You actually don’t even need the quote. The image of Ben taking off the helmet and that light practically bouncing off his face kinda tells you what’s up. It also reminds me of his last shot in TLJ—kneeling with the stream of light reaching out to him from behind.

Seriously! There’s been so much foreshadowing and purposeful use of imagery and the interplay of light and shadow, I would be absolutely blindsided if all of this beautiful and meticulously-crafted storytelling so far doesn’t end in redemption. What a waste.

Think of TFA: The clearly purposeful interplay of dark and light, visually playing out the conflict on Kylo’s face that he was feeling internally. While Han was speaking to him, telling him they missed him and asking him to come back, his face was bathed in light. But then, the light shining in above them begins to fade - Kylo steps back, and his face falls back into shadow in the moments immediately before he ignites the saber and kills Han. 

Then, think of the light/dark imagery around our last view of Kylo in TLJ - The beams of light reaching him from the window to bathe him in sun.

Kylo Ren’s redemption has been spoiled since the beginning.

I wouldn’t even say “spoiled”, not for the general audience, people who haven’t picked up on all the symbolism and foreshadowing, or those who just close their eyes and minds to the blatant possibility cuz they don’t want it. But for anyone paying real attention, and don’t have any off-the-wall ideas about what’s being done in the ST, Ben Solo’s arc is clearly a redemption story.

As a trans person who has shopped for both mens and womens clothes, I can confirm that womens clothes are A LOT more expensive than mens - and women are expected to buy more as well. I don’t mean that women are expected to love shopping and want loads of outfits (although that expectation certainly contributes), I mean that womens shirts are sheer and they are expected to wear stuff underneath them, while mens shirts are opaque. Womens tops are flimsy so they have to wear cardigans or jumpers, mens tops are thicker and they can get away without. Womens clothes don’t have pockets so they’re forced to buy bags to carry stuff.

There is only one single exception to this that I can found. And that is underwear. I don’t mean lingerie like the Victoria’s Secret stuff above, I mean basic knickers vs basic boxers. A multipack of 7 knickers from Primark costs about £4. A multipack of 3 boxers from Primark costs £7. That is literally the only exception that I’ve found.

Of course, considering that a lot of women also wear bras that tiny concession ceases to be a factor once you add in the cost of a bra. Even a basic Primark one costs about £6 for one. That basic bras aren’t supportive, comfortable, long lasting, or anything else you need from a bra.

So yeah, men might pay a lot for their clothes. But women pay a lot more.

Stop-Motion Moana

“We can rebuild her… We have the technology… We know the way!”

A few months ago I ripped apart a Moana doll and made it into a stop-motion puppet using a kinetic armature kit.  

The walk cycle above was the first thing I animated with this puppet, and was just a throw-away practice test with no green screen. I had never done a walk cycle in stop-motion before and soon discovered how difficult animating a straight-ahead cycle within a localized space with no retakes could be.

I showed the cycle to my dad while he was holding my Moana puppet in his hand and he seemed more impressed with this crappy test than the actual animation I did on the movie! I think the combination of him holding the puppet, and then seeing it come to life on the video before him was what blew him away. I guess that’s the appeal and magic of stop-motion. :)

I read that it’s best to have the foot joints nice and tight to hold the weight of the puppet, and have the arms looser.  It’s amazing how much weight those toe and foot ball-joints could hold for the falling poses:

So I’ve used the Parent’s Choice brand wipes and diapers on my son before, they literally melted his skin off. After about 2 minutes after contact, his skin turned red hot and started blistering. We were able to get an emergency visit with his pediatrician, but he still has scars where the wipes and diapers burned him over 2 years later. This brand is AWFUL. How it’s still on the market? I have no fucking clue, but do not EVER EVER EVER gift these to someone with a newborn or small infant. The wipes actually have alcohol in them (I tried using the leftover wipes on my own ass and ended up with a nasty rash).

Err on the side of caution and go with a smaller pack of pampers or huggies, or even get a cheap starter set of cloth diapers (ToysRUs sells a small econo pack for $15), but DO NOT use these diapers. There’s no worse feeling than seeing those scars and knowing you inadvertently caused them by making a careless purchase.
