August 2 - International Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day

This date, August 2, is devoted to the Roma Genocide or Porajmos (“the Devouring”), which took place during World War II as a result of the racial purification efforts by Nazi Germany and its Axis Powers allies.

In November of 1935, the Nazi German government amended its Nuremburg Laws, which codified its agenda for racial purity, to officially include the Sinti and Roma community among those labeled as “racially inferior.”

Current estimates place the number of Roma people killed during the Second World War at nearly 500,000. This figure includes tens of thousands murdered by Nazi military and secret police units across the Soviet Union, as well as approximately 3,000  who were exterminated in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau, while others endured forced labor and perished at camps such as Chelmno, Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka.

So we are all in agreement that Terra from Teen Titans is a trans girl right. Like it is the most screamingly obvious case I've ever seen.

like. you're telling me that the lanky runaway in tomboyish clothes who tells bad jokes and is desperate for a home but is too afraid and avoidant to ever stay in one place because she's insecure about her Secret and the damage and unlovability she blames herself for gets her trust issues exploited by a predatory older man with a fixation on her? So there's a scene where Terra, after betraying the rest of the Titans because it's what Slade has ordered her to do, runs away with Beast Boy because he's the one she trusts the most and she doesn't want to lose him even if she has to lose everyone else. When Beast Boy presses her about how worried she seems, Terra asks him repeatedly for reassurance that he would still like her even if he knew that there was some horrible and awful truth about her. When this truth is revealed -- that she's in bed with Slade, because Slade is the only one who has made her feel like she can be a whole person (by training her to control her volatile superpowers) and that Slade made her choose between him and the Titans -- Beast Boy (understandably) reneges on his word that he would still stand by Terra no matter what and runs away from her in anger and disgust. Terra, now having her avoidant and self-destructive tendencies reinforced (they DO all leave her when they find out the truth of who she is, huh) broods in Slade's arms as they retreat into the shadows together. Because, you see, Slade can't "find out the horrible truth" about her because he is the horrible truth about her, which means there's no limit to how close she can get to him while her friends, meanwhile, need to be cut off and hurt.

Which could mean nothing.

Solidarity with Children

this book is out now!!! it's a short read, less than 200 pages, and it's SO good. i literally had to pause halfway through just to send the author a message about how much i liked it. definitely leans more utopian than scientific, but that makes sense given the format, and i think it has a lot of good things to say.

once you really start thinking about how restrictive the world is for children and how many bullshit justifications we retroactively come up for it all the time, you can't stop seeing it everywhere. this book makes a good case for including children in our political efforts not as rhetorical devices but as an actual class of oppressed people.

URGENT DISABLED TRANSFEM COUPLE MUTUAL AID

making a new post because the other lost traction a bit and we still have NO LEADS !!

hi everyone, I'm puppet, a disabled and homeless trans woman, whos been living purely off tumblr donations for a long time, and im now being homeless/couch surfing with my girlfriend, @phantomqueen10001111. we've been staying somewhere for the past couple months, but they are now moving and we only have until the end of august before we are out on the streets of Seattle with no connections or supports.

please, if you live in Seattle or anywhere nearby or know anyone who is or cant and can just share this, please do. please help if you can. we could use a couch to crash or anywhere to stay for any amount of time or if you cant provide that even just friends and connections in the area could help as we arent too knowledgeable about the city.

due to support from some very nice people, if anyone can offer us a place to stay even just a couch we can offer $500 a month for rent, and clean and do chores also!
