@sugarmoonflower-blog
Alright everyone.
We're M O V I N G now.
Come find us at @sugarmoon-posts.
Bye-bye, sugarmoonflower. We'll miss you.
Important notice
Hello everyone.
This is sugarmoonflower, this means both of us typing here. We have bad news.
Recently, somebody thought it was funny to hack the email adress linked to this tumblr account, resulting in both of us being locked out of the email.
With the email long forgotten, it's only a matter of time until we loose access to our account for good.
We want to notify you that we are taking steps to create a new account currently, and we will be moving over to there.
This does not only affect sugarmoonflower, it also affects the sideblog ran by ria:
@ridiculousinaction
This sideblog will cease to exist and be re-opened as soon as we have the new account.
Sugarmoonflower will go out of service and we weill run a new account under a new name.
The request for a sideblog-name for Sarah still stands though, so keep those up.
Anyways, we will inform you when it's time for us to log out on the phone and say bye-bye to sugarmoonflower.
We'll keep you updated!
See y'all when it's time to say bye-bye!
*sighs* Hello, everyone. The smart one aka Sarah here. I might be in need of help. After being bombarded by RIA with the request to make a sideblog, I decided that it's time to create my own. Sideblogs for both of us are a smart choice to avoid me having to use sugarmoonflower to actually create my own personal content. Also, I'll finally have my own blog she won't mess with. We have an 'don't touch the other's sideblogs'-agreement, so I'd finally have my own place to vent about Ria's weirdness without her being able to intercept without violating our agreement. Now, the problem is... I can't come up with any nice, special and suitable name for this sideblog of mine, which is why I'm posting this. Somebody, please make a suggestion in our ask-box, in a reblog or comment. Thanks! ~Sarah
“Particularly damning is what today’s repeal will mean for marginalized groups, like communities of color, that rely on platforms like the internet to communicate, because traditional outlets do not consider their issues or concerns, worthy of any coverage. It was through social media that the world first heard about Ferguson, Missouri, because legacy news outlets did not consider it important until the hashtag started trending.” - Mignon Clyburn, FCC Commissioner for Net Neutrality
Today the FCC voted 3-2 to kill the net neutrality rules you helped pass back in 2015
Let’s not kid ourselves: This is a major setback in our fight for a free and open internet. But It’s not the end. Not for us, and we hope not for you.
Net neutrality is too important to be subject to the whims of any administration. We need legislative action.
Go to Battle For The Net to get connected directly to your Senators or Representatives. If we work together, we can get it done. Again!
Here’s more from Commissioner Clyburn this morning:
I am optimistic, that we will look back on today’s vote as an aberration, a temporary deviation from the bipartisan path, that has served us so well. I don’t know whether this plan will be vacated by a court, reversed by Congress, or overturned by a future Commission. But I do believe that its days are numbered. (Verge)
Wait so they’re killing it?
… oh god, let’s get out the big guns.
Ria DON'T YOU DARE KILL SOMEONE OVER NET NEUTRALITY. Geez. ~Sarah

Humans Are Weird
So there has been a bit of “what if humans were the weird ones?” going around tumblr at the moment and Earth Day got me thinking. Earth is a wonky place, the axis tilts, the orbit wobbles, and the ground spews molten rock for goodness sakes. What if what makes humans weird is just our capacity to survive? What if all the other life bearing planets are these mild, Mediterranean climates with no seasons, no tectonic plates, and no intense weather?
What if several species (including humans) land on a world and the humans are all “SCORE! Earth like world! Let’s get exploring before we get out competed!” And the planet starts offing the other aliens right and left, electric storms, hypothermia, tornadoes and the humans are just … there… counting seconds between flashes, having snowball fights, and just surviving.
To paraphrase one of my favorite bits of a ‘humans are awesome’ fiction megapost: “you don’t know you’re from a Death World until you leave it.” For a ton of reasons, I really like the idea of Earth being Space Australia.
Earth being Space Australia Words cannot express how much I love these posts
Alien: “I’m sorry, what did you just say your comfortable temperature range is?”
Human: “Honestly we can tolerate anywhere from -40 to 50 Celcius, but we prefer the 0 to 30 range.”
Alien: “……. I’m sorry, did you just list temperatures below freezing?”
Human: “Yeah, but most of us prefer to throw on scarves or jackets at those temperatures it can be a bit nippy.”
Other human: “Nah mate, I knew this guy in college who refused to wear anything past his knees and elbows until it was -20 at least.”
Human: “Heh. Yeah everybody knows someone like that.”
Alien: “……. And did you also say 50 Celcius? As in, half way to boiling?”
Human: “Eugh. Yes. It sucks, we sweat everywhere, and god help you if you touch a seatbelt buckle, but yes.”
Alien: “……. We’ve got like 50 uninhabitable planets we think you might enjoy.”
“You’re telling me that you have… settlements. On islands with active volcanism?” “Well, yeah. I’m not about to tell Iceland and Hawaii how to live their lives. Actually, it’s kind of a tourist attraction.” “What, the molten rock?” “Well, yeah! It’s not every day you see a mountain spew out liquid rocks! The best one is Yellowstone, though. All these hot springs and geysers from the supervolcano–” “You ACTIVELY SEEK OUT ACTIVE SUPERVOLCANOES?” “Shit, man, we swim in the groundwater near them.”
