Low-stakes writing and reading challenges for the Stardew Valley Fandom. Smut friendly. Writers: Weekly goal of 500-1000 words/week or 100 words/day for those who like routine. The aim is encouraging SDV fanfiction, but if you end up writing for other things, that's still great! (Prompts and recs are not spoiler-free.) What Is This Blog?

This is a low-stakes fandom challenge blog for all fans of Stardew Valley who are interested in either writing or reading fanfic. Since life and interests can be wild sometimes, I totally get if someone uses this challenge as encouragement to work on other things. (OP is a multifandom mess.)

Feel free to participate in only one or both or whatever you want and if you need to skip a week or multiple due to life shenanigans, no worries! Pick it back up when you can :)

Feel free to @ the blog if you'd like to make a post on your own blog for a writing/reading challenge post and want it boosted! Note: If submitting your fic posted on tumblr, please include a readmore cut after the first few paragraphs! This blog avoids page stretching and scrolling issues for the stardew fans who follow it.

Part I, Chapter I: Theseus

Summary: Twenty-Five years after the events of The Valley Burns Blue, Nick Spencer is fighting for his life once again. The influence of Mr. Qi still soaks the valley, and the entity himself is looking for a doorway back into this world. Nick is lost in the labyrinth, and the only way to get out and stop the Blue Sun from rising again is to face the ghosts of his past.

Sebastian stabs his finger into the 'off' button on the radio, silencing the grating sound of Morris Tod— now re-branded as Dr. Maurice, post-prison— spitting into his microphone.

"I was listening to that," Ms. Talbot grouses, glowering at him with her watery, cataract-clouded gray eyes. She points a trembling, gnarled finger at him. "I want to listen to my program." She says it like 'pro-grum'.

Sebastian just stares at her, his eyes glassy and rimmed with dark circles.

"Did you hear me, young man?" she scolds. "I want to listen to my program."

'Young . . . that's rich.'

It's been some time since anyone has called him a young man, but Ms. Talbot looks like she remembers the day Yoba peeled the fruit of the earth. The long black hair hanging past his shoulders is streaked with gray, he's got some lines on his face now, and lately he's found himself squinting when he reads. It took some hounding from both Penny and Nick for him to finally purchase a pair of readers, but he doesn't have them with him now. They would likely just agitate the long, jagged cut along the bridge of his nose anyway.

"I have a headache," he says, his tone flat as he fixes Ms. Talbot with a dead-eyed stare. As if to elucidate his point, he delicately runs his fingers along the edge of the large bandage covering the left side of his forehead.

She growls in response, a low, wavering groan that could be mistaken for a death rattle. He ignores her and crosses back through the curtain that divides the space in two, wishing more than anything that they'd given Nick a private room.

An excerpt from the Leather Jacket prompt for SebSamber (Vincent is about 6 months old, Sam is 16):

Sam loved Vincent to the moon and back, but the kid had a set of lungs on him that made it impossible to sleep. The second was the kid's song playing non-stop in his head, although that was probably Vincent's fault, too. The only way to get him to stop crying seemed to be singing about a song that had no ending, using various funny voices each time it repeated. Unfortunately, since song itself had no end, that meant it played over and over again in Sam's head, too, long after Vincent had calmed down.

Still, Sam knew his little brother wasn't really to blame for his restlessness. No, the blame for that lay squarely on his best friend's shoulders… or rather on the jacket that protected those shoulders from the elements.

Okay so I made a list of 30 (well, 29 actually) prompts I am releasing into the wild. The point of this is that at least one of the participants are not having a good time.

Nothing stays the same - Chapter 19

Overall summary: Sebastian, Sam, and Abigail have been best friends for years, little changing even as they all grew well into adulthood. Much like everyone else of their generation in Pelican Town, they've struggled to get on their feet and find independence, but the familiar comfort and stability of the way things have always been has been good enough for the three of them. After Sebastian and Sam's ex-friend Mallory returns to town after a decade away, however, they begin to wake up from their sleepy status quo and crave more. At least, Sam and Abigail crave more— Sebastian is afraid that change will shatter everything he holds dear.

A midquel to Coming Around Again, taking place during the events of that fic.

Chapter 19 summary: The Luau comes again, and Sebastian is doing everything he can to make peace with Sam and Abigail's relationship to maintain their tenuous friendship together. He finds himself getting protective and possessive of Mallory and tries to stop himself, but he continues to struggle internally.

It Takes A Village Chapter Sixty-Four: Home

It's Tuesday, so it's time for another chapter in It Takes A Village James leaves the clinic, but encounters a mystery before he even makes it back to the farm

With Scratch at his heels he walked carefully up the steps towards the community centre but veered off from the path to it as the footsteps reappeared heading towards the playground. It wasn’t very late, but the sun had set and the air was growing cooler. The snow crunched underfoot as he walked towards the playground, his breath fogging in the air before him. Everything around him was silent; Between the falling darkness and the hush from the snow covering everything he could have believed he was alone. But the footprints lead to that bush. And the bush is shaking, even though there’s no wind.
