Sinners ranked by how bad a day they were having when they had their ID photo taken
Hong Lu
Truly, a beautiful day.
Don Quixote
The worst thing to happen to her today was the cameraman telling her that she isn't supposed to smile for this.
Ryoshu
Covered in blood. Not sure whose, but it isn't hers. C.B.M.W.
Outis
She woke up this morning and put on her old uniform, ready to face judgement for her many, many war crimes. It's turned out slightly better than expected.
Rodion
Well she WAS having a good day.
Ishmael
Had very different plans for the day that did not involve getting Shanghaied by a shady corporation. I'd be pretty miffed too.
Meursault
Meursault.
Faust
Silently regretting every single decision in her life that led up to this point, and knowing exactly what she could have done differently. Chat is laughing at her. Chat will never stop laughing at her.
Sinclair
Nobody has kicked this puppy yet, but he knows it's coming. He flinches every time someone raises their leg. It's gonna be soon. Any moment now, someone's gonna kick the puppy. He's at the point of hoping he gets kicked just so they can get it over with.
Heathcliff
Now this dog's been kicked. Many, many times. You think that looking this rough would rank him lower, but he's used to it. Getting the shit kicked out of him is a pretty normal day for Heathcliff.
Yi Sang
The world's saddest, wettest man at his saddest and wettest. Wait a minute, why is he so wet? That could seriously skew the results here.
Gregor
He has not had a good day. In fact, he has never had a good day. That is the face of a man who has given up hope of ever having a good day. Every day you meet him is the single worst day of his life. He aspires to having a day that is merely bad.
random PSA, I know a lot of people use duckduckgo as a Google alternative search engine, but it always kind of annoyed me when I was using it because it felt like No Name Brand Google
I have switched to using Startpage.com and vastly prefer it. for one thing, instead of displaying an "AI summary" at the top of the search results (unless you turn it off, yes I know), it displays the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, with link, whenever it finds one that's relevant.
also a waaayyyyy better sense of design than duckduckgo
also private, European based, least annoying search I've used lately (RIP old "don't be evil" Google)
i have one of those, scraped from multiple different rec posts:
Search Engines
Infinity Search is an alternative search engine with a special focus on privacy

WolframAlpha is a privately owned search engine that allows you to “compute expert-level answers using Wolfram’s breakthrough algorithms, knowledgebase, and AI technology.” A data search engine.

https://search.marginalia.nu/ an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed. Use old-school searching rather than query-based for the best results.
https://www.mojeek.com/
https://wiby.me/ - It’s goal is to index as many personalized websites as possible, and NOT commercial sites.
https://4get.ca/ it works a lot like SearX, but honestly better. It doesn’t have its own index, but pulls from many others. I think it’s the best for research, since it allows you to search for answers from different indexes, is easy to configure, add free, and avoids censorship as much as it can.

limbus company is fun because the story of a book will mostly be adapted faithfully and tgen they'll hit you with "oh btw this character's highschool bully is now leader of a vigilante religious army who believe in the holiness of the flesh & the need to kill anyone with prosthetics, because she saw an alternate universe where she and he were together and that was why so now she hunts for a wish-granting bough BUT also his best friend ascended to (conditional) godhood and he has to kill the now-mutated-beyond-recognition bully to restore balance to the world" and you're just like yes project moon okay project moon
Faust time (Not everything because I wanted to keep it "short" and not overload on Faustism's):
Shoutout to @ omletteblue on Twitter for prompting me brainworms.
Continuing on from this:
Each base sinner EGO (Bar Rodion because fuck her) has some kind of shadow, in a literal sense their psychological shadow, that looms over their portrait.
Isang has his perfect wing(s)
Quixote has a horse skeleton, Rocinante.
Ryoshu has what seems to be fingers?
Meursault has an eye (But that's a discussion for later)
Hongle has Teikan temple (Elders)
Heathcliff has Cathy's grave
Ishmael has an anchor (likely representing the journey in its whole)
Rodion doesn't
Sinclair has the tree of good and evil + snake
Outis has what seems to be a Caduceus (twinned snake symbol)
Gregor has arms, representing his arm.
there are some things to point out when noting these shadows however, or the Base EGO portraits in general.
Heathcliff is the only one to grab the barbed wire, seeing that his canto is the one that breaks the fourth wall, and his awareness of Cathy despite this, this makes sense.
Rodion lacks a shadow completely. I think that until she gets character development she doesn't deserve one though.
Faust is the only sinner to not wear the prisoner garments in her base EGO
Faust is the only sinner to actively cast their shadow in the base EGO
Faust is the only sinner to lack the barbed wire of the base EGO portraits
Faust's is the only base EGO to have definite humanoid shadows (bar Gregor's arms)
Faust. Fishy
Each shadow is something that the sinner does not want to acknowledge, or that is keeping them stagnant/in the past. eg. Rocinante keeping Quixote from moving forward, Cathy causing every Heathcliff pain/drawing him back, Wings.
This begs the question just to tell you the answer, Faust, or the Gesselschaft, is Faust's shadow--Faust is Faust's shadow--quite literally overshadowing the person that is "our" Faust.
Regarding the barbed wire and prisoner garb, that's most likely because of her association with Limbus Company more than anyone else; While she is a sinner, she is not a prisoner to the company any more than she is a prisoner to herself--The one thing that Faust is barred from, in the window behind her, the wholeness or completion (Da'at) within the infinity that is the Mirror, or the engine, her prime invention, is the one thing barred from her in this image.
Holy fuck that's a sentence and then some I am so sorry-
It seems that in Limbus Company, Faust's devil is not Mephistopheles but rather the Gesselchaft itself; This very well may be the case however there is something we need to keep in mind, Faust EGO passive name. Ennui.
Ennui essentially means boredom and dissatisfaction with the world or one's life; In Goethe's Faust, Mephistophilis' deal will end if Faust were to reach a moment of transcendence, should he cease to strive further, he would be dragged to hell.
So, for one who aims to become learned in everything, who aims to gather knowledge beyond anything else, what could a devil show you that finally makes you content, in that singular moment?
The worlds beyond your own? The infinite knowledge of every moment?
[the following section has been cut for brevity and because my god I cannot for the life of me keep things on topic; It was about Calvinism, then a bit about Absurdism, then a bit actually talking about Faust believe it or not!]
This is to say that Faust, despite her lack of wires and uniform, is still, and eternally, trapped, by her knowledge and for her knowledge she must be.
last point about the art I promise:
The fishy. No that was not put as a joke.
remember this fucker from RR1, or from Mirror Dungeon I guess if you aren't old.
This abnormality is named headless Ichthys.
Image 2 is the symbol called an Ichthys
This abnormality is named headless Ichthys.
Image 2 is the symbol called an Ichthy.
Image 3 is what seems to be the same symbol, or something very similar, within Faust's base EGO.
And this is the most used EGO skill in the game...
I have a connection but I don't know if its a good one?
The Ichthys is essentially a symbol of christianity or god as a whole. I feel that I shouldn't need to establish the fact that Faust, and Dr Faustus, have biblical//religious themes, and the fact that Goethe's Faust was in the end redeemed//saved, there is at least some connection here quite possibly.
There is also the potential that it is just a fish, the writing next to the top one seems to say as much
Other thing I found in the art
Ameoba
After the long tangent I don't know what more to say about her fornn ow
