Do any of you have stories of things that you grew up thinking are impossible, because you were taught by your parents that "nobody can actually do that in real life", and that being able to do something like that is only something that happens in fiction - and later on told you that you're wrong or imagining things when you'd point out that you actually can do that.

And then as an adult you suddenly find out that it's not just an extremely common thing to be able to do, but as a matter of fact your parent(s) were an outlier for not being able to do it. And lacking self-awareness they had concluded that nobody else can actually do that either, everyone is just lying about it for no apparent reason.
