in general, opening a conversation about feeding tubes & normalizing them is so so so important to me. so if you have any questions, thoughts, or requests regarding jackie please feel free to send me an ask and i’d be very happy to respond!!
𑣲 jackie decorates her pumps to make them feel less medical. her room is already overtaken by medical supplies, she needs to find the joy where she can
𑣲 similarly, jackie loves having doodles on her feed bags. often times nat will draw on them for her or write an encouraging messages. often some variation of “i can do hard things” when jackie is struggling with tube feed intolerance
𑣲 jackie has beads of courage to symbolize her journey. each color represents something different - a night spent in the hospital, IV/blood draw, tube exchange, surgery, etc. jackie hangs them her IV pole with pride
𑣲 it’s often very therapeutic for her to string the beads and organize them into piles. it helps jackie put into perspective what she’s overcome and how far she’s come. sometimes it can be hard for her to look at - the ever growing reminder of the trauma. but nat says it shows her strength. she has made it this far, she has it in her to keep going.
𑣲 jackie has so many fun tubie pads, port covers, and clips. they help keep her tubing organized and her stoma clean. and just as important - they’re fun! jackie loves matching them to her outfit or finding ones in fun shapes. it makes her tube feel more like an accessory and less like a medical device.
𑣲 laura lee, who has always been very crafty, learns how to sew them for her. she also makes organizational cases for jackie’s syringes, as jackie is always losing them.
𑣲 jackie has various dolls & stuffed animals with nasal and/or surgical tubes to match hers. they bring her a sense of comfort (she always brings her tubie bunny to the hospital with her) and the representation is so important. she never sees herself out in the world, but at least she can have a doll that she matches

⋆ Nat is sooo giggly and chatty in the queue, more so than usual. It's a surprise to see her so animated, but it's a good one
⋆ but when she gets to the front and goes to actually meet the princess, she goes completely shy and clings to Tai's hand and hides her face in her shoulder
⋆ Jackie is the one who makes Nat feel braver - "Natty, we've literally queued for hours and you don't even want to meet her?"
⋆ Elsa is waiting patiently while this happens, and makes sure to tell Nat how brave she was and how it is scary to meet people, and that she was scared meeting all those people on her coronation day!

A/n: I never see anyone really talk about the adult timeline when it comes to regression. I have a lot of thoughts about little!Shauna but I'm nervous about sharing cause I haven't talked about adult timeline character before. Got a bit carried away. These headcanons are sad because it's Shauna. If anyone wants to hear more i'd love to write more :3
• Shauna uses age regression as a coping mechanism whenever she feels sad, lonely, or any other emotions that feel too big
• It's mainly involuntary, and most of the time she doesn't know when a drop is coming until she's regressed
• She mostly regresses between 5-7, but when something has triggered her and she's particularly upset she'll regress even younger, between 2-4. Sometimes when she's around her family she'll regress to 14-16 because it's familiar to her and she can't help it.
• She didn't want anyone to know about her regression, especially her family. When she drops, she takes care of herself, ensuring no one finds out about it. She hides her little gear in her safe, but then gets upset when she forgets where she's put them when little. Inside is a pacifier, a baby bottle, and a cat plushie. She won't allow herself to get anything else because she doesn't think she needs them (or deserves them).
• When she regresses due to feeling lonely, hallucination Jackie will take care of her. Jackie comforts her and makes her feel better. She's everything Shauna could ever dream of. She doesn't feel lonely when Jackie's by her side, and in that moment it feels so real, like she's really there.
• Shauna cries a lot when regressed. It'll start with a few tears, and then she'll start sobbing. And no matter how hard she tries to be quiet she can't help it when she makes loud hiccups as she tries to get her breath back.
• Despite being so independent, Shauna doesn't really like it. She just has no choice. No one will take care of her. She learned that from a young age. Shauna Shipman—butcher—always angry. She hates when she's talking to Lottie or Misty and she gets the feeling like they're scared of her. She doesn't mean to be scary she just has big emotions and finds it hard to process them.
