Getting pissed off at an author for occasionally using uncommon/long/archaic words is so silly, especially in the modern day where you can easily type that word into a search engine to find it’s meaning. There is a stark difference between a writer leaning into purple prose and a writer with a large vocabulary occasionally utilizing words you have not previously encountered.

I personally love discovering a new word while reading, it’s like receiving a new tool for my toolbox. That is part of the reason I like vintage & classic literature, there are between 200,000-1,000,000 words in the English language and we’ve forgotten some very good words.

I had someone beta read my fic a while ago (bit premature) and for the most part they were helpful, but at one point I used to word perturbed and they said “don’t use fancy words, just say he was freaked out.” Um no, actually, he isn’t freaked out, he is perturbed. That word fits both the definition and the vibe. My smutty fanfic may not be highbrow literature, but I do want it to have a vibe. Something was amiss and the audience should know the character found that somewhat more than concerning but not quite disturbing. He’s not panicking yet, but he’s stewing about it. He’s perturbed.

i think my favorite thing to happen is when i finally get a chance to start writing again and then all my classes decide they want me to try and kill myself so they all assign 8 things due every week and then i have no time to even eat. or anything . and so then i die . and i can’t write.

anyway. my spring break is coming up very soon so i will be putting in my hours to my fic so i can post again. i love yall i’m so sorry for the wait . getting older and more responsible means i have no time for really spending time doing things i enjoy. i have to actively make time. so fake.

now, of course i have a couple pet peeves about smut. bruising of the cervix is a BIG ONE. but most of the time i don’t care if the sex is unrealistic because im indulging in a fantasy. i don’t really care about the refractory period, and most fanfics i read are about monster men so??

no literally. like sometimes i’m like what the hell do they think having vaginal penetrative sex is like….. or even anal sex ……… but also i’m like . it’s erotica/porn. this is this person’s fantasy and that’s okay. this is their escape. sometimes it borders on yikessss bc it’s like leaning into sexist misinterpretations of how sex works but sometimes i’m like that’s a kink i don’t have but that’s okay. bc i’m not writing it. and not all porn is supposed to be realistic !!!! it’s a fantasy!!!!!!!

OOOOOOHH i have thoughts on this.

1) i think of this as similar to those trends where people “meet” the young version of themself, the one that hasn’t gone thru a life altering event that changed them fundamentally as a person. you see the version of you that no longer exists, that no longer can exist, but that you existed as some time ago. knowing you can never go back, there’s no way to go back, and that you envy them endlessly for having the luxury of not having lived everything you’ve gone through yet, it builds a sort of resentment inside. i think red would resent classic for not having to have lived red’s life. he’s part of the group that would say “why me? why was i the one that that happened to?”

2) which brings me to my second point: red would resent classic bc he represents a life that red can never go back to, but also because red was the one that lived his own life. red would fall down the classic eleanor shellstrop (good place mention!) rabbit hole of “that meant she was always capable of change, i just wasn’t worth changing for” type deal. there always existed other universes where red didn’t live through the hellish underground, but red didn’t get to live those. those were saved for other versions. and red was always the one that had to live in mafiafell. and he’d resent classic for not having to live thru mafiafell.

3) he would enjoy having his own company. he would resent classic, internally, despite himself, but he would enjoy having conversations with someone who is, for all intents and purposes, himself. their minds work so similarly, one of them can start a sentence and the other could finish it without missing a beat, almost like he were going to say that exact string of words before the other did. i’ve read a couple slash reader fics where red and classic exist in the same timeline (bc of some fuckup with a machine) and the convenience makes getting the machine back up and running significantly easier. i’ve personally considered writing fics like that!!!! and it’s not off the table for me.

4) red: “huh.”

classic: “‘huh’ yourself.”

red: “i jus did.” and then they laugh together. it’s definitely more of a “i am you. so i get you.” moment. red just can’t ignore the resentment he feels. but he doesn’t mind classic. i get the feeling he’d enjoy the company of horror tale sans slightly more. more of a level playing field. but specifically the horror tale sans from Fur a Good Time, Call… by popatochisp on ao3. love him (i’ll tag the fic, definitely read it!!!!)

joking kind of. i have finally been working on it again. guys i’m so sorry i update so irregularly. genuinely engineering school is ripping me apart slowly.

my classes are just hard. that’s it. they’re just hard as fuck and it takes so long to do my work. and when i’m not doing schoolwork, i’m at my job, which is part time, but it takes up a bit of my week. and if i’m not doing those, i’m working on my other job as a grader for a physics course, and if not all of those things….. i’m probably eating . or like . hanging out. which is not very much time.

i am finding more and more time as i fall into a routine with my courses and balancing responsibilities. and i always hate to have this be the update bc i want to have something to show for being gone for months…. but i do not. there is some stuff written down. but it is not polished and it is not at all the final cut.

i love you guys above all. you are all so incredibly patient with my writing, and to those of you who have stopped reading, i want to thank you for ever spending the time to consume my work, and i absolutely understand not sticking around for (checks watch) TWO YEARS???? like that’s so fair. that’s a long ass time and i have barely posted 3 chapters in the past year. to those of you who are still here, i love you so much and i am so appreciative of your time and support. you guys are all so amazing and kind.
