Why Amazon Sucks Reason #928374982

Almost a year ago, I ordered a copy of Rube Goldberg: Inventions from Amazon. My mistake for supporting them in anything but an emergency. I got the book on the right:

The book on the left however is the one I ordered. To be clear, this was not from "a seller on amazon," this was from AMAZON itself.

Note that it shows and claims to be the authentic book on the left above. But it was not, it was a shit-tier print-on-demand bootleg, made by Amazon itself and not Simon and Schuster as the page claimed:

I tried to report this to the publisher but the only thing I could find was an email address on their site that nobody replied to.

If anyone out there knows anyone in copyright law or the publisher, please let them know about this. Amazon is literally turning the publisher trademark into unreadable crap.

For the love of god if your native language is different from the majority language of the country you’re living in don’t raise your baby speaking the local language. Either have each parent speak to them in a different language or only speak your native language at home. The kid will be okay. Get your native language in their head. You may think you’re helping them in the long term giving them the local language but no. When they’re an adult they’ll wonder why you never taught them your language. They can and will learn the local language in school. They’ll be okay. Produce more bilingual children. They are good for society.

And also, being bilingual helps with executive function. Not all kids have to reach the same language development at the same time as everyone else, it’s okay to have your kid speaking in more complex sentences a month or so later than the “normal” kids.

I've studied the science linguistically but I'd like to put that aside. PLEASE teach your kid the native language. It can go so much deeper than "wondering why", it can create a schism-like pain when you know there's a heritage you have but all access has been cut off. Yes, ALL. If you're fortunate enough to visit the country of your native language but dont teach your kid, they will be miserable, quiet, and alone, and go through difficult phases of hating that heritage because the ladders were cut for them.

And in the United States, this starts young. I've seen teachers tell a Kazakhstani parent that she should tell her kid to speak English INSTEAD. The kid was 2 and a half. A friend's five year old told him "Dad this is America we dont speak Chinese". If you don't teach your kid your native language this country will wrest all pride and heritage from them by force. An occasional visit or two to the home country will not stop the bleeding.

The pain of not speaking the language of my heritage is something I don't wish on anyone. And that language is one of the most spoken in the world, imagine if your native language is rarer. What happens? What happens?

Even knowing that they're on the same side now, even knowing that they've both sworn to protect the same thing, Tails can't stop the bolt of fear that shoots down his spine. He may have fooled Maddie, but they still know.

"I just want to be normal." He feels dirty as he says it. It's a filthy lie, and he knows it can only be upheld for so long.

"Why?" Knuckles prys. "You have an outstanding ability, and it deserves to be recognized. I'm sure-"

"Stop." Tails snaps, wilting immediately afterward. "I'm sorry, just- I just want to be normal. Please, don't tell them." Tails musters the most pitiful face he can, the one that used to work on the old ladies of the village, back when they would still take pity and give him leftovers.

Knuckles nods gravely. "Very well, if that is what you wish. As long as there is no danger to us or the Master Emerald, we shall keep your secret."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm my own person, Knux. Let me speak for myself." Sonic flashes a cheesy grin. "We've got your back, buddy." He holds out a closed fist, an invitation for another Power Bump.

Tails considers himself, just for a moment, to be a master actor as he keeps himself from letting anything show. Just a straight face and a small smile instead of breaking down in overwhelming gratitude. Even so, his heart never stops sinking. Even Knuckles and Sonic, who know he's a freak, don't know the truth. They don't know he's a cursed freak. He hasn't told them about the storm and plagues he's brought. The crops he's ruined with a misplaced thought or careless word. Some part of Tails still clings to the idea that by leaving Mobius, he's left the curse behind. That it was somehow tethered to Westside Island instead of his mutation. He knows better. (But, he'd sworn an oath, so here he'll stay. At least until his hand is forced.)

The demonization of actual charities/orgs in favor of individual GFMs has done nothing but stripped marginalized people of their privacy + dignity by forcing them to become internet celebrities in order to get their needs met as opposed to an org that could privately help them if said org had the funding!!!! Also it’s why people feel the need to go as far as to fake their own kidnappings just to get traction! Not to mention it’s just made the lives of grifters so much easier

To circle back, who benefits more from this? The 65 year old drug addicted woman on skid row who can’t read or the young hot gen z college kid with 10k tiktok followers? This bastardization of “mutual aid” combined the constant like mining dopamine cycle social media has done almost irreparable damage to young wokey people especially young people of color.

Making every poor person dance for the internet in order to get their snazzy twitter begging flyer traction will only set people up for long term failure.

Imagine: I’m a young person down on her luck so I beg on twitter with my real name and face along with every personal detail, I get my coin, I am actually able to put myself through schooling but now whenever an employer googles me they can find this incredibly personal information about me!

I have nothing but sympathy for people who are in a position where they urgently need money and need it fast but we should instead put that money towards orgs whose whole job is to PRIVATELY help people

Every once in a while I’ll find myself watching something that makes me go “wow, there was a whole group of people that came together to make something beautiful.” It’ll remind me of why I want to pursue animation. That’s how I feel about Craig of the Creek. I feel like I’ve already talked ad nauseam about my love of the show but I really just wanted to say thanks again to the creek crew for creating such a magical show. From storytelling, to writing black characters in such a humanizing, compassionate and loving way that warmed my heart. Words can’t even fully describe how much this show means to me.

To anybody who worked on the show if you read this. no matter how big or small your contribution was to the show, I hope you walk with pride in your heart knowing that you worked on something special. I wish you all nothing but the best moving forward.

This won’t be the last time I draw Craig and the creek kids lol but I wanted to take the time to draw what I think of when I think of cotc.

Truly, thank you for showing how beautiful life can be.