• She struggles to take care of herself when she regresses younger. She doesn't understand anything. She calls for Jackie and she's not there, and that doesn't make sense. Because she's her best friend. Despite Shauna not knowing Jackie when she was two, all of her memories are intertwined with her, and so no matter what age she regresses at she'll look for Jackie.
• The first time Jeff finds Shauna regressed is late at night, after he comes home from working at the store. She's sobbing in the middle of the bedroom floor, hugging her cat plushie for dear life. Her head is buried in between her knees and she's rocking back and forth. Jeff is hesitant to approach her. He's extremely confused because he'd never seen her like that. When Shauna sees him the only word she can say is 'Jackie'. Where is Jackie? Jeff sits next to her, scratches the back of his head, and said she's not here. That makes Shauna sob harder. Jeff awkwardly rubs her back, and tells her that everything's okay. When she stops crying, Jeff wipes away her tears and tucks her into bed, where she passes out straight away. The next day, when Jeff tries to bring it up, Shauna immediately changes the subject, and they never talk about it again.
• Jeff sees certain signs after that. Like sometimes he'll catch her staring into space while sucking her thumb. Or she'll get so angry at something so small. Or when she's cutting the meat she'll stop and rub the plastic side of the knife with her tumb in a repetitive motion that seems familiar to her. She doesn't seem like she's entirely here, rather living inside her head. Jeff doesn't know what to do so he doesn't bring it up and hope it goes away. He ignores when there's a pacifier on the bedroom floor. He pretends he's asleep when he can hear Shauna's sniffles next to him in bed. And pretends he doesn't hear Jackie's name leave her mouth.
• The first person Shauna tells about her regression is Tai. She knows Tai will understand. And she knows she won't judge. They're having a makeshift sleepover at Shauna's because Tai can't sleep and Shauna's always said that when she can't she should come to her's because they're close to each other. Shauna feels safe and not lonely for the first time in ages. She tells her that there's some times where everything feels too big. Where her emotions are too much and too confusing and too overpowering. She can't deal with the horrible feeling of having no one. The ever-present grief. The unprocessed trauma. She tells her she'll enter a safer headspace, a younger headspace. She doesn't understand it herself, but it helps, and she's realised she doesn't think she'll be able to stop any time soon. Tai is supportive and asks questions to what will help in case she drops around her. She tells her to call her whenever she regresses or feels lonely. She doesn't take her up on that offer at first, but she soon does because she's so tired of feeling a neverending pit of grief. Tai makes her feel better. Tai helps.
• When Shauna goes to Lottie's 'retreat', she thinks she successfully hides her regression from everyone. However, Lottie figures it out straight away. She examines that way Tai watches her closely, immediately going to her side whenever Shauna presents a slight change in emotion. She doesn't say anything because she knows what it's like.
• Shauna experiences a lot of self-hatred, especially towards her regressed self. She hates that she's so angry. She hates that she's so sad. She hates that she struggles expressing how she feels, with it coming out in either tears or outbursts towards Jeff or Callie. She feels incredibly guilty and after an outburst, she'll refuse to allow herself to regress, instead choosing to repress it until it causes her to regress incredibly young, and the cycle begins again.
• Shauna likes to write when regressed. Little stories or poems that don't make much sense when she rereads them when she's bigger.
• She likes to watch cartoons that she watched as a child. Her favourite is the care bears and winnie the pooh.

A ── activities. [what are their favorite activities to do while regressed?]
shauna is very shy about her regression, tending to feel very ashamed of and frustrated by it. she likes to journal while teen regressed, angrily scribbling her thoughts out as she stews in her thoughts, blaring her favorite nirvana and wheezer songs. sometimes she'll just blast whichever is the loudest; a small act of rebellion which pleases a tween/younger teen shauna. when she's regressed smaller, she enjoys reading, proudly showing jackie how many words she knows. she's a pretty independent regressor, preferring to keep her regression private if she can, though when she's puppy regressed, she can get pretty needy and playful! puppy!shauna adores her jackie, loving any activity that allows her to stretch her legs or earn praise from the girl.
