WIP Game

Saw this idea elsewhere on tumblr and wanted to play. 

How to play: Post the names of all the stories in your WIP folder. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! Then tag a few folks to keep it going (or consider yourself tagged if you're reading this).

I’m going to start with tagging @chry5alis-05 because I know they have a ton of WIPS as well. @silverskull @wanna-be-bold @theawkwardanglophile I hope some of y'all will play along!

I'm limiting my list to Chenford WIPs (as I now dabble in other fandoms) and to stories that are at least in the outline stage.

i’ve started to think about ao3 audience interaction as kinda comparable to doing a live reading in an intimate little bookstore, like kudos are everybody who stayed til the end and applauded, comments are everybody who waited to come up to talk to you afterwards, and bookmark comments are the little snatches of conversation you overhear outside.

this helps me feel better/less anxious about responding to comments with some form of thanks, because if someone walked up to me in person and said they liked my work right after reading it, i would compulsively say thanks. it also helps contextualize audience size in a healthy way i think, bc most of us naturally crave more attention on our fic, but if we were actually in the room with even like 20 people applauding and five people waiting after to tell us how awesome we are we’d be fuckin elated.

Just wrote about 1K of a Gilmore Girls fic. Starting out, I thought it might be a short little drabble (or multi drabble, if that's a thing), but then I was struck with inspiration. It is now 4 partially-written chapters. 😄

If only I could have this kind of writing mojo when it's something I'm writing on a deadline. (I'm looking at you, Secret Santa fic exchange)

Thank you once again for complimenting my fics, it truly means a lot❤️ I am humbled because no one has ever asked me about writing advice before🥹 Awesome that you're thinking about writing Vicbourne! I love that there is this surge of Vicbourne fics lately, shows that we are (still) the supreme ship of "Victoria" even if we aren’t canon😎

The first thing I would recommend is that if you feel like writing, WRITE! You don't have to publish it, just write it down. Sometimes it's easier to write something if one doesn't feel the pressure to publish it.

The second thing, take your time! If a story/chapter takes a long time and/or maybe longer than you expected, then let it and do not rush things. The most important thing is that you are satisfied with the result. Sometimes life gets in the way as well.

Third, write for YOU and not for somebody else. Write if YOU think it’s fun and write something that YOU want to write. It’s of course great when other people want you to write because it shows that you are a good writer but you have to want it yourself.

I sadly don't really have any advice for writing Vicbourne in particular, but I often try to say their written lines out loud to see/hear if it sounds faithful to their characters. Another advice I could give is to repeatedly watch their scenes to get a feeling of what things they would say to each other and how they would behave in your fics. Luckily I feel they are very easy to write and that is much thanks to Jenna's and Rufus's chemistry in the show. Also, do research on Victorian times and how it was to live back then, it has helped me a lot.

I know that a lot of us are re-watching Friends, but may I suggest adding the show Go On to your watchlist? The show is currently free to stream on Roku in the States. This is my favorite Matthew Perry's performance. He played a character who goes to group therapy after the lost of his wife and the friends he makes there. It's a show about grief and love and friendship and sympathy. It's silly and funny. It's about asking for help, and how powerful that can be. It's about your found family. It's a heartwarming show. The show is not perfect, and it was cancelled way too soon, but it is lovely and a great way for us to remember him by. <3

Of all the Matthew Parry shows I watched post-Friends (and I've seen all of them) Go On has a special place in my heart. I remember it fondly and I highly recommend it.

I am not emotionally prepared to watch it right now, but my recommendation stands just the same.

Chenford Fanfic Teaser: Sequel to That's What Partners are For

I started writing the sequel right after I finished the first installment. It's been kicking around in my drafts, and I occasionally shake off the dust and work on it. I've made quite a bit of progress this time, and wanted to share a little bit of what I've been working on.

Here are a couple of short excerpts from the first half of the story.

Title TBA (Rated E) After the bomber is caught, Lucy and Tim give into their temptations. Tim decides it's his turn to undress Lucy.

... But every signal he had been getting from Lucy, combined with a gut feeling that grew stronger by the moment, told him—screamed at him—that she wanted him, too. 

Here goes nothing.

Tim leaned a hip on the bar, facing Lucy. Close, but just out of reach. While they waited for a bartender to notice them, Tim lowered his lips to Lucy’s ear so he could be heard over the music. “Do you trust me to order for you?” he asked. “I think I’ve got a good idea of what you like.”

She wouldn’t have expected for such simple words to have such an effect on her. But something about the way Tim said those words filled Lucy’s head with ideas that she had tried to abandon after she walked out of the men’s locker room yesterday afternoon, evidence bags in hand.

Tim had pulled away from her ear, but lingered nearby, not having returned to his full height. Lucy looked up at him slowly. “Yes,” she said. “I trust you.”

“Two glasses of San Matias Cristal, dressed, please,” Tim told the bartender as he handed over his credit card.

“Opening up a tab?” the bartender asked.

“No, I’ll close it out,” he told them. He didn’t plan to be at the bar for very long if things went the way he had hoped.

“Tequila?” Lucy asked him, surprised. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen you drink tequila.”

The heat building inside of Lucy’s body felt like no match for the look in Tim’s eyes when he said, “I wanted to try something new tonight.”

...

“Cheers.”

Their glasses clinked together and Tim’s eyes followed Lucy’s movements as her tongue peeked out to swipe a taste of salt from the rim of her glass before she took a sip. She closed her eyes as she savored the smooth taste of the tequila Tim ordered for her before letting the icy liquor slide down her throat.

Tim took a drink from his own glass, all the while keeping his eyes on her as she lifted the lime garnish to her lips and sucked its juice.

He was overcome with his need to touch her.

His fingers reached for her face and his thumb skimmed across the tip of her nose.

Tim leaned in, his lips next to her ear. “Salt,” he explained, his voice rumbling.

“Oh,” she said breathlessly.

As his lips pulled away, Lucy could feel the warmth of Tim’s breath coasting over her cheek. But Lucy couldn’t tell if the movement bringing their faces closer together came solely from Tim, or if she herself was drifting closer. Their noses now brushing up against each other, Lucy could sense that their lips were just a hair’s breadth apart.

She looked up at him through her lashes. “What are you doing, Tim?”

“This? It’s just… very close talking.”

Lucy shifted in her seat to bring their conversation (and their lips) even… closer. “Mmm, I see,” she said, enjoying the vibration that was created between their bodies.

“And what do you feel like talking about?” she asked, briefly closing her eyes, then opening them to make sure it wasn’t all a dream.

Tim placed his fingers on top of her wrist so lightly, it felt like a whisper.

“You.”

Yes folks, Tim does indeed try something new that night. 😏

The sequel is rated E, so instead of posting a second chapter of the T-rated That's What Partners are For, it will be part of a series.

Please please please I know we all love Friends and Chandler was our favourite character and Matthew always put a smile on our faces and that’s all amazing but can we please please please talk about this:
