Y’ever read something and have understanding that has eluded you interminably suddenly stop, curl up, and snuggle neatly into a fold in your brain because a new way way opened to it?
I've seen this passed around a few times, and I have one thing to say:
It's online. The book was carefully and wonderfully recreated online by hand. You can find it here. The entire book is this easy.

THE LOVERS Trailer by Studio Heartbreak
An animated thriller about the romantic tension between a seafood chef and a siren, set in a dark fantasy Philippines
i found the weirdest yt channel like its not even really weird but im just???
but anyway some girl has spend years animating a show with her furry ocs set in a western universe with hints of?? native american and aztec mythology as well as like bits of others but not really cause theres a rabbit who wears a fuckin sailor outfit and i cant follow the plot at all and theres a crane called ichabod bc subtle
its fucking me up bc theres so much effort in it but its so haphazard
i actually love this
Okay, but for this to be animated by one person is fucking AMAZING because we have indie animated projects started and shattered by full teams that don’t even have this much flow.
Youtube is weird because sometimes you find amazing art projects buried in it’s annuals that defy explanation due to their quality and the fact they never went viral.
To watch
i’ve been binging this and i’m on episode 24 and really i find the story pretty interesting and not really that difficult to follow??? my only concern is how all the human children except for like Charles inexplicably look like full-grown adults instead of like actual children
I’ve been a fan of No Evil for a little over a year, and I really can’t recommend it enough! Episodes 1-9 are mostly just animation tests and shorts to get an idea of the characters (though episode 2 and 7 are important to understand the backstory and episode 8 and 9 set up two major conflicts throughout the rest of the series).
There’s a lot of exposition in episode 10 which can be hard to follow on a first watch but is really rewarding when you go back to re-watch everything. Also, the animation is freakin gorgeous now and then, just
SHAPESHIFTING
MAGIC
BEAUTIFUL CHARACTERS
FULLY ANIMATED ASL
PERFECT REACTION GIFS
Also they arrange and record a lot of the music in the show all on their own which is frankly amazing https://youtu.be/L6SZgUVTb4Q
I am so glad this showed up on my feed! I have been following No Evil for about over a year now I think and it’s great. Something not mentioned above is that the singing is amazing! There’s even certain magic based on music and if you watched the movie 1917 and remember that one song that really hit you hard. Okay well that song is also seen in this except imo it’s better cause it’s mixed with a different song. I know I’m being vague, but it’s really one of those things you just gotta watch. Please do check it out!!
I want to point out that her channel has made the most comprehensive way of learning addition and multiplication as it was done by the Mayans. Like this isn’t some poorly researched yet really expensive Hollywood movie that somehow is still inaccurate. The characters use that system and use it correctly. Here’s that video https://youtu.be/6GWeIjw8KxM
Secondly because No Evil is just that amazing there is a whole sequence where Calamity, in our main character takes about how scientist discovered helium and it is so incredible to see her point of view of it. https://youtu.be/gObQx4reGTw
There’s also a really cute video where we get to see see how they take care of Jakalope (which are real in this universe!) https://youtu.be/DjqtvpLJTNM
The whole laymans interpretation of Ancient god kings even were is sort of off, right? Like, ok, first you mostly get it from polytheistic cultures. If one had power over somthing, it was a niche. You don't make offerings to the goddess of the hearth for a bit more rain. You have you pantheon which people focus on what benefits them most. If you're sufficently rich, you have your shelf representing all of them.
The king - or whatever the local term is - wants to be represented on that shelf. There are things the king wants to be acknowledgment as the authority on - not everything, but some of it. How much acknowledgment is based on competition - not with the gods, but with other kings. If the pharaoh or emperor is to be worshiped, it's because all local human opposition has been dealt with. It's because there is nobody more powerful to compare to.
Monotheists don't have that same feature in their rulers. There is no shelf of peers to add them to - so either you have a conflict because there is no shelf, or you have the mandate of The god. The king
Salt of the Earth (1954), dir. Herbert J. Biberman
Damn, son.
EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH SALT OF THE EARTH
Salt of the Earth actually has a crazy interesting history- OP already said it was made in 1954, but that was in the middle of the Red Scare (communism scary cold war hysteria)
Congress’s anti-communism target fell hard on Hollywood, and those in the industry who were suspected of communism at all were blacklisted from all jobs, because studio’s didn’t want to face backlash from Congress
Salt of the Earth was made nearly 100% with blacklisted crew members from Hollywood, and had such difficulty finding actors that they hired local citizens and miners from the actual strike the plot is based on. There were only 5 trained actors involved, and one of them (Rosaura Revueltas, the woman in the gif) was deported to Mexico before they finished filming on accusations of communism, with no proof and no substance. The filming was plagued with police harassment and threats (according to my professor they were shot at more than once), and the local union hall was burned down.
The movie itself not only covers a real 1950′s labor strike demanding safer and more equal labor conditions for Mexican-American employees, but after the miners were facing arrest, their wives and children took up the strike in their place. The movie’s combination of blacklisted crew, civil rights and feminist message, and pro-union plot (during the red scare) got the movie blacklisted and only 12 theaters in the entire United States would show the movie- it was successful in Europe, but didn’t actually achieve viewership in the US until the 60′s

Souls are constructs of morality When a thing has a soul you are encouraged to apply your rules of morality to it When a thing doesn't have a soul, morality has no special bearing Ethics is a similar set of systems, but supposedly without a definition of a soul.
I forgot this happened
The Right Trousers (1995)
British comedian Lenny Henry decided that a live action Wallace and Gromit Christmas special (The Right Trousers) would be a great idea. He also decided to play both Wallace and Gromit himself.
He stayed true to the source material but the end result was really disturbing. It received a backlash from viewers for being creepy (even though it was unintentional) and was never re-broadcast.

For some time now it has been fashionable to diagnose dead famous people with mental illnesses we never knew they had when they were alive.
imagine believing in the power of music to heal but the way your music heals specifically is enraging people back into their faculties
Anyone else ever play the ‘Petz’ game Oddballz growing up? I’m sure the critters in it would be considered ugly or uncanny now, but I still have a soft spot for them- Especially this one, Quadrupus, who’s essentially a kind of backwards-animal alien that looks (fractionally, if you squint) a bit like a cat.
So here’s a sketch set commissioned by @sudrien of someone attempting to cosplay as quadrupus using their back-bending skills! The Quadrupus appreciates the effort and offers their best attempt at being a people. cx
Illustration commission for @sudrien of his amazing idea for a dress for Jade Harley based off of Avogadro’s number! Brilliant Idea, and I had so much fun going through so many designs before we both were happy with this final one~