B ── blankies. [do they have a favorite blanket? what does it look like?]
shauna doesn't really have a favorite blanket; she's found that her bed's ratty comforter is perfectly good for her. she doesn't much care for a lot of blankets, though her comforter has gotten more than it's fair share of use. she's had it on her bed for years, thus there are a few nameless stains on it, and there always seems to be an abundance of crumbs within its corners. she tends to sprawl across it more than actively wrap herself up in or nest in it, oftentimes staring at her ceiling lost in thought, or smoking a joint or cigarette. there are a few ashy stains and a burn or two on the comforter as a result, but nothing that she can't hide. a regressed!shauna tends to confine herself to her room, so while she doesn't consciously seek comfort from a blanket in her regression, her worn bedcover oftentimes serves as a backdrop for her regression.
C ── cuddles. [do they enjoy cuddling? how do they like to cuddle?]
no! shauna's not big on cuddling, being very moody in her regression. while she secretly enjoys cuddling jackie while regressed, shauna would never admit to this! which means she does not enjoy cuddling at all! she tends to get defensive at the idea, finding the intimacy and vulnerability awkward. the suggestion of cuddles oftentimes makes her feel cornered, leaving her to growl in her puppy regressed state, or tear up angrily. she may lash out or isolate, though if it's late and she and jackie are alone, she won't refuse a cuddle, secretly relishing in the closeness and safety she finds in her best friend. however, it has to be jackie's idea; shauna is far too stubborn to ask for cuddles herself.
D ── dinner. [what is their favorite meal to eat for dinner when regressed?]
shauna likes to avoid others while regressed, especially her parents, so she oftentimes ends up eating more snacks than meals while regressed. she'll oftentimes snack on a few slim jims, and whatever other snacks she's squirreled away after school before anyone else gets home. if she's hungrier, she'll usually drive for fast food, stopping at whatever's closest. she's not too picky, though she enjoys meat.
E ── emotions. [do they get emotional when they regress? do any emotions trigger them to regress?]
yes! shauna tends to regress involuntarily as a result of any big feelings whether positive or negative. while she is typically very emotionally repressed, a regressed!shauna expresses her emotions more outwardly, which is one reason she feels very icky ashamed about her regression. she tends to bottle up her emotions until they explode out of her as she drops hard and sudden. shauna struggles to label her emotions, or even consistently recognize when she's feeling something, thus leading to outbursts of frustration while regressed. much to her chagrin, a small shauna may burst into tears seemingly out of nowhere, thus leading her to act in a destructive manner as a way to take back control. shauna additionally tends to be hypersensitive when regressed; the smallest thing can set her over the edge! this plays a role in her tendency to isolate while regressed; she figures if she's not around others, she can't get hurt, nor can she embarrass herself or be judged or hated for her feelings.
F ── food. [what are their favorite foods or snacks to eat when regressed?]
shauna likes slim jims a lot! she's not the pickiest of regressors; she'll snack on pretty much anything. she has a bit of an oral fixation, preferring chewy, long lasting snacks to more crunchy ones, or those she'd have to eat with a spoon.
G ── giggles. [what makes them laugh? what do they find funny?]
shauna's not a very giggly regressor, oftentimes too moody or self conscious to find anything funny. even when she does, she finds herself too wrapped up inside her head to outwardly laugh, or even chuckle. it's only when she's high and regressed to a more toddler headspace, that she'll let herself laugh outwardly, bursting into fits of happy giggles whenever jackie does something silly or tells her a stupid joke.
