We are the Pride Knights, and this is our battle cry No enemy can shake us, as hard as they can try Thereâs a fire in our eyes that no hatred can kill A passion in our hearts thatâs as strong as our will To our fellow queers who fight their battles on their own We promise to fight with you, you are never alone To our fellow queers who have fallen with the pain We thank you for your courage, your fight is not in vain
We are defenders of the right to be proud of who you are To love who you love and to accept every scar We are your knights, protectors of our pride Together we stand, together we ride
These are back!Â

In the 1960s, bisexual activists Stephen Donaldson and Martha Shelley were leading gay rights activists, and their bisexuality pissed off the gays!
From Donaldson:
âI took a lot of flak from the leaders of the homophile organizations for being bi. For a couple of years I was having an affair with Martha Shelley, leader of the New York Daughters of Bilitis and later the Gay Liberation Front. As she described it, âWe used to walk into these [homophile movement] meetings arm in arm. It was a scandalâŠbut at the same time, because the two of us were so blatant and out there in the public being pro gay, they certainly couldnât afford to throw us outâ.
[Bisexual Politics, Naomi Tucker, 1995]
they were proudly heterosexual in gay spaces and in front of their gay faces, wow, how brave and courageous of them.
They werenât heterosexual by any stretch of the imagination. During their relationship together they both had same-sex relationships, because they were bisexual, open, and honest with the entire world about being unashamed, while spending lifetimes working hard at gay activism in a world which wanted them dead. Donaldson started the first student gay organisation in the US, later was president of Stop Prisoner Rape, and died in the 90s from AIDS complications. Shelley was in Greenwich Village the night of the Stonewall riots and was a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front and is to this day an activist. Both of their lives were much bigger than that brief description, and, in all honesty, much gayer.
The point is that from the start, bisexuals were a part of the gay rights movement while simultaneously rejected by it. This story is something many bisexual activists today can still relate to.Â
In no way shape or form is any form of âbisexualityâ heterosexual. âProudly heterosexualâ is not something a bisexual person can be.
This post has such great history and Iâm so happy that their stories can be spread and their hard work remembered. With that said, it is also heartbreaking that in life and in death, people still want to equate their whole beings into âlinking arms with a different sex is flaunting heteronormativity. It mocks real gay people.â How did some unlearn the homophobic lie that gay people are more than an action, but not learn it about other queer sexualities? Some would heap erasure onto elders who past, remember them in parts, if not all, simply because in a fever of anger they thought they saw something heteronormative. I fear people donât know what that word even means.

i donât know why anyone has to feel insecure about their bodies, when objectively, humans are all freakish horrors. Every last one of us. Hairless, fleshy, gangly beasts walking upright straight as a tree with bony tentacles on the ends of our limbs.Â
you have a hole in your face full of sharp bones and youâre worried that your belly is a little squishyÂ
broke: all bodies are beautiful!Â
woke: all bodies are made of warm meat wrapped around wet bones with blood-plump organs stuffed inside. radÂ
Actually, your face isnât filled with sharp bones! Bones are derived from the mesoderm, one of three tissue layers in very early embryonic development that diversify into all of the organs in the body. Teeth on the other hand, come from the ectoderm. So congrats! Your face isnât filled with sharp bones- itâs filled with sharp skin! Have fun!
I HATE that
Honestly Iâm a little tired of the abortion discussion centering around child raising and such. Like, if I got pregnant today, and someone offered to adopt the child and pay for my medical bills and everything, I still would have an abortion? You know why? Because I donât want to be pregnant. I donât want to put my body through that for nine months. And I donât want to risk my life in childbirth. Fact is no one will be able to do that for me, so untimately itâs my choice and thatâs all there is to it.Â
I might lose some followers but this is so important to me. Iâm a mother, Iâve been through pregnancy and labor, and friends let me tell you- that shit is HELL. No one should be forced to go through that. Ever. Abortion is a right. Periodt.
