I really truly could never hate Jayfeather. Capturing the experience of being treated differently but instead of the feelings of misery and loneliness its the bitterness of it all. Wondering why you exist if you were just going to be life's punching bag. Being told that you will never achieve what you want in life because god has it's own plan. Then learning that the person who told you that is actually your mom and you hate her but you love her so much that the void of her being gone is too much. Looking at another one of god's chosen and seeing who your sister should have been. Looking at her and seeing yourself and then never building a close relationship with her because why get attached at this point. Your brother/cousin who you may or may not have weird feelings about because he's basically a you replacement for your adopted mom brings in a gray kitten with green eyes and tells everyone that she's special and chosen and you are just. Beyond tired of it. You never want to hear those words again. Also the only person who truly understood you and your experiences dies. Then broken code happens. Fast forward a little bit and now there's a kid who is "special". Who is othered. Who resents herself for existing and the voice in her head for following her. You look at her and see yourself, and realizing that you have no one else. You decide to try and get it right this time.