H ── hugs. [do they like hugging? when do they hug?]
no! shauna does not like hugs at all. not even from jackie. they make her feel trapped and suffocated, or pitied and looked down upon. she doesn't like having her personal space invaded either; as mentioned previously she will only cuddle with jackie if it's jackie's idea and she has the freedom of choice. hugs feel uncomfortable for shauna, especially since they usually come out of nowhere. she'll holler and hit, should anyone offer her a hug, lashing out due to feeling cornered and babied.
I ── imagination. [do they use their imagination a lot when playing?]
shauna is a very imaginative regressor, though it's not often that she fully plays. she loves reading, immersing herself in fictional worlds, and will secretly write fanfiction of her favorite stories in her journal, especially when she's tween/teen regressed. she'll oftentimes talk to herself while alone and regressed, pretending that she's talking to her favorite characters or even those that she knows in real life. whenever she's regressed around jackie, she loves to tell the girl stories, whether they're entirely fictional or based off of their real life. she likes to tell stories of where they'll be in the future, but she also has a few recurring characters she likes to tell jackie about!
J ── jammies. [do they have a pair of pajamas they wear when going to bed? what does it look like?]
shauna typically wears a worn pair of sweats and an oversized band tee to bed. however, when she's feeling extra small, and missing jackie (she's too stubborn to call her!) she'll wear the matching pajamas that jackie got her; pink and green checked pants and a gauzy white top. while shauna admittedly felt a bit suffocated by the gift, a small shauna relishes in the coziness of the pjs, feeling closer to jackie as she drifts off with her thumb jammed between her lips.
K ── kissies. [do they like (platonic) kisses? do they like to give or receive them?]
shauna will play up her disgust whenever she's given a platonic kiss. she really hates the warm, sticky feeling on her cheek, and always feels awkard having to wait until the other party has turned away before she can wipe her cheek off with a flannel sleeve. when she's on the smaller end of her range, she doesn't mind them, warming at the act of jackie giving her forehead a loving kiss, but she's far too embarrassed and shy to give them back.
L ── lullabies. [do they have a favorite lullaby to listen to as they go to sleep?]
shauna prefers to listen to audiobooks to help her fall asleep while regressed. typically, she'll play one of her favorite records, or use a sound machine, but a smaller shauna prefers stories. she'll borrow cassettes and cds from the library, mumbling something about a younger cousin or babysitting as she checks out books from her childhood on tape.
M ── movies. [what is their favorite movie to watch when regressed? what genre is it?]
shauna's regression is for the most part nontraditional! a regressed!shauna loves to watch scary movies while holed up in her room, on the shitty tv that used to be in the den. she likes scaring herself, and is fascinated by the effects used in horror, rolling her eyes at the crappy "fake blood" of the older ones. she's particularly fond of a nightmare on elm street, owning a copy of it after countless borrows from the library.
N ── nicknames. [do they have any preferred nicknames they would want a cg to use?]
shauna is pretty hesitant about nicknames when she's regressed coming from anyone but jackie. she loves when jackie calls her "shaunie", though she's not big on names that involve pointing out that she's small such as "baby", "little one", and others in that vein. when she's puppy regressed she absolutely loves being called "pup" as well! she also likes being called "bear", oftentimes roaring in response when she's on the smaller side. should anyone but jackie try to call her a nickname or petname, however, she'll get fussy and lash out, once more feeling belittled and made fun of.
O ── oops! [do they tend to be clumsy or make a lot of mistakes when regressed?]
not really! since shauna spends most of her time regressed by herself in her room, opportunity for clumsiness and mistakes doesn't often present itself. as mentioned earlier, shauna also tends to be more of an independent regressor, being perfectly capable of taking care of herself and her needs. she may be a bit clumsy while high and regressed, especially since she tends to slip more easily into puppyspace or a younger headspace, but it's not something that bothers her in such a state. when she's regressed around jackie, she may be clingier if she's high, or smaller, but she generally remains capable of taking care of herself. when she's alone, regression for shauna serves more as an outlet to feel and express her emotions, than to be active or play in a way that could be messy or warrant mistakes.
