Little (literal) shower thoughts headcanons for my eridian grace thing that I think are also a little upsetting:
- grace did not get "reborn" as an eridian, the original grace died and the eridian grace's crystaline brain houses an exact copy of his conciousness
- grace's brain started to deteriorate after several years on erid, faster than usual in humans
- eridians came up with a technology to "save" grace's brain, by copying it, basically. The idea was so that his knowledge could still be used in the future (grace actually came up with it)
- the copy is a little corrupted, grace really was starting to wither the older he got
- grace died before the copy could be completely finished, so there are "holes" in its memory
- putting that conciousness into an eridian body, however.. not exactly grace's idea, and done without his consent (after his death)
- it was a kind of selfish movie on rocky's part, who couldn't bear to live without grace when the solution was RIGHT THERE (trying not to think about the fact that this wasn't really HIS grace)
- adrian and rocky had a huge disagreement about it, but in the end decided to go through with it (adrian knew, after all, grace had never really been done living. Remembered the fear in his eyes when he was fading)
- eridian grace doesn't remember the last few months of original grace's life, and assumes he must've told the eridians to "upload" him into his new body
- he's conflicted about his new state of existence, but endlessly happy to think mostly clearly again, and be with his mates
- he misses many things about being human
- is he even real? He feels real. His memories are real. Are they? There's a body buried on the beach that isn't his.
- adrian and rocky spoil him so much (they feel guilty)
- other eridians think grace is scary as fuck, like uncanny valley
- grace can "hum" in a distinctly human way
- grace's new body is in his 300's, middle aged for an eridian, but strangely unblemished for his supposed age
- eridian technology in making synthetic bodies was already pretty far ahead actually! Turns out molding minerals and metal into functioning frame was significantly easier than whatever humans have to do to create a new limb
