gaming queer month 2026: Text based queer games (not choice of games based)
Bastard of Camelot: I am such a big arthurian fan and llamagirl (the creator) has been a staple of arthurian fandom. Their game is simply fantastic, currently at chapter 5 so in this list this is the most "incomplete" of games, but so worth it. You play as Mordred (any gender), meeting the father who abandoned you and deciding how to deal with the prophecy that says you will be his end. There are multiple romances, Galahad being my favorite because I love enemies to lovers, and I love games that let me romance a character while being anatagonistic to them;
Throne of Fire: Talking about enemies to lovers, Throne of Fire has currently two routes (Nour and Ruben romance, respectively non binary and male characters) complete with future routes planned. You play as a captured prince rescued by Ruben, a dragon prince from an enemy kingdom, or Nour, a prince who used to be your bethroted. The different routes are other romances/character rescuing you, which is why if you play the Ruben route you play the full story, just with Ruben only. The game allows you to romance characters with so many little differences in attitude (you can like him immediately, hate him, distrust him etc.), and also allow for your character (any gender) to react their imprisonment in varied ways (also the imprisonment is different in each route). TW for SA in Rouben's route, but that is optional and can be opted out. Demo is free;
Demonology: Incubus: Ongoing text game, but can also be played as a complete one as the current chapters end the main current plot lines a part from the protagonist's past mystery. The game is still being worked on, so hopefully we will have a new chapter soon! You play as a detective (any gender) investiganting the supernatural. Through one of your cases you end up working with Flea, an incubus who hides much more than his seductive persona. Really amazing, one of the best videogame romances I have played! TW for domestic violence and general violence.
The Second Sight: Dead Reckoning: If I am not wrong this is a completely free and full game! I am still at the beginning so i do not have much information for now. You play as someone who has supernatural abilities and usually works with their adoptive father to solve cases;
The Remainder: Chronicles of Tal'Dun: Another of my absolute favorite games! This has some visual novel elements mainly in the form of art that accompanies the text. You play as a powerful wizard (any gender) who wakes up in their tower, remembering nothing about what happened to him and much more. Your assistant (who is also the romance story of this game) reveals that you used a powerful spell and ended up separating your souls from your bodies. Of course, much more is going on, and you will need not investigate over and over again (you will die many times!) to truly uncover your past. The romance made me cry multiple times and the happy ending felt extremely well deserved and earned.
Sorcery!: If you are on my blog you know this game given it is one of my favorite rpgs ever. You play as the Analander (m or f), a man sent to recover a powerful magical Crown, stolen by an evil wizard. The game is divided in 4 chapters, each one set in a different area. The game has a lot of choice/consequences options, combat, dice games, and of course romance. There is only one romance option (male), an assassin you can spare in game 1. He will return in game 2 to help the player, and then the main romance content will be in the fourth and final game.
80 Days: An adaptation of the novel Around the World in Eighty Days. You play as Monsieur Phileas Fogg's manservant and you need to help him find the correct routes around the world to win his bet. There are two routes that can lead to a romance with two different male characters.
Hoping this finds you well: Victorian era inspired queer game where you play a romance between two male characters by reading/writing their correspondence.
Shepherds of Haven: Ongoing text fantasy videogame. The first 8 chapters can be purchased, and the free demo is also pretty long. In this game you play as a magic user in a world where magic is not legally allowed. You end up joining the Shepherds, a military group allowed to use magic to combat demon-like creatures. The game has quite a lot of mystery and different missions you can go with different combinations of your companions. The cast is quite big and most of the characters are queer and can be romanced.
Notable mentions (has some platform gaming elements):
Non-binary: text choice game with a platform like gameplay too so I am cheating a bit, but it is mainly text. This strange small game was pretty touching (and can be pretty triggering I think). You will play as two possible characters, both non-binary, avoiding gendered words (in the shape of blue square or pink triangles), trying to go through childhood to adulthood without breaking down. It is mainly a self discovering journey for the two protagonists.