P ── pacifier. [do they like to use pacis? what does their paci look like?]
no! not at all!! jackie got her a paci, and she cried. she's far too shameful of her regression to use any gear at all, but especially such a childish item. using a pacifier is the ultimate embarrassment for shauna, even though she does have a bit of an oral fixation as mentioned previously. she feels simultaneously too proud and too ashamed to use one, having thrown a violent tantrum when jackie presented her with the item, hitting and shouting as her whole body wracked with sobs. shauna would much rather suck her thumb when she thinks jackie can't see her, than willingly use a pacifier. however, should jackie try and correct this behavior, it will only make shauna shut down, feeling embarrassed and more vulnerable than she'd like to. when she's alone in her room, she'll angrily suck on her thumb and fingers, nibbling at them shyly at first even when she's alone with herself.
Q ── quiet time. [do they enjoy quiet activities? what do they like to do during quiet time?]
yes! shauna most prefers quiet activities when she's regressed, oftentimes finding herself annoyed or overwhelmed by crowds and loud noises. she prefers to stay inside, as she's anxious about being perceived in her regression. while in her puppy regressed state she may venture to the backyard, when she's simply age regressing, she stays holed up in her room. her favorite activities tend to be the same as mentioned at the start, as she tends to avoid others entirely while regressed (aside from jackie, and even then she won't reach out first). she loves reading, writing (both journalling and secretly indulging in fanfiction!), and watching her scary movies. she doesn't play much or even really leave her bed a lot of the time; oftentimes she'll simply sit and stare at the ceiling, getting lost inside her head.
R ── regression. [how often do they regress? how do they behave when they regress?]
shauna doesn't regress very often, though this leads to longer periods of regression than she'd like. she typically shoves off her regression until she can't any longer, thus dropping hard when her emotions tend to get to be too much for her. much like she suppresses her emotions, she suppresses her regression, and thus they both tend to crash down on her when she becomes overwhelmed.
as a result, shauna is a very fussy and moody regressor. she may cry at the drop of a hat, something that enrages her and makes her feel nothing but shame, thus leading her to lash out or get destructive, which then leads to a spiral of shame. as mentioned earlier, a regressed!shauna is hypersensitive, lashing out very easily both towards herself and others. she tends to isolate herself out of fear of judgement and embarrassment of her regression. her regression is almost entirely involuntary, although she can be coaxed by jackie on certain occasions.
S ── stuffies. [do they have stuffed animals? what are their names? what do they look like?]
nope! although she secretly really wants them, longing for a friend when she's all alone regressed in her room, she doesn't have any, feeling too shy and embarrassed to be caught with one. she's very shy and insecure about her regression, and is afraid that having a stuffed animal would give her away, or provide an opportunity for others, even jackie, to make fun of her. however, she loves when jackie shows her some of hers, allowing her to play with whichever ones she wants. she struggles to contain her excitement, something that jackie finds adorable, though to spare shauna the embarrassment, she pretends not to notice.
T ── temper. [do they have a temper? do they throw temper tantrums often, or at all?]
yes! shauna is certainly a regressor with a temper, as is probably obvious by now. she often has meltdowns while by herself, which typically are the root of her regression. a reason why she isolates so much, aside from her fear and shame, is her tendency to lash out both verbally and physically at the slightest of triggers. the second she feels remotely cornered, or babied, or made fun of, shauna will lash out in defense of herself. she's a big biter, and once she's latched on she won't let go. she's certainly a handful, hence why she refuses to ask for help while regressed, and why she tends to keep to herself. she feels so ashamed at the way she can behave, though in the moment all she wants to do is protect herself, even if to an outsider her behavior seems irrational or erratic. jackie is the only one who knows how to handle her, and who doesn't seem to hold these tantrums against her.
U ── upset. [how do they express being upset when regressed?]
shauna expresses being upset primarily through lashing out, and engaging in destructive behavior. it doesn't take much to set her off, and given her sensitivity and how overwhelmed she is, she can easily get lost in her larger emotions. however, when she's able to control herself, she'll oftentimes scribble in her journal, or write curse words in as heavy a hand as she can. she may also scream along to angry music; this is the only time she'll allow herself to be loud. when she wants others to know that she's hurting.
