Disabled and neurodivergent employees are just as smart, capable, competent, innovative, creative, hardworking, etc. as our non-disabled colleagues.
We should NEVER be seen as- or made to feel like- a burden, a liability, a safety concern, incapable, incompetent, lazy, untrustworthy, extra work to accommodate, their accommodations are “special treatment” and “unfair to other employees”, etc.
We also deserve to be listened to and believed like the adults we are and shouldn’t be made to jump through hoops and fill out a whole bunch of paperwork and get doctors’ notes for management to determine if we’re actually disabled enough to qualify for even the simplest and most basic of accommodations only to need to go through the process again periodically or when new leadership takes over, even when the condition is permanent and stable.
We deserve to be treated with dignity and respect by both management and colleagues alike.
We deserve to be recognized for our contributions and successes and to be seen as valued members of the team.
