[English] April 26th is a very special day: it's the birthday of Lorelai Gilmore, one of our all-time favorite fictional characters. Lorelai and Gilmore Girls as a whole have given us many happy memories and stories, a group of friends with whom to share our passion and a role model to follow, so this year, we (@AllAboutLaurenG, a group of Brazilian fans of the actress Lauren Graham, who plays Lorelai on Gilmore Girls) decided to celebrate the date by sharing a little of our love and gratitude. uring the week of Lorelai's birthday, we will fundraise money to Charity: Water to honor her and to try to make this day a special one for other people too. Why water? Well, many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink — even the water in our toilets is clean! But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world. We started this fundraising campaign to help Charity: Water build these types of projects around the world, and we're looking for anyone who can help, either donating — anything you can give is a huge help — or helping us to spread the word. 100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, Charity: Water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped. —— [Português] 26 de abril é um dia muito especial: é o aniversário da Lorelai Gilmore, uma de nossas personagens favoritas de todos os tempos. Por isso, esse ano nós (@AllAboutLaurenG, um grupo de fãs brasileiros da atriz Lauren Graham, que interpreta Lorelai em Gilmore Girls) decidimos comemorar a data compartilhando um pouco de nosso amor e nossa gratidão. Assim, durante a semana do aniversário da Lorelai, vamos arrecadar dinheiro para a Charity: Water como uma forma de homenageá-la e tentar fazer esse dia especial também para outras pessoas. Por que água? Bem, muitos de nós não têm ideia do que é estar realmente com sede. Temos água mais que suficiente para beber — até a água com que damos descarga é limpa! Mas muitas pessoas ao redor do mundo não têm esse luxo. Todos os dias cerca de 1.400 crianças morrem de doenças causadas por água contaminada e falta de saneamento. Mas isso não precisava acontecer. Existem soluções simples, como a perfuração de poços, a proteção das nascentes e a utilização de filtros BioSand, que ajudam a levar água limpa para comunidades em todo o mundo. A gente está lançando essa campanha para ajudar a Charity: Water a construir esses tipos de projeto e convidamos todos a ajudar, seja fazendo uma doação — qualquer quantia já será uma ajuda enorme — ou nos ajudando a divulgar. 100% do valor doado será usado para construir projetos que levam água limpa para comunidades que não tem acesso a ela e, quando esses projetos estiverem prontos, a Charity: Water vai nos mandar fotos e as coordenadas de GPS para que possamos ver a comunidade que ajudamos. —— @AllAboutLaurenG
Hello my dearest friends!
I’m lining you guys to this because I think its very important. Over the past 16 years Gilmore Girls has given us all so, so much. It has thought me about family, love, community and given me an escape to return to so that I’m never alone. I’ve made life long friends through this fandom, debated and analysed with many! My life has truly been changed forever.
Here, these lovely girls are giving us all the opportunity to give back a little. Just a tiny donation, just one dollar/ euro/ pound whatever. I think its important that we remember how lucky we are to be touched so profoundly by this show, and reminds ourselves to do our best to give back to others in return.
This is all in the blessed name of Lorelai Gilmore people, so let’s make our surrogate mother, best friend and role model proud, and let her and the world know how much she means to us!