Dismemberment is HELL for the fetus. And Iâm sure it doesnât make the pain/sense of privacy invasion from being raped go away.Â
No it isnât. No it literally isnât. First of all, a huge portion of abortions occur before the 10 week markâwell before anything approaching nerve-endings will have developed for the fetus. My abortion was a literal pillâtwo pills, actually, and it induced a miscarriage, because I was under 10 weeks pregnant and the fetus in my uterus was little more than a clump of cells. When it came out, it looked like a tiny little mass of gelatin. It didnât even look recognizably like it had any sort of shape. You donât need an actual surgical procedure until several months into a pregnancy, and even then it will typically be well before the fetus would actually be viable outside the womb, and thereâs no indication that they can feel pain at this stage. They certainly are not aware or sentient in any way. The fetus doesnât know whatâs going on, and has no conception of hell, in terms of pain or anything else.
Abortions where the fetus is past the stage of viability almost never occur unless there is something dreadfully fucking wrong, either with the baby, the mother, or bothâand at that point itâs traumatic enough for the people who wanted the baby but couldnât fucking have it because something went wrong without having to see people yelling at them online for making one of the most heartbreaking choices possible.
Furthermore, having an abortion may not take away the trauma from a rape, but it will prevent a rape-victim from having to give birth to their rapistâs child, which can be incredibly traumatizing even IF nothing goes wrong with the pregnancy or the birth itself. No one should be forced to go through that if they donât want to. Rape victims should never, ever be shamed for the choices they make following that trauma. That is between them and anyone they choose to confide inânot assholes on the internet who will try to explain how it wonât âfixâ their trauma for them, jesus fuck.
how the fuck did the fire nation beat fucking anyone their element can't do shit to any of the others
shoot fire at an airbender? they blow fire back in your face now you got burn face
a waterbender sends a wave at you and you defend with fire? congrats dipshit now you've turned that attack into steam in your eyes at best or boiling water on your skin at worst
you throw fire they throw rock you get hit with hot rock war over
Literally the only way the fire nation fought enemies was with slow technological veachiles (drills and air boats) and fucking AMBUSHING PEOPLE. AND IT WAS MAINLY AMBUSHING CIVILIANS (against the Geneva Convention). The fire nations army is full of war criminals
You think they have the Geneva Convention in ATLA? They donât even have Geneva.Â
Honest question: Why do pop culture references work and get a laugh in things like Shrek, but in others they just come across as just being lame and forced? What makes a pop culture reference work?Â
I think the thing with references in general is that they need to either a) work on their own even if someone DOESNâT understand the source material and/or (preferably and) b) are brief enough that someone who doesnât understand them most likely wonât notice them, instead of stopping the story shut in its tracks for a minute so you can wink at the viewer and say âgeddit? eh? eh?â⊠metaporically speaking.
Example: in Shrek 2, Shrek sees an old poster in Fionaâs old room in the castle.
When I was a kid, I genuinely didnât recognize that this was supposed to be Justin Timberlake, because I wasnât that up on celebrity stuff (and he already wore a full beard at this point). But I still smiled, because even if you DONâT recognize the celeb it still is a solid joke even without that, narrative is still easy to recongize that Fiona as a tween had a crush on some male celebrity, and it ties into character development of Shrek feeling insecure because heâs not human - so it fullfills point a).
And in addition to that: that shot? It lasts for THREE SECONDS. Itâs a quiet scene (except for music), noone makes any mention of that poster, thereâs no dialog or callback or anything. If you donât get it, you miss absolutely nothing. So it fulfills point b) at the same time.
True, and even the longer references (like the scene in Shrek 2 where Fairy Godmother sings âI need a heroâ and you get that whole Godzilla Cookie bit) donât actually impede the story, because thereâs still stuff going on. Most of the time, when a reference falls flat, itâs because the movie stops in its tracks or doesnât advance the plot, which tends to get on the nerves of viewers :P
another example: in Meet The Robinsonâs, when Wilbur says his dad looks like Tom Selleck and weâre given this picture for a fraction of a second among a bunch of pictures of goofy cartoon characters:
now as a kid this was hilarious bc come on, thats not a cartoon character, thats just a man!!! and itâs absurd and only there for a second. and then i learned later that his dad is actually voiced by Tom Selleck and GOD THATS HILARIOUS
pop culture references usually just fall somewhere on a spectrum from âfunnyâ to âobnoxious,â with âboringâ smack dab in the middle
Yâall r wildin OUT