Sounds like the “Damned” trilogy by Alan Dean Foster.
“And you say the poles of your world would get as low as negative one hundred with wind chill?”
“Yup, with blizzards you cant see through every other day just about.”
“Amazing! when did you manage to send drones that could survive such temperatures?”
“… well, actually…”
“… what?”
“…we kinda……. sent……….. people…..”
“…”
“…”
“…what?”
“we sent-”
“no yeah I heard you I just- what? You sent… HUMANS… to a place one hundred degrees below freezing?”
“y-yeah”
“and they didn’t… die?”
“Well the first few did”
“PEOPLE DIED OF THE COLD AND YOUR SOLUTION WAS TO SEND MORE PEOPLE???!?!?!?”
My new favorite Humans are Weird quote
“PEOPLE DIED OF THE COLD AND YOUR SOLUTION WAS TO SEND MORE PEOPLE?”
aka The History of Russia
aka Arctic Exploration
aka The History of Alaska
‘But surely you have records of volcanic activity doing tremendous damage to human settlements.’
‘Yep. Pompeii is legendary. Entire cities went. Towns buried under lava, peoples’ brains boiled in the first rush of heat, loads more killed by falling pumice.’
‘ah, good, they learned their lesson and didn’t build there again.’
‘…well…’
‘Are you seriously telling me this volcano is legendary for killing several urban conurbations and you built on top of it AGAIN?’
‘In our defence it hasn’t actually done it since.’
‘What about earthquake-prone areas? Tell me you’re at least vaguely sensible about those.’
‘Oh yeah. After the first major earthquake that flattens a city, we build them better.’
I live on both Earth Australia and Sace Australia.
alien: people died of the cold and your solution was to send more people

Aliens and monsters fascinated by humans will never stop being a thing for me
These are my favorite posts.
Alien - Ok, so tell me about war.
Human - Ok - lists everything from the 300 Spartans to possible WW3 -
Alien - So who are these people fighting in a square and a caged circle?
Human - Those are sports fighters.
Alien - You fight each other for fun?
Human - Yes.
Alien - WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THESE WARS!? THAT WOULD EXPLAIN IT!
Human - Well there’s the geneva convention. - explains what it is -
Alien - YOU BANNED WEAPONS OF WAR BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO EFFECTIVE!?
Human - It’s like cheating.
Alien - AT WAR!?!? WHERE YOU ACTIVE GOAL IS TO KILL EACH OTHER!? YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT CHEATING!?
Human -…………………..
Alien - What?
Human - Nothing.
Alien - No, what? There’s something else isn’t there?
Human - Nukes are not technically banned under the convention.
Human: All this celebration needs is some booze
Alien: some what now?
Human: Booze. Alcoholic drinks.
Alien: What is alcohol?
Human: Ethanol. C2H6O
Alien: wait, isn’t that the stuff your people use as disinfectant?
Human: yup.
Alien: and a fuel additive?
Human: yup.
Alien: Isn’t that a poison!?
Human: well yeah, but it’s watered down when we drink it.
Alien: !?
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SHIT
So what about the fact that humans can take so much abuse to the body and miraculously survive
Alien: So let me just review: You have records of people surviving fatal wounds commonly…
Human: Uh-huh.
Alien: And some of these stories include stab wounds to the brain…
Human: Oh, yeah, all the time.
Alien:….and then…surviving and even improving from crippling injuries or brain damage…
Human: Those are some of the truly strong ones, that.
Alien: Yes…indeed…………………………………………………
Human: What? What is it?
Alien: It’s just…..well………we had heard….rumors….
Human: Of?
Alien: It’s nothing. They’re false, they must be! Humans coming back from the dead–it’s funny really!
Human: o-o……………..
Alien: You must be joking.
Human: UM………WELL…….
Alien: TELL ME YOU’RE JOKING. PLEASE.
Human: *patting the alien sympathetically* I’m…sorry?
Alien: *slams head on table. Done*
This is the best thing in the entire world
“okay, explain ‘pets’”
“easy! See these animals? We bring them inside and feed them, we leave larger ones in much bigger areas or really bug cages”
“wait wait wait, you’re telling me that you keep animals that can kill you in the same building as you?”
“not ALL of them can kill us”
“which ones cant?”
“uhhhh… Now that i think about it…. Goldfish?”
“so one of the other species on this planet out of all of them that you keep as pets and give them ridiculous names is incapable of murder?”
“yea seems about right, have you met my monkey sir flufflebottomsworth the 8th?”
