I personally believe Nikki did like Bear, though I can understand why people think she didn't. But I think the bigger point is that it doesn't actually matter if she does or not. He'll never know for sure because he was never brave enough to say anything to her. That's part of the tragedy of their story, especially Nikki's story. Whether she liked Bear or not doesn't matter, her choice was taken away entirely, and Bear will never know what could've been because only what he wants mattered to him.

The decaying wood creaked beneath Julian's feet. For a brief moment, he worried it might collapse before he could finish what he came here to do. He ignored it in favor of focusing on the inside of the bridge. He wrote quicker, feeling as though he had less time to do this now.
