In relation to Andy Serkis having a stupid opinion and racists agreeing with him, you know what I haven't seen the racist lotr fans say?
I've never seen any of them make passionately worded rants about how its terribly inaccurate that the movies were filmed in New Zealand & various concept art/worldbuilding took direct influence from Māori culture. I've never seen them say Tolkien was wrong to have included tobacco or potatoes or tomatoes or corn in his worlds because it takes heavy influence from a Medieval Europe. I've never seen any of them say that it was wrong for the Wainriders or Haradrim take cultural influence from Eastern & MENA cultures, and say they only have dark skin because they were out in the sun, and there's only White people in Middle Earth.
The truth is that White, racist lotr fans are fine with seeing nonwhite ppl in LOTR. as long as they're exclusively playing the nameless enemies and orcs. And they don't care about cultural/ethnic/historical accuracy: nonwhite, non-western influence can be used for a White coded fictional world, so long as we don't see any people from the cultures they came from. Funny how that works.
I need to process it because I literally JUST saw it but I think a couple of the things that made the odyssey kind of not land for me emotionally are that Nolan as always just can’t write women that well and Odysseus didn’t have interiority. I liked Penelope but her beat at the end of the day was “I want Odysseus” and that would still work if, on the flip side, Odysseus was equally yearning so their stories were equally about each other. Does he yearn for Penelope? Does he love Eurylochus? Does it hurt when his men say they want to cast him off, do they repair that betrayal when he chooses to save them from Cersei anyway? Idk we breeze past these emotional beats. He’s always doing some shit because he thinks it’s the right thing to do. Greek heroes should be pathetic yearners
so I just watched the odyssey movie....
and I made this within 5 minutes of returning. so I think that sums up my thoughts on it. (though im willing to rant more if ppl want it. cause I have COMPLAINTS)
in hindsight the telltale GOT didn't do so bad Actually (tm)

Don't wait to live until you retire.
Take your PTO. Don't work at all during it. Don't even check your email. Spend that time with your friends, family, and loved ones.
You don't know how short that time might be. Don't let work steal those moments from you.
actUALLLYY i am a Little bummed out that veilguard didn't do better :///
i'm back in the saddle again!
And you know what? Even if the guy with all the money should change his heart *right this minute* and donate billions to a cause as good as world hunger:
...Nonetheless, whether he does or not... he will still die, like all the rest of us, regardless of who may be at his bedside, alone in his head: alone. By himself. No one there to mitigate the pain, to be telling him how important he is, to make what's happening okay in any way whatsoever. He will cross the bar alone. And there is nothing he can do to stop it.
Nothing he can do with the science we have in this day and age will change that. Nothing invented in the next twenty, thirty, *fifty* years, will change that.
Is he a schmuck? Yes. Is he vastly wealthy and powerful (in the in-this-life mode) beyond the dreams of almost all of us? Yeah, sure!
Will it avail him at the moment when, eventually, beyond any ability of his or those he's paid to keep it running, his breath stops? NOPE.
...The comfort associated with this may be a bit on the chilly side. But (leaving aside folks' personal beliefs about what happens on the far side of the Last Breath) all his personal bullshit in the physical world will swiftly come to nothing.
Let's wait our time. I may not see it: but some of you will, and will be able to say, "Well THAT's over, finally."
(sigh)
Okay, that's my annoyance for the day. ...And now who wants some tea?

waaaay back when I was a cashier in retail we would talk about dumb shit while unloading the truck, and we got to the "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse" me and another worker were like yeah we would just die. End it all, we can't fight or run or shit. I refuse to put that much effort into survival.
And my manager was like no!!!! If that happened, I would drive to find you guys in my truck and we could eat stuff from my wife's garden and I would make sure everyone I know survived!! I would carry you all on my shoulders away from the zombies!!
Anyway, random shout out to that guy. You were too kind for retail management, Devin.
