomb threats lately? I haven't started work yet but woke up from a nap to emails about the place being evacuated for a bomb threat today. Zoos across the country have gotten them over the last few days. My mom's work got one about a month ago, and a couple weeks ago she was shopping at Walmart and had to evacuate for a bomb threat and it turned out that week there were just...tons of Walmarts getting bomb threats. Guess its zoos and aquariums this week?
Like there's always been bomb threats, they've always existed. But they used to be so much rarer, I've never seen this many bomb threats all around before. What the fuck is going on?
Is anyone else keeping up with how many bomb threats are going on right now??? There have been so many, at schools, at zoos and aquariums, hell, I think even a Walmart locally. It’s everywhere! What is going on!
And even more, Columbus Zoo has a shooter threat today after a bomb threat this weekend!
the issue with growing up in the 2000s and 2010s was like there was this really big push toward "accepting your weirdness" overall but they meant like idk wearing mismatched socks or something not being tangibly beyond the norm in any way shape or form
For anyone unaware, this week Scotland elected our first ever trans members of parliament

‘Nuclear Family Month’ is so funny as a concept. I have never seen a nuclear family worth celebrating.
The problem with the concept of the ‘nuclear family’ and further, the glorification of it by the American right and their feeble attempt at launching Nuclear Family Month, is that it is a concept built on the Christian patriarchal family structure. A man should be the leader of the house, parents should have ownership over their children, children having more than two parental figures or aunts, uncles and grandparents living in the home challenges this. It’s not that a straight couple and their children can’t form a healthy family structure, it is that the glorification of the ‘nuclear family’ as the gold standard of family situations pushes individualism, stigmatizes divorce and multigenerational households and continues to push the 1950s-esque ‘Children need a mommy and a daddy, no matter how fucking evil the mommy or daddy is.’ bullshit. There are so many children that did not grow up in ‘broken’ homes and suffered for it. Stop staying together for the kids. The support and involvement of the extended family in childrearing isn’t inherently trashy or lazy. Families come in so many different shapes and sizes and prioritizing and romanticizing the nuclear family continues to harm everyone.
Yes yes i know love is love. But they are still killing CHILDREN. over this.
ALL. OF. THIS.

Lately I've been wanting to experiment with adding more texture to my art and this commission let me do just that! Bison are some of my favorite animals (both European and American varieties) so this was a pleasure to draw!
There is definitely a phenomena where people try SO hard to avoid anthropomorphism they end up looping around into this quasi-religious stance that humans have some essential non-biological quality that sets us apart from other animals. Like being so cautious about how you describe emotion experienced by a nonhuman animal that you go "that animal is not 'happy' it's just demonstrating a response to positive stimuli and receiving chemical reward signals" as if that's not also what human emotion is at the fundamental level.
Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.
Praying for a safe journey back to the spirit world, Uncle ❤️🩹🦅
Today is the anniversary of the death of Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill, Parks and Rec). Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who died protecting his transgender husband, on the first day of Pride month. Today we remember him and how he protected his family.
Fantastic idea
Article about it here.
what’s important to note and missing from the “headline” tweet is that they simultaneously constructed additional good public transit to the public transit already in the city (bus rapid transit, train stations). Just removing highway alone isn’t going to make traffic better, the bigger part of the story is that they improved public transportation. And the current mayor wants to do more - cyclist lanes and reinstate a tram system
The assholes openly admit it. The whole point of college is to enforce the hierarchy. When those who were supposed to be low on the hierarchy started going to college, the assholes get angry and want to make them suffer for challenging the hierarchy.
Bro they DRILLED it into us (I'm Gen Z) that if you don't go to college, you'll be working at McDonald's your whole life (back when that was a bad thing, before they started whining that nobody wants to work there). My mother would go on rants about how I wasn't studying hard enough and how embarrassing it would be for her to have a daughter that didn't go to college, and I remember her being absolutely FURIOUS when I simply IMPLIED that I didn't want to go to college. From 9th grade onwards you were expected to have at least 4 colleges in mind, and we spent a good chunk of 12th grade English working on how to apply to colleges.
All this to say that, yeah, the revisionist history is bs, and if they're actually trying to make it catch on then we have to spread the word of what life in the 00s and 10s was like.
Also "their big sin was liking their children too much" fuck all the way off omg
Thinking about a girl I grew up with who spun her dog's fur into yarn, then knitted gloves out of the yarn and how all the other kids made fun of her mercilessly for it.
And how she's now used those gloves for over thirty winters and each time she puts them on, she gets to pet her beloved dog's fur even though Ginger is long gone. And how even though her bones have long since been swallowed by the earth, Ginger is still protecting her owner from the cold.
Just an ancient pact, passed down from the earliest dogs that slept beside humans to keep us warm, continuing on for decades after one of their deaths.
this pride month we’re all going to be radically pro transgender. or else.
This counts as fan art
