Hey all
So, I spent the last year on mat leave.
Yes, nearly 8 years after we lost my daughter, I finally had a living child. Said child was the result of literal years of ivf, and was the last of over 20 eggs. For reference, i have been pregnant 7 times. No one expected this one to work. The doctors still don't know why we have struggled so much. My body is fucking wrecked. But we're all here and alive and there is so much joy in that.
Turns out, I am bad at being on mat leave. I measure my self worth by my productivity and given my state, my achievements on leave were "kept baby alive" and that really fucked with my head. I tried painting and then saw the mess and the warning labels on paints and went "nope". I tried embroidery and that worked until my partner asked how we would reconcile having small sharp objects around a crawling baby and then that stopped. So of course I went back to writing.
The only issue here is that you invariably write what you read, and due to exhaustion and sleep deprivation all I was reading was the tropeiest most clichéd reverse harem omegaverse books I could lay my hands on (why? I don't even read ov on ao3. Honestly your guess is as good as mine.)
So that's how it started but it isn't what it remained. I appreciate it's a weird genre, but it's good, I promise.

Haven’t gotten all the way through the article yet, but here’s a good place to start if you want to gauge the potential accuracy of the two studies: The “social contagion” one surveyed 260-something *parents,* while this new study surveyed over 90,000 actual trans youth. The new study has a better design and a MUCH larger sample size, making its results significantly more likely to be accurate.
And to my fellow cis people, please remember not to grow complacent. Media is siding with trans kids, but that doesn’t mean the fight is won yet. The nazis know they’re losing and that means they’re gonna do everything they can to hurt and scare the trans community before their campaign falls apart. They want to put trans kids in death camps. They want to kill cis leftists. They want to create an ethnostate. Until GNC folks in the US are in a position that could be reasonably called safe, we need to keep fighting. This won’t go away on its own. This isn’t about “feeding the trolls”. It’s about preventing another Holocaust. America may not learn from its mistakes, but we can. Love, support, and fight alongside trans folks in every way you can. It’s time to step up or shut up.

okay so i actually read the paper and i really recommend doing so before you reblog it but here are the main points:
this study was conducted using data from a much broader census of american youth
they were primarily looking at the ratio of AMAB to AFAB trans people, since a lot of gender critical people claim that ‘young girls’ are uniquely vulnerable to ROGD and social contagion (gross)
it turns out, though, that there are still more AMAB trans people than AFAB! the ratio was about 1.5:1 in 2017 and 1.2:1 in 2019, so the proportion is shifting, but the moral panic about young women abandoning womanhood due to peer pressure is… demonstrably false
trans adolescents reported higher rates of bullying and suicide than their cis counterparts, INCLUDING cisgender sexual minority youth, so the argument that trans people are just gay and transition to become ‘straight’ is officially disproven (this is my personal least fave transphobic talking point, it just gets my blood boiling for some reason)
also a ‘substantial’ percentage of trans participants described their sexual orientation as non-straight so can we finally put that argument to rest :)
they then conclude that, due to the rates of bullying and mental health issues, it is unlikely that trans people are simply transitioning because it’s ‘trendy’ or they feel pressured to by their friends
so, yeah, the vast majority of this article will have most trans people shrugging and going ‘yeah we know’, but having an academic source to point to is hugely important, and it’s nice to see the findings being reported in the news as well
I do a series on Tiktok/Reels called “Good Trans News” the whole idea was to try and give other trans people a reprieve from the constant barrage of bad news and try to provide hope by showcasing positive news that affects trans people.

I once dated a rich guy and if I said “Hey it’s illegal to drink on the street” he’d respond with “Nah, it just costs £150″, or “You can’t park here!” “Yeh I can it costs £35″ like… literally… that’s how he saw fines, it was just how much you paid to do the thing.
Reminds me of the double red lines in London. They exist because rich people kept parking on double yellow lines (which mean “no parking” in the UK) and then just paying the fines. So London started putting double red lines on major roads. If you park on double red lines, they don’t give you a ticket. They tow your car away and crush it.

ICYMI, there was fear that companies were scraping public AO3 fics to train their AI without the consent of AO3 or its users. That fear has been confirmed.
AO3 has written about what they’re doing (and what they’re not able to do), and they recommend restricting your work to AO3 registered users only. [Instructions here]
This gross misuse of the archive by techbros is why I’ve locked down my fics for the foreseeable future. I recommend the rest of you do the same.

That is is, trained on pirated media. This is even more piquant given my day job involves me working with an AI security engine, but I have trained that in house so I KNOW where its data comes from.
