do you mind me asking how did you make the speech bubbles in this set?
Sure no worries! Tutorial is below the cut - hope it makes sense :)
Time for a new Jelly, new good vibes! Good luck everyone, it’s gunna be good soon
when two musicians sing into the same microphone and lean in very close to each other… like omg are you guys gonna kiss now to relieve the homoerotic tension?😳
THIS IS NOT ABOUT ONE DIRECTION I DON’T KNOW WHO THIS “HARRY” PERSON IS GO WATCH BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND CLARENCE CLEMONS KISS ON STAGE RIGHT NOW
op is the only valid person i’ve ever met. everyone else needs to come to the light
Okay, but this is really important: Bruce Springsteen occupied this really weird place in music history. His songs were all from this pessimistic, nihilistic view of an America that had let him down:
Just like the anti-Vietnam War protest songs that we associate with the 1960s, or the early nihilism that spawned punk music in the 1970s. But he didn’t *sound* like a punk anarchist; he sounded like a country rock singer. When he released Born in the U.S.A. people completely misinterpreted (or possibly ignored) the lyrics in favor of the tone of the music.
Politicians used his music to promote their ‘Murica Yes! brand, and he had to literally explain that that was not what he was about. He’s over here asking when we’re going to have jobs and heathcare, not stanning the politicians who weren’t helping the people.
It was also kind of a big deal that he had an integrated band, because even as late as the 1980s music was still kind of segregated and MTV was straight up racist. They refused to play and promote black artists and then claimed that were no black artists in the first place. Michael Jackson’s record company had to threaten a boycott of their white artists to get MTV to play his Thriller video.
Plus, the first black/white interracial kiss on TV was in 1968 (OG Star Trek). Also it took us until the 70s to get sympathetic gay characters on screen, and the 90s to get gay characters to kiss onscreen. And all of those firsts were met with outrage.
So keep that in mind when you see Bruce Springsteen not just playing with an interracial band, but engaging in an interracial, gay kiss on stage repeatedly.
Passages from American Popular Music by Larry Starr and Christopher Waterman
I used to think that Bruce and Clarence kissing onstage was exuberance, showmanship, and telling racist homophobes to fuck off. Like, they picked up a certain kind of audience and went “Racist homophobes? Not in our house!” And started the kissing then but then I actually looked it up and
https://www.gq.com/story/this-fucked-me-up-bruce-springsteen-singing-about-clarence-clemons
It was a story where… we remade the city. We remade the city, shaping it into the kind of place where our friendship and our love for one another wouldn’t have been such an exceptional thing. - Bruce Springsteen
It wasn’t about showmanship or rejecting bigots or anything it was just. Damn right that was one of the loves of his life and damn right he was going to kiss him onstage
It gets me a little that Bruce has had a divorce, that he’s been married twice, but he loved Clarence for the rest of Clarence’s life and will presumably love him the rest of his own
Clemons said in one interview. “Bruce and I looked at each other and didn’t say anything, we just knew. We knew we were the missing links in each other’s lives. He was what I’d been searching for.” In another version of the story, Clemons says “He looked at me, and I looked at him, and we fell in love.”
I’m having some emotions about it!
“He was elemental in my life,“ Springsteen adds, “and losing him was like losing the rain.”
Not just! I love you pure and deep and true but! I am going to love you like that in front of the whole damn world!
We have fewer narratives about taking risks and making statements for platonic love rather than romantic and supposedly it would be easier to downplay this onstage than romance and! They refused! They fucking refused! In front of hundreds of thousands of people, over the course of years! In the spotlight, in word and deed, I love you!
God I’m not okay about it
Now I’m mad that this is not among any of the things I was ever told about this artist.
I knew about this in general (& via all those fabulous photos), but this just adds even more beautiful context <3
Just to add to the pile: this was the cover of Springsteen’s break-through album Born to Run, in 1975:
I mean, will you LOOK at this:
This was the pic chosen for the album cover from an extensive photoshoot, too. A few others:
There’s a lot more online if you search. They’re all pretty amazing. But the photographer is right, the one chosen for the album cover just pops.
Hey tumblr why is this post marked mature?
Wibbly gacha is getting a full refresh of new critters! For those who aren't aware, wibbly gacha is my gachapon/blind bag-style sticker listing, where people purchase any number of stickers, and I stick my hand into the box where I've dumped all of them and pull that number out.
What's a wibbly? What I call these critters in this particular art style—some mythological/cryptid/real animals, some I just made up.
Why's it gacha? Because I don't want to keep track of individual inventory for all 30 designs, and this is less choice paralysis for people. Can you imagine if I had to track them individually?? "ok this dude ordered dragon #5 and dragon #9 and dragon #23" would go crazy. not doing that
Why's it getting refreshed? because I'm tired of the old set of wibblies
anyway here's the shop link. these will go live on may 3 (2025)
I saw this and I thought Tumblr might enjoy it

