The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

There's SOMETHING here that I can't QUITE put into words. But Mettaton wasn't one of the lost souls you could save during Hopes and Dreams. He's not standing on the side of the mountain OR in the photo of everyone together in the True Pacifist ending. And part of that IS because he went home- to Napstablook- but I dunno. Reading the alarm clock dialog recently it sorta made me feel like he didn't actually really bond with the other monsters as well as he did Alphys. He's there, but he's a celebrity to them still- distant. Most of the other monsters we encounter are his fans. And that's not a relationship that prompts much intimacy or closeness. To the monsters, he's their idol. Their symbol of hope. Their superstar. But I think very few of them, like... know him? Personally?? His cousins and Alphys might be the only ones who DO know him as more than a celebrity, you know?

#not to mention his robot body is human shaped.#It's not “formed” like any other monster down there #It's not shaped like snowdrake or one of the dog guards or a skeleton its not anthro it's not an imp #It's shaped like a human in the same way most robots are made to appear human #which means nothing #surely #but I think it does #That he likely asked for it to be human shaped #transspecies allegory?
