i was going to make a polite post about this and then decided being polite isn't helping me. today, for the second time in two weeks, a total stranger grabbed my wheelchair and moved me without my consent. i'm sure they thought they were helping me, seeing as i was going up inclines both times, but really all the did was violate my space, my boundaries and my autonomy. both times i was too shocked and upset to express my discomfort.

i am going to make this very clear: mobility aids should not be touched.

the fact that i am in a wheelchair does not give you permission to stare at me, or speculate on my ability to walk, and it definitely does not mean you get to touch me. disabled people are perfectly capable of asking for help as and when we need, so chances are, if someone hasn't asked you to help them and you try to anyway, at best you're making them uncomfortable and at worst severely distressed and possibly even injured. my mobility aids are extensions of myself. by touching them without consent, you are touching me without consent.

tl;dr - disabled people don't need you. leave our mobility aids alone.
