Do not use the website called Sci-Hub!

It lets people access scientific articles for free. This is dangerous. It helps the free flow of knowledge and reduces the competitive edge of all the people who worked really hard to have been born into a wealth.

Like, it’s literally a website where you can type in the DOI of an article and read it, without ever having to pay the publisher who exploited the author.

So, again, do not, under any circumstance, use Sci-Hub. I mean, can you imagine a world where knowledge is free and easily accessible to everyone? Even, y'know, poor people?

Libgen also has many books online, including textbooks, searchable by name, author, and ISBN. Can you imagine textbook companies not getting their hard-earned income from poor college students? Another inside tip from academia: Those papers in really expensive journals that are effectively inaccessible to anyone not in a university network? Depending on the discipline it’s very likely that same paper is on a “preprint” server somewhere, with no access restrictions.

Like if you want to read basically any physics, math, or CS paper, arXiv.org will have you covered, because everyone uploads their papers there before submitting to a journal (and generally updates it after peer review). I know all of my papers are on there. This is such common practice that journals have it baked into their licensing agreements that authors retain the right to upload their work to these places.

So the next time you get hit with that paywall, you may not even need sci-hub, just click the arxiv link on google scholar instead.

Many authors of papers are on ResearchGate! You can ask for papers there, if they don’t just post a copy to download. If they’re associated with a college, you can usually find their email addresses in the department directory, also.

On my phone i close all tabs except my two separate messaging apps, but my desktop is organized chaos lol, i always have at least two each of pinterest, tumblr, this website i use to write, youtube, and then i usually have a bunch of games like solitaire and 2048 and snake (and i'm sure if ao3 wasn't blocked i'd have plenty of those)

Not sure if it counts but I'm the worst at closing apps on my phone I have 12 open rn some have been there for over 24 hours lol. I have 10-20 open tabs on my laptop (5 if I clear them out) so often 2 tumblr tabs (so I can look at something else and keep my progress on my dash), a Pinterest tab, a substack tab, a letterboxd tab. Plus whatever other shit I've got going on. Right now it's a word doc, the Wikipedia for the Guatemalan genocide, an article i want to read, another letterboxd tab, the copy and paste 😔 emoji, a 6 minute timer, two vinted tabs, three pie charts because the website won't let me save them, bunch of friends YouTube to refer to for those pie charts, the weather, and a short film. THEN (I'm not done) I have another window for watching stuff so I have the fmhy movies/TV list of piracy websites, dinner in America, a 10 minute work out i like to do sometimes, a dj mix on YouTube, a bunch of friends video for my comprehensive rewatch, and a frankie's shelf yt video. THEN in another window I have my Google drive, a doc regarding a summer project, and another doc of the same.

What a fascinating look into my brain huh.