“…… Okay, im leaving this planet”
Oooh. I wonder what would happen if those aliens meet the abomination of Ria- ~Sarah

Guide: Naming a Town or City
There are many things to keep in mind when naming the town or city in your novel:
1) Genre/Theme/Tone
It’s very important to consider the genre and theme of your story when choosing a town name. Take these names for example, each of which indicates the genre or theme of the story: King’s Landing (sounds fantastical) Cloud City (sounds futuristic) Silent Hill (sounds scary) Sweet Valley (sounds happy and upbeat) Bikini Bottom (sounds funny) Radiator Springs (sounds car-related) Halloween Town (sounds Halloween-related) Storybrooke (sounds fairytale-related) 2) Time/Place It’s also important to consider the time and place where your story takes place. For example, you wouldn’t use “Vista Gulch” as a name for a town in Victorian England. You probably wouldn’t use it for a town in modern day North Carolina, either. Vista is a Spanish word and would normally be found in places where Spanish names are common, like Spain, Central and South America, the southwest United States (including southern California), Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Florida. 3) Size/Settlement Type An isolated town of 300 people probably won’t be Valley City, but a sprawling metropolis of 30 million could be called Windyville, because it could have started out as a small town and grew into a large city. 4) Geography Words like gulch, butte, and bayou tend to be regional terms. You probably wouldn’t find Berle’s Bayou in Idaho, or Windy Butte in Rhode Island. Words like mount, cape, and valley are dependent upon terrain. Most of the time, you won’t have a town named “mount” something unless there are hills or mountains nearby. You wouldn’t use “cape” unless the town was on a cape, which requires a large body of water. 5) History Is there a historical person or event that your town might be named after? The Simpsons’ hometown of Springfield is ironically named after its founder, Jebediah Springfield. Chattanooga, Tennessee is named after the Cherokee town that was there first. Nargothrond, in The Lord of the Rings, is an Elvish town with an Elvish name. 6) Combination of Words
person name + geographical term = Smithfield, Smith Creek
group name + geographical term = Pioneer Valley, Settlers’ Ridge
descriptive word + geographical term = Mystic Falls, Smoky Hill
person name + settlement type = Smithton, Claraville
landmark + settlement type = Bridgton, Beaconville
Word Lists: Types of Settlements
Geographical Features
Place Words
Common Suffixes
Other Descriptors
Try a combination of two words from any of these lists. :)
squid’s laws of fic (not inclusive)
first law: write the fic you wish to see in the world aka goddammit do I have to do everything myself around here
second law: it’s going to be longer than you think. much longer. hahaha so long. why are you crying
third law: the time spent writing is inversely proportional to the amount of smut present, dammit
fourth law: flesh out your secondary characters. make them real people. have them take over. oh god. put them back. somebody please help
fifth law: the time spent researching canon is directly proportional to the amount of time you’ll spend altering your plot. that one person on the internet
sixth law: the time spent researching in general will eclipse the time you spend writing. the nsa agent monitoring your internet search history is curled up in a corner. his boss wants to know if you’re a threat. “I don’t know,” the agent sobs. “I just really don’t know.”
seventh law: at some point, someone will ask what your favorite hobby is. you will feign a heart attack to get away
The amount of truth in this post is mind boggling.
Oh. I'm gonna keep those in mind.

breaking news
THE RUBY KUROSAWA SONG CENTER DROUGHT HAS BEEN BROKEN. WE ARE VICTORIOUS. THE CURSE HAS BEEN LIFTED
Wellp I believe it's undetermined AGAIN. Ugh, aparently not nuff evidence after all.
While she is My Mai Tonight! -Center with Dia, they could still turn us over with being a Maru Center (it is very, very unlikely though.)
So back at finding another song that's a rubycenter... *sigh* ~Sarah
the origin of keith’s hippos?
ok y’all so I watched this movie called Okja today (No big spoilers below don’t worry). The only reason I heard about it was because it’s by one of my fav directors, Bong Joon-ho, who also directed Snowpiercer (that movie about the train endlessly going around the inhospitable icy world which contains all the human survivors and has become a oligarchical hell, and Chris Evans is in it).
anyway, the movie starts off in Korea with a Korean girl named Mija taking care of her “super pig” Okja. These super pigs look a lot like hippos. Mija lives in the wilderness in a small house with her grandpa and her parents are dead. You see where I’m going with this. Immediately I’m like “….Keith is that you”
like, it’s a super pig, but it’s basically a hippo, and she’s super cute & Mija loves her
and so I’m thinkin about Keith and hippos and THEN who does appear on the screen but STEVEN FUCKIN YEUN HIMSELF (in a balaclava for a while but cmon i watched every season of The Walking Dead up until Glenn’s untimely demise, i’d know that face anywhere)
so, yeah, Steven Yeun aka Keith’s voice is in this movie about a girl and her basically-hippo and man oh man is it great, he’s great & why yes he does pet the hippo, and why yes i did screenshot it
and it says [in english] because he also speaks Korean & acts as translator for Mija
he really takes the translating seriously. really. (it says “translations are sacred”)
his character is also just. really cute and great, he gets excited about everything and is a pacifist but also a badass who can put people in a non-lethal chokehold (and he does in the movie, and immediately apologizes for it and pats the unconscious person awkwardly)
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention his character’s name.
BECAUSE OF COURSE IT IS, STEVEN
tldr; go watch okja and cry with me about steven yeun’s perfection and keith’s love of hippos
So cool. Omg. ~Ria
