Finding out AI companies are chewing through - literally, they’re pulping and burning them as they go - millions of books often including 1/1s and old texts that cannot be reprinted
Meanwhile there’s always some dipshit telling me AI is the future and we’ve got to just let companies erase human history and literature so they can train their abomination machines to pretend to think like people because a judge said it’s fine
AI companies are buying and scanning printed books for training data, raising copyright and cultural preservation concerns as rare volumes a
the response to "your demographic is full of people who are ugly and weird and undesirable" should not ever be "not true! some of us are in fact hot and normal and desireable." you should stand with weird ugly bitches bc otherwise you're just playing a losing game with bigots.
Wrote a really big post about oppenheimer and avengers civil war being similar movies but i deleted it because the world isn't ready
Its because the narrative fails if the viewer doesn't share the view of being from a powerful country instead of-- *a cia agent shoots me before i can finish it, i am found dead in my room, my mom screams, this destroys my family. The case is revealed leading to a horrible two months where brazil and the us are in a cold war kind of state but brazil settles and apologizes to the us because it knows the usa can kill them all. Two years later the us makes a movie about how the man who murdered me for a tumblr post was REALLY sad about it but he has to live with killing innocent people because thats how poweful countries work and whoever says you shouldn't kill people for othwr countries is wrong. He is like prometheus. He decides that safest hands are our own. It wins an Oscar. I do not show up in the movie in case someone might humanize a non usamerican victim by mistake. My mom is mentioned, but her scene is cut for time. They bring up the possibility that i was a communist and a really old tumblr post to make people question my morality. There are 7 celebrity cameos. Both joe biden and donald trump show up as characters in the movie as well as neymar and lionel messi, who was in the united states at the time, and could possibly have heard about it*
you guys know that us foreign aid peaked at three percent of the federal budget when we were helping europe rebuild after world war ii right. you know that nowadays foreign aid only makes up about one percent of the federal budget right. you also know that the majority of it goes to peacekeeping and humanitarian aid right. and that the biggest receiver of it is ukraine because it's in everyone's best interest to prevent putin from rebuilding the russian empire right. right.

Imagine being Anais Mitchell and writing a song about the rhetoric of fascism so incisive and prescient that 10 years later an actual fascist would use that exact rhetoric down to the highly-specific phrasing in his presidential campaign. But also it took 10 years for the project you wrote that song for to move from living room shows to concept album to theater workshop to off-Broadway to Broadway, and its Broadway debut ended up coinciding with said fascist's successful bid for the presidency, and now it looks like your song that you wrote in 2005 is a super unsubtle reference to that one particular and highly-topical politician.
Frankly if I were her I would have started killing.
it’s so funny that cops will say they ‘do not have enough resources to investigate this case’ and then pull you over in a brand new squad car. you’re getting 40% of the municipal budget and complaining about being underfunded and blaming a lack of training when you accidentally shoot your coworker. you’re decked out head to toe in new state of the art riot gear but you can’t be arsed to use any of your budget on solving crime or making your colleagues better at not killing people.
re-reading the long game, which i didn't do to write my therapy meta, i just read the therapy scenes, and it's like a smack to the face realizing how much ilya's shitty fucking therapist telling him that shane has things unfairly good and doesn't appreciate how much ilya is suffering is the turning point. before that ilya is depressed and lonely and longing for shane, and then it's like his therapist hands him this explanation for all of his pain where it's shane's fault, and from that point on he's seething with resentment and anger. the sadness is replaced with rage. he's angry at shane when shane is the victim of homophobic harassment by the league. he pins shane into a wall when they fight.
like. inadvertently a terrific description of the dangers of therapeutic harm. ilya is carelessly fed this narrative where he is being victimized and that creates even more distance between himself and his loving partner, who, on top of their difficult circumstances, he is already pushing away because of his depression. ilya ends up feeling even more isolated and also nearly commits an act of domestic violence. in context it's really striking. and really sad.
I'm going to *remembers how many times in my life I didn't tell anyone I was suicidal* you know, I'm not going to, but I honestly think even joking about it is better than never talking about it, and I think people who have dealt with such a difficult thing deserve to be able to joke about our own experiences without getting lectured about some knock-off CBT that's been ground up and shat out of the online pop psychology void, and also you know this format in itself is a suicide joke right it's just euphemistic
It is genuinely feminist action to take care of yourself. Not in a capitalist overconsumption "Do this 16 step skincare routine and clean girl makeup that doesn't look like you're wearing makeup ✨💖✨" way but in a, "Brush your teeth and do not intentionally starve yourself" way.
This is the only body you will have and you do have to take care of and maintain it.