V ── voice. [do they speak in a different tone of voice when regressed? how is it different from their normal voice?]
a regressed!shauna will do her best to never speak aloud if she can help it, feeling self conscious of her voice. when she's regressed, there's a softer lilt to her voice, and the lisp she spent so long getting rid of in speech therapy comes back in full swing. jackie made the mistake of pointing this out to her once, causing shauna to shut down sobbing, although jackie had only thought that it was cute.
W ── warm. [what makes them feel all warm and fuzzy?]
shauna's regression is never really warm and fuzzy unless she's intoxicated. she'll oftentimes regress pleasantly after getting drunk at a party, or smoking a joint after practice, getting giggly and feeling more comfortable with being small. she'll give into her more childish whims that she typically finds too shameful to indulge in, getting silly with jackie and even letting her guard down around others for brief moments.
X ── (e)xtra. [additional headcanons?]
shauna becomes very vocal when she's high, especially when she's puppy regressed! she'll bark your ear off, barking at jackie and constantly whining and whimpering for attention. she becomes very clingy and needy, and is not afraid to bare her teeth or growl when she feels afraid. she constantly explores her surroundings with her mouth, which is why jackie had found getting her a pacifier to be such a good idea, but she's far too stubborn to accept it.
Y ── yucky. [what do they dislike?]
shauna really hates being babied! while she may warm up to it if she's small enough, it tends to pull her out of regression and into a highly distressed state. she hates feeling like a burden, or like she's being made fun of, and oftentimes being babied makes her feel like she's being belittled, or somehow taken advantage of. shauna also hates naps (unless she chooses to take them!) and generally being told what to do. she's one of those kids who will do the exact thing their carer tells them not to as soon as they've left the room.
Z ── zzz. [what are some sleep habits of theirs? do they take naps often? do they have a specific time for naps or bedtimes?]
shauna loves her sleep, and hates having it interrupted! while she will immediately get angry and fussy if jackie suggests she needs a nap, when shauna is on her own, she absolutely loves them. she likes to stay up late, but she's often dozing throughout the day and evening in order to be able to do so. you can't tell anyone this though! this is a secret she keeps closely guarded. shauna also tends to fall asleep with a digit in her mouth, whether her thumb, or a few other fingers, the suckling helps her to relax and drift off.

their first christmas in new york, they both try so hard to make special for the other. jackie knows that growing up, nat never experienced good holidays. she never really had a tree or presents or real traditions. but jackie is determined to give this to her.
on the flip side, nat knows holidays were hard for jackie too - just for very different reasons. she knows how much little!jackie would appreciate getting to recreate those experiences, and she wants so badly for her to do it all.
jackie makes a list of all the things she wants to do with nat. and it’s long - very long. what nat doesn’t know, is how many things jackie plans to do just for her.
when little!jackie asks for craft time, she makes a big fuss about needing to be alone. nat doesn’t understand why, and in the moment, it kinda hurts. until jackie comes running out of the living room 15 minutes later with homemade ornaments she’d decorated just for her!
homemade gifts are a very big thing for them. they don’t have a ton of funds and new york is expensive. but nat has always been good at fashioning something out of nothing. she learns to crochet in her free time (which admittedly, van makes fun of her for) so she can hand make jackie new plushies. they come out looking a bit wonky and off, but they immediately become jackie’s favorites
they also make so many decorations together! they make paper chains to hang from the ceiling and jackie shows nat how to cut up snowflakes. nat even makes tiny decorations out of colorful paper for jackie’s sylvanian village
when it snows, they go sledding in central park with tai and van. nat, van, and jackie try to have a race climbing up the big snow covered rocks and they all end up banging themselves up. but hot chocolate from the deli on their way back home makes everything better
