Autism risk genes also linked to higher intelligence

Genes linked with a greater risk of developing autism may also be associated with higher intelligence, a study suggests. A thought germ that may not spread very well because it does not really touch on any particularly strong emotions. However, I can attest to those on the spectrum having a sometimes higher fluid intelligence, and indeed this isn't the first place I've read about higher intelligence in Autism, perhaps I will be able to find more at some point. Anyways, this also left me with some questions. How exactly have we linked autism with particular genes when the diagnosis has changed in recent years (from my understanding it's become more constricting so Asperger's is no longer a diagnosis and all is classified under ASD)? I don't quite understand why it has been lumped together when it seems to me that Autism, AS, and PDD were three separate things?

This was one of the things cgp grey shared and I think it's important. Occasionally academic institutions will be criticized for a "liberal bias" and not having enough diversity on the political spectrum.There certainly may be things contributing to the political views of academics such as the willingness of democrats to fund them more and more smartly (as the census bureau has criticized the GOP for under-funding in the between years causing increased cost in the long run), and people with more "left" leaning views tending to more likely go into research and education. But on the other hand I think that research tends to side with the view of moderate democrats and far left progressive democrats especially as the Republicans tend to get more and more extreme as the years go by. I just found out recently that even economists who often are taught from the point of view of laissez-fair economics are a majority democrat

So I am a math major and while I love The Fault In Our Stars, there is a reason it is perhaps my least favorite of John's books. It takes one of the most beautiful ideas of mathematics, this idea that some infinities are bigger than others, and completely misrepresents it. Above is Vihart explaining.

And minutephysics if you prefer  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-QoutHCu4o&spfreload=10 I wish I had video of my award winning university expand on it to talk about the continuum hypothesis, a hypothesis that says that there is no cardinality between the infinities of countable and uncountable (and indeed between the real and all subsets of reals), and Godel's famous incompleteness theorem (both can be seen on Wikipedia) as that lecture was one of the first that opened my eyes to the true beauty of mathematics. (though since then I have seen the normal distribution derived, the Ergodic Theorem applied to group theory, the Gersgorin disc theorem, the infinite nature of primes, and many other surprising and beautifully unintuitive and intuitive statements in and across branches of mathematics) Basically, I know John Green did not do this intentionally, am proud to be a nerdfighter, and know that the brothers are generally pro-learning. Seeing the quote "some infinities are better than others" John Green, all over the internet kind of bugs me though. (Though at least it was in fact his quote :P)

(Sometimes I don’t know how to help the folks in my life who are trans and have to put up with bigoted shit like this all the time, but I thought seeing lots of notes on this post might help at least a tiny bit.)

It would probably be better for everyone if this did not go against the ACA but if it did I can't help but wonder if support would swing in favor of the ACA. I am wondering how it would effect the overall economy in conservative states versus states who accept the ACA and if conservatives would fall further out of favor.
