In fact, most of the time, GCs tend to avoid union companies as much as possible unless there are requirements that force their hand and will still employ non-union companies for these projects. The only thing prevailing wage indicates is that depending on what trade your worker is performing, they get paid a particular wage. These wages are typically split into two categories, residential (lower) and building (higher). Also, because prevailing wage jobs are typically higher paid, there tends to be some shady stuff regarding payroll and kickbacks.
