I cannot overstate how deep my anguish runs, how livid my anger makes me, how fucking embarrassed I feel, when I see the selection of dubs that TADC has and hear it.

even the worst of dubs sounds like pure blissful music to me who was never able to properly enjoy most of my favorite media in my own native language.

for context, I'm a Romanian speaker and dubbing in it is effectively non-existent except for children programming and whatever Disney can afford to produce for whatever thing they have on their streaming service. aside from those, you have to rely on subtitles in Romanian, or better yet, you can be told to kick rocks and learn English if you are fan of popular, but non-traditional media.

it's gotten so bad that there is basically this expectation from Romanian speakers to know English for the purpose of "opportunities".

listen, I don't mind learning the language if the job I want to do requires it for work or for further specialization, but I don't want to fucking have to learn a whole ass language just to be able to enjoy and understand video games.

not to mention there is a whole conversation to be had about accessibility for people who cannot read subtitles or do not have the ability or resources to learn a language.

I feel like there are so many Romanian speakers who were just never able to be introduced to certain media or be incentivized to organize their own communities and fandoms around such media because it's just easier to just stick to the English speaking fandom.

I don't want to say it's bad they do or that people can't do that, it's a perfectly rational thing to do, and that's what's making me depressed about the relevance of my language.

Romania has two neighbors who have much stronger stances on translating and dubbing media, those being Ukraine and Hungary. hell, both of them have respective dubs in TADC. I just cannot comprehend what led to the current state of Romanian in media.