how to weave subplots into your story without getting tangled in the mess
Subplots: the spicy side quests of your main narrative. They deepen your world, flesh out your characters, and keep things interesting. But if you’ve ever added one and ended up with a story that feels like it’s running in six directions at once… yeah. Let’s fix that.
1. your subplot should serve the main plot
Don’t just throw in a romance arc or a secret sibling reveal because it’s fun (though it is fun). Ask:
- Does this subplot challenge the main character’s goals?
- Does it echo or contrast the main theme?
- Does it change something by the end?
If it’s just a cute side quest with no real impact, it’s fanfic material for your own story. Cool, but maybe not plot-essential.
2. intertwine, don’t parallel
Bad: your subplot exists in a bubble, running beside the plot but never touching it.
Better: your subplot interacts with the main plot. Maybe it complicates things. Maybe it supports the MC in a moment of crisis. Maybe it explodes everything.
Example: your MC is hunting a killer, and the subplot is their failing marriage. Good subplotting means the stress of the hunt affects the marriage, and the marriage affects the hunt.
3. stagger your arcs
Your main plot might hit its midpoint twist at chapter 10. Have a subplot hit a *smaller* emotional beat around chapter 7 or 13. It keeps pacing dynamic and gives your readers something to chew on between big moments.
4. use subplots to develop side characters
Side characters are more than background noise. Give them wants. Give them stakes. Let their stories *collide* with your MC’s. That’s when the magic happens.
5. know when to shut it down
Not every subplot needs a 3-act structure and a dramatic finale. Some are small. Some fade out naturally. Some just shift the perspective enough to reframe the main plot. If you’re tying up subplot #6 with a bow in the epilogue, maybe ask yourself if it really needed to be there.
6. outline the spiderweb
It helps to map out how every subplot connects to the main story. Literally. Draw lines. Make a chaos diagram. It doesn’t have to be neat—just make sure those threads touch.
TL;DR:
Subplots are great. Subplots are juicy. But they’re not decoration—they’re infrastructure. Weave them into the story’s bones or risk writing 3 novels in one.
there are a million more cat pictures online, yet you people reblog these AI cats like they're actually cute. ai cant get to cat pictures! dont let it!
Silk is so beautiful. Thank you worms
u know they boil them alive for silk right
They’re worms…
ok im not gonna argue with a sociopath
Thank god
As I've already said on another post:
A: you don't have to kill them for the silk
B: silk moths spend BASICALLY THEIR WHOLE LIVES AS CATERPILLARS and only wrap themselves in silk after they've lived all their life because
C: when they turn into moths, THEY DO NOT HAVE MOUTHS. this is a very common feature for moths. They turn into moths to have sex and then starve to death.
D: in the wild, maybe thirty out of a hundred eggs survive to be caterpillars. Maybe one out of a hundred survives to become a moth. A moth who has a few days, at most, to live. They have no way to defend themselves. Many die before they even get to mate. Some never find mates. If they don't starve to death, they get eaten by a predator. And this isn't even counting the ones who get eaten in the cocoon by parasitic wasps.
E: the lifecycle of a wild silkworm is to struggle, struggle, maybe get sex, then starve to death.
F: domestic silkworms are literally flightless. They cannot survive in the wild. But we take care of them. Nearly one hundred percent of silkworms survive to metamorphosis- and every single one of them lives a safe, warm, long life, where their favourite food is literally handed to them, where they want for nothing. And even THEN, MORE OF THEM SURVIVE TO BECOME MOTHS THAN THEY DO IN THE WILD. The ones who die do so painlessly, and 100% of them gets used- they're literally edible. They get eaten, like they would in the wild, but infitesimally less painfully because they're already dead when they get eaten. Even the cocoons from the moths who chewed through their silk get used! And the moths? The many more who survive than in the wild? They have gigantic orgies, lay eggs that they know will live the same long, idyllic lives they did, and then die.
The life of a domestic silkworm moth is the kindest, most perfect life they could ever live.
This is like if aliens said "hey you get to eat your favourite food forever, live longer than you ever would, and never be in any danger, and your children and their children and their children will also have this, but when you die peacefully in your sleep after living a full life (because you are ssfe from all diseases also) we get your clothes and also your bodies?" and also imagine YOU DON'T HAVE A CONCEPT OF A SOUL OR BURYING A BODY OR CREMATING A BODY OR DOING ANYTHING WITH A BODY. OR THAT THE BODY OF SOMEONE WHO DIED HAS ANY VALUE TO YOU WHATSOEVER. Assume dead humans like. Just lie there and get eaten by dogs.
Literally, to them, all we get out of this is like... instead of something else eating the bodies, we eat them? It's literally just "hey instead of getting eaten by birds, would you like to have lives sweeter than you could imagine but like. You get eaten by monkeys and also less of you get eaten and you're already dead when they eat you."
If you're going to judge someone for liking the byproduct of a process, maybe educate yourself on the process first.

PLEASE REBLOG
source: The Trevor Project
i think we should be talking about the semi-recent advancements in cystic fibrosis treatment like all the time every day. there hasn’t been a drug like this since AZT medications for HIV infection it is truly fucking miraculous and very important
basically: cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease which makes the mucous a person generates extra sticky. it used to kill people in infancy, then with advancements in medical tech it killed people in young childhood, and until very recently cystic fibrosis patients could expect to live until about thirty years old with consistent painful lung infections and complications.
in 2019 the FDA approved a drug called trikafta (which is really three drugs in one) for cystic fibrosis treatment. what it essentially does is patch up the malfunctioning proteins that cause the extra sticky mucus. trikafta is effective on about 90% of cystic fibrosis patients.
people who had spent their entire lives in and out of hospitals, on and off of ventilators, suffering from pneumonia and sometimes treated through painful procedures like intubation took this drug, got out of bed, coughed up an entire lifetimes worth of mucus out of their lungs over the course of a few hours, breathed clearly for perhaps the first time in their lives, and now go on to live well into their seventies.
like isn’t that insane. isn’t that amazing. doesn’t that give you hope for the future of medical advancements and treatment. fuck. i think about it all the time……
There’s a WHAT.
For WHAT.
i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet

Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.
since this post blew up, i've been wanting to do an addition with all of the recommendations from the comments and tags. but there's a lot of them. some people might be crazy enough to sit down and seriously put them all in one post with descriptions. those people are honestly sick in the head.
anyway, here's all of the recommendations from the reblogs. not all of them are text-based, but it's a great mixture of styles. also don't forget the links in the second paragraph of the OP which will take you to FMHY where there are a bunch more games listed.
