Can I just bring attention to how lonely Betty is right now??
That scene where is Edgar Evernever is asking her to join the farm. Was truly heartbreaking.
Betty has almost no support system right now that the audience can visibly see. Jughead has had some serious family drama the last few episodes (which is fine, but we have seen only a few times were Juggy has been able to support Betty on screen). Archie and his boxing storyline. Veronica and her mob storyline. Although, I am thankful that Betty has been bouncing between her and Juggy’s place.
But Edgar wasn’t wrong. Everyone else besides the core four that mattered to her were in that room. Her dad was in prison. For trying to kill her. Yes, Betty was turning to him. BUT ONLY BECAUSE SHE HAS NO ONE ELSE.
Her “best friend”, Kevin -Farmie
Her cousin, Cheryl - Farmie
Her niece -gonna be raised a Farmie
(To say nothing of Toni, Fangs, and her school principle)
These people...now all know her secrets. They all know about chic and the dead body and everything else that her mother told the farm about her. Such an ultimate betrayal.
So, when Edgar Evernever was persuading Betty to join. It’s like he knew how weakened she was. How vulnerable she was. He wanted to capitalize on that, just as how he capitalized on the loneliness of all the other characters in that room.
He was basically saying “join us and you can have your family back”. And Betty. Wants her family.
Then, when you see her almost give in...it’s truly such a moment. It would be so easy for Betty to just give in and join. It would be so easy for Betty to let everything go and be with her mom and sister.
But Betty doesn’t give in. That is just how powerful of a person Betty is. She is being offered a home, her family, her friends. But she knows that there is something seriously wrong with the farm (I mean all the characters should have known that when they found out Evelyn was a 26 year old posing as a 17 year old married to a 35+ something year old)
Anyway, I don’t know why Edgar is honing in on getting Betty to join. I don’t know what’s gonna happen to her at school when Edgar gave his Farmies an order to “catch her”. What does he plan to do once he catches her? Force her into a baptism where she drowns and no one helps her like she did with her mom. I truly don’t know
If Hal is dead. I truly worry about Betty. I hope the writers realize that the Farm story is probably the most intriguing story line this season and will maybe give Betty some more support.
I don’t know if it was a choice to isolate the core four from one another this season, but it feels like it. I am not saying that they aren’t involved with one another at all. It’s just they truly have so many other things happening in each of their lives right now. How can they be a good support for one another?
