Embarrassed to admit how long it took me to question why Aotearoa New Zealand's biggest sushi chain was called St Pierre's, like, what's that white boy doin' there?

reposting some kira sketches here for lesbian day <3
it's the tiny narrative choices that make deadloch such a great satirical social critique show. a serial killer that targets only cis het white men, who turned out to be abusive assholes while alive and specifically harassed and abused women, and the twist of the lead theory being that the killer is a woman taking revenge / avenging the women in her life, is already good enough of a premise. but you can immediately see how people with zero analytical skills would react to that premise. there'd be all kinds of boo-hoo-ing about the revenge fantasy plot and how either pandering it is or unrealistic it is or how it "targets/shames men" because "not all men" etc etc. but then you have the twist that the killer is likely not a woman, but a man who is seeking the vengeance on behalf of the women in his life. and you go into a possible set of reactions / interpretations that suggests it's satisfying to have an ally realize his fellow men are awful people and he won't be villainized as badly as a woman for taking extreme measures because it's still a patriarchy, but then you get the narrative that the show gives too in breaking the fourth wall a bit with the killer's actual justification: that the ally position is more often nothing but a self gratifying posture that centers ego above actual community. like, the show goes out of its way to explicitly point out that this is a bad, bad take that many people assume. so the killer turning out to be not just a man, but a real serial killer who is independently insane, sociopathic, and psychopathic, and would have always been that way regardless of what anyone in his life was suffering, proves that the show is satirizing the patriarchy within which we struggle to make moral choices to just survive, and pointing out who has never had to worry about surviving under those conditions. basically, i'm saying that it's really really smart for the villain to be a true villain who is absolutely not motivated by real feminism or women's safety and rights, because making that a motive would have given critics desperate to attack a show about women for hating men carte blanche. it completely dismisses that reading, and makes it impossible to argue that real feminism is about women vs men and instead about who has power and who does not. seriously, a very smart show.

I'm having a good time, these are fun.
Another Eddie fanart 💙
Deadloch fanart because I'm obsessed
anyway anyone who has ever yelled at tumblr that they want women that are GROSS that are MESSY that are CRINGEFAIL LOSERS should watch deadloch immediately
Attention all units. The men are not on the bus. Repeat. The men are not on the bus. Skye O’Dwyer is swimming the men out to sea.
This line played out while the actual serial killer, who kidnapped both the men and Skye, was impaled on a rock at the bottom of a waterfall
They cut James' tongue out for us. As a treat.
absolutely amazing that in the end margaret carruthers wasn’t really involved in the main story drama. she was a racist shitccunt who was so caught up in the perceived glory of the carruthers colonialist history that she decided that adding more blood to the family legacy was preferred over returning land back to its traditional owners. she really just spent the entire show caught up in ensuring that every palawa person in the town was as disenfranchised or out of the way as possible while she played knockoff maggie beer. then she got bit by a tiger snake and died.
Finished Deadloch this week and what a brilliant show. Had to drop everything to do some fanart of Dulcie and Eddie.
Dulcie slayed the black and sandals combo so hard ))
why are you all not absolutely foaming feral over deadloch. is this not the queer website? is this not the loving women website?