This sentiment is, as always, disability/mental health friendly and if bodily maintenance is something you struggle with or cannot do on your own there is no moral failure there. We live in a world designed to prevent us from caring for ourselves and that system targets and fails you more than most. Doing the best with what you can and are able to do is always better than nothing.
This sentiment is, as always, very much meant for trans women. This sentiment is not a knock on HRT or surgery — that is a form of legitimate body maintenance. The point here is that you do not have to participate in capitalist femininity to be a "real woman" or to be feminine. You do not need a million products to be a woman. You do not need to be skinny to be a woman. You do not need to starve yourself to be a woman. Structural misogyny will try and pressure you into these things for gender validation and you do not need it. You do not need to validate your womanhood with patriarchal capitalism.
Eat something and brush your teeth.
Also keep moving! Not in a "get skinny" way but in a "keep your mobility as long as you can" way. Being able to walk and move your body is something many people take for granted until it's too late.
If you need a mobility device (walker, cane etc) to keep moving, that's perfectly fine!
pop health science is so annoying bc it'll be like "did you know? eating strawberries will give you mega cancer" and you're like pfft whatever begone influencer. but sometimes then you'll see a reasonably credible article like "Study Shows Possible Link Between Strawberries and Mega Cancer" and you're not usually the type to follow that kind of thing religiously but idk maybe you should consider not eating strawberries? but then there's another article saying "Strawberry/Mega Cancer Study Debunked" and it turns out the original study had a sample size of 3 and was funded by Big Blueberry, and strawberries may have a small connection to mega cancer but only if you are genetically predisposed to mega cancer and eat 50 strawberries every day. so you return to your strawberry eating life. but whenever you eat strawberries in public someone tells you about the mega cancer.
the other thing ill say is it could have been very interesting for reid to address the rapid and inexplicable changes to shane’s personality at the end of the long game (immediately overcoming his disordered eating, not wanting to watch the stanley cup finals, passively forgiving everyone offscreen, being excited to play in ottawa without complications) as like……. shane is experiencing a severe dissociative episode.
shane — who at this point has spent the entire book being told by literally everyone that he needs to be less mopey and anxious and to support ilya’s life more — fully compartmentalises everything and pushes all of it down. he’s never been happier, truly. yes he’d love to host the centaurs at his new house without warning. he’d love to do a photoshoot. he’d love to post a video on instagram. he’d love to be the butt of the joke. look how much fun he’s having. this is great. he just needs to be less worried about everything and it’ll all work out. ilya will take care of it. he just needs to go to the back of the line. yes, he wants another slice of chocolate cake please and thank you
ideally i think. ilya and his parents would perhaps slowly catch on that the bizarre stepford wife act is in fact a coping mechanism and shane hollander the person is in fact grieving in total freefall. itd be nice for other characters to objectively look at the situation and think. man i can’t believe we were mad at shane for getting threatened by the commissioner of the nhl or being outed twice over or being accused of cheating and losing both his professional career and his reputation. but in the meantime shane is doing just awesome thanks for asking.
i do think a lot of the shit that cause problems with this fandom truly honestly comes down to this: a lot of people in HR fandom (and fandom in general, let's be VERY honest) do not understand that when they talk about BDSM and doms and subs don't realize they are talking about very real people in a very real community.
the things you say about "ilya wouldn't be mean to shane during sex, he loves shane too much" is a reflection on how you feel about real life doms who are "mean" to their subs.
the things you say about "shane can't be submissive in multiple ways, he's one of the best players in the world and extremely dominant in his sport" is a reflection on how you feel about real life subs and what you think their submission means about how good/bad they are at their job.
even the more subtle shit like, "ilya goes along with what shane says and does what he wants sexually and he does it just for shane. he loves shane and would be ok with anything" reflects on what you subtly think about doms having their own desires and what it means about their love for their partner.
shit like "once ilya has been to Enough Therapy and their relationship is settled enough, he's gonna stop wanting to be in charge and be willing to let shane take the reigns" is a reflection on a) how you feel about doms with trauma they're dealing with, b) bdsm being...a mental illness question mark? and c) submissives being selfish and the only ones benefiting from BDSM in a relationship.
like PLEASE just think for a second!!!!!
happy disability pride month to mean cripples, nasty addicts, people with down syndrome who arent nice and talk constant shit, wheelchair users that WILL run you over, autists that dont care and arent about to pretend to, people who lie to their psychiatrists, people that sit on the floor in public places with no benches, amputees that lie profusely about "what happened"; to the "noncompliant", the "drug seeking", the "mean", the "difficult" and the "undeserving", and so on and so forth, i love us all and we deserve the world actually mwah mwah
Critical support to these scammers weaponizing homophobia to drain right-wingers' bank accounts 🫡
my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort
the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
there's not a single example I could give that's better than this
