The travel was long and the nights were cold
We swerved and sputtered down many empty roads
From Florida to Louisiana all seemed well
Until the driver side tire buckled and fell
Straight to the ground on an off ramp pass
Hub assembly shot, and clean out of gas
Some roadside mechanics got us fixed up
Five hundred dollars, and an empty financial cup
Off we go to the great state of Texas
Hoping any curses we had have left us
From truck stop to gas station we hanged a sign
"Family needs Fuel" and wait for some time
A couple gallons here and a tank full there
We made it to Dallas by the strand of a hair
A couple days, laundry, conversation, and food
Assist with shopping and clean up as not to be rude
Back in the RV we head on further West
From Texas to New Mexico, riding on fumes at best
Then into Colorado, our destination found
We cross the state line and sleep at the very first open town
Halfway through the night I didn't feel at ease
So I grabbed up my belongings and headed for the tree's
A peaceful couple hours rest, then I feel revived
A call on my phone, "Are you still up for the ride?"
Against my better judgement, I hop back on board
Aggression and Bad Karma I knew would be in store
I stay quiet in my corner, keeping to myself
Finding more as we go along, This is bad for my mental health
We race to get to Denver before Valentines is through
There's a special someone I have to see, This feeling burning true
We stop at a store, a single rose and card all I can scrounge
I await each text hoping the next is her coming on her way down
But that isn't what happened, other circumstances took their place
So patiently I go to sleep hoping to awaken to her face
We head towards a WalMart we've been told will let us park the night
Just three miles away, we hear a clank, and then a pop and shift right
Driveshaft fell, the main u-joint broken completely in two
With nowhere to go, the animal hospital is as far as we can pursue
With the RV broken, in this lot, not a clue or a tool
A phone call to a local church to ask what we should do
A great man answers and says that he can get our ride repaired
as soon as church is over, he'll be on his way to there
In freezing rain, and gusty winds, he gets us moving again
God bless that wonderful man for the hand he did so freely lend
The next day is the same, plans got lost, the rose wilted and died
The card spilled on, bent and crumbled, I toss it off to the side
Out of propane, out of funds, the night was brutally cold
Within a gas station I lay my head and wonder what more has yet to unfold
A graceful gift, my mom and brother come through, in the morning we get heat
A hot breakfast warms my stomach, some foods are just too good to just eat
I savour each bite and embrace its flavour, it resonates through my core
Feeling alive again, I grab my sign, I'll get us some gas for sure
Surely I do, we head down south, just a little further from the storm
But not a huge jump, just a few miles, but we heed to what others warn
Colorado Springs, a beautiful town, with people who care and share
Glistening streams, snow capped mountains, smiles accompany every stare
I find a place to stay and begin to build myself a new life
Free of the tension of the RV that could be cut with the dullest knife
I'm grateful for the ride though it would've been faster and cheaper on my own
But at least for a few days that camper seamed to take the mobile out of home
I'm meeting new people and making new friends who likewise have big goals
I'm sure there's a lot left of this story that has yet to be told
And those who know me know I choose to live the way I live
Those who I hold in my heart know I freely give all that I can give
I appreciate every one of you who have helped me on my way
I look forward to repaying the favours sometime soon some day
Work is looking up, The sun is shining, a sweater all that's required
Perhaps it's the change in the weather that has left me feeling so inspired
As for the girl, who's to know, I feel no longer that she's the one
However not to say that my love story is over, it just hasn't yet begun
I still have many stories, great people I've encountered on my travels
So await next time this wild child's path changes, and another adventure unravels
