there is no excuse for using the r word. none. it is a SLUR, and it’s not suddenly okay to use it because your media is ‘supposed’ to be offensive. i am saying this as someone who REALLY ENJOYED the pilot and doesn’t really care about the vivziepop discourse. i’m just commenting on this specific aspect.

tldr; it adds nothing to the scene, it’s there purely for shock value, making a joke out of it doesn’t make it okay, and if you’re fine with Helluva Boss dropping the r word then you have to be fine with them dropping racist/queerphobic slurs too because it’s literally the same thing, and to say otherwise would be hypocritical to disabled people.

Virgil gets turned into a vampire and doesnt realize it till Logan, an Elder Vampire, approaches him out of worry bc "who just leaves a defenseless newly turned all alone out in the sun of all places???" And finds out Virgils been a vampire for all of three months, whos suddenly on his own and pretty much starving himself because he hasnt been shown how to even eat correctly let alone what to eat??

And while Logan wants to pummel the idiot who turned this poor 20 y/o without a care in the world and left him to starve, Logan has bigger issues to attend to.

So, Elder Vampire Logan decides, ultimately, to take this newly turned in as one of his own. Which is WILD to all the other vampires who know him/know aout him bc Elder Vampire Logan is a serious no nonsense guy whos never been interested in looking after other vampires or starting his own clan before while focused and obsessed with the pursuit of new knowledge, so many other vampires p much have to wonder; "what the fuck did this kid have going for him to have a immortal, whos been around longer than most people on the planet, decide to just up and adopt him as one of his own??" And boi do some of Logans closer, bolder vampire friends visit and ask him abt it while wanting to meet Virgil.

Virgil is confused as fuck and still just trying to focus at suddenly having a new parent that actually cares about him and learning all the things on what being a vampire entails, Logan is doing his best to coach, teach, and not coddle his new 'son' but honestly who can blame him for holding the poor boy for hours after his first meal because Virgil had been so conflicted about finally feeling full despite the fact that he'd drank blood of all things to get to that point that he'd sat and cried.

Logan had picked up a sensitive fledgling, for sure, but if you were to ask him, he wouldnt have wanted it any other way.

and you know what the fucking bullshit is  they’re replacing it with a ~6 months free of a subscription to a third party captions provider~ which of course you’d have to pay for after those 6 months are up and you KNOW random youtuber #9039 isn’t going to bother to keep paying for that either because they won’t have the money or they just won’t care. and youtube’s going to act like that’s a perfectly fine alternative that won’t result in the majority of the site suddenly going from “more or less accessible” to “Fuck You If You’re Disabled” 

“citing low usage” are you fucking kidding me nearly every worthwhile video i watch uses community captions. sometimes they’re kind of janky cuz they were made by some 14 year old who thought it’d be funny to put their own irrelevant jokes and commentary in there but that wasn’t a reason to ditch the feature entirely when its so useful and important

i’m not even hard of hearing and i rely on them to watch videos in other languages…this is literally how people have been making english subs for japanese songs and the like for years and it was great because you didn’t have to reupload the videos yourself and take away views from the original creators. many creators don’t allow reprints of their work whatsoever so if they go through with this (which unfortunately they seem pretty deadset on because lololol moneyyyyyy) it’s entirely likely that there just won’t be a way to watch that content with captions

there’s a petition to keep community captions…i don’t know if it’ll really do anything since they’re already going ~oh but we have Paid Alternatives!~ but don’t just let this pass by this should be a huge deal but i’ve barely seen anyone talking about it (not that i expect people to talk about things of any particular importance on tumblr but it’s not even getting attention on twitter beyond that one thread and like 2 other posts)

This is also going to have a negative affect on people who watch videos in a foreign language since a lot of the subtitles in a language different from the video are community done captions too. Imagine how much harder it’ll be to watch most videos on youtube if you stuggle with English and now none of them are going to have subtitles for you.
