Recommending a neat book by a Black woman author.
Okay so my ma was blessed with this book early at Essence last week, and as we were reading it together with my younger sister, chapter one already got me hooked,, not only cause it was way too close to home, but it will make you have a lot of feelings towards the characters and the story. Looking forward to reading the rest of the chapters through this week with my mom and sister, and I'd love for y'all to check it out too!
It's a book called The Risk Worth Taking by Teri Ijeoma. A book on taking risks, self-discovery, and genuine good life advice.
Here's her linktree which will show where her books will be released (Till July 14th of this year)
Here's the book:
Ooooh!! Thank you for sharing!
the freaks. i bet they like each other or something
hi! firstly i love love love your blog you are awesome at what you do and have been such a big help 🙏
actual question. i have an oc who is a Black trans queer boy living in Texas. he is the fourth member of a friend group and the oldest (17, everyone else is 14-16).
i worry this falls into the trope of the mammy/Black person who is parenting the group. i know it’s more of a thing with Black girls but is it still something that happens with boys (again, my oc is trans, dunno if that matters tho)?
i’m trying my best to balance the fact that he is older (and unfortunately it’s a pretty important plot point) with his other personality traits (he’s rebellious, he’s incredibly loyal, he’s fairly argumentative, etc.) but i wondered if you had any tips for how to avoid falling into this trope!! thank you so much, i hope you’re doing well <3
Actually! Belly of the Beast by Da'Shaun Harris spoke about this very phenomenon (amongst others)! Very short and to the point book, I really liked it, you ought to start there and then use the resources provided within!
Hello!
Out of curiosity, do you know yet what book we’re reading after medical apartheid? I’m asking because I would like to make sure I get a copy ahead of time, but please don’t feel pressured if you haven’t picked it out yet!
Beloved, by Toni Morrison!
so many great things about the “i’d let him do open heart surgery on me if he wanted” quote, but i love that it’s another case of grace displacing his wants onto the other person. so he doesn’t have to be rejected. does stratt want me to work on the project? do my friends want me at the party? does the scientific community want me at the conference? does rocky want to do surgery on me? mf do YOU want these things?? can you take ownership of your own desires…
guys my students would be so bummed if you sent me to die. have we thought about how they feel.
Do you guys think there was a bit where the Taumoeba leaked from the ship and Rocky just quietly accepted that he was going to die like the rest of his crew. Grace had helped him gain closure that he couldn’t have stopped the radiation sickness, but the breeder tank design was all Rocky’s doing. Erid and Earth and Grace—Rocky’s entire world—were going to die because he overlooked yet another detail. No one would know it was Rocky’s fault either—there would be nobody left to speculate who let the universe down.
Erid’s best engineer who killed himself with his own ignorance and brought the stars down with him. The damage, complete and thorough in it’s cosmic destruction, was done.
But then Ryland Grace shows up at blip-A’s door and says they’re going home, that it’s his turn to fix.
Their entire dynamic in three lines. Also hello foreshadowing.
my favorite thing to come from the phm fandom is low res rocky. like yes that's a circle with five legs that's my boy.
I broke every single rule of phm worldbuilding for this silly selfinduljment of mine
So basically it seems that grace prefers the sour skittles the most and because of that i give him my love for lemons as well
From chapter 21 of Andy Weir's "Project Hail Mary"
that au wehere ilyukhina and yao dont die and everyone is a bit more happymaybe? a bit sillier?
i think this more or less covers all the bases (i may have missed one or two obvious ones, though)
I can't believe it took me this long to post these I finished this like nine months ago
An idea I had for Blood of Eden propaganda/recruitment posters featuring some of our favorite guys - combo of digital-print cyberpunk graphic design style with oldschool Saturday Morning Post covers like you'd see Leyendecker paintings on
I was gonna post these ahead of tabling at a small con and selling prints of them but ended up not tabling because turns out grad school is hard
maybe next year... figured tumblr would like though
