everyone lies these days. he's known this to be true for a while; never quite trusted anyone enough to put faith in words before actions. even so, this betrayal catches him off-guard. air of superiority evaporates quickly amidst falling water when the supposedly stormproof umbrella in his hands does a 180° flip upside down and cracks a spine or two on top of it all. might as well just toss it into the wind and let nature finish it off. call that natural selection. or retribution. his eyebrows furrow as he holds onto its remnants anyhow. he's made peace with the fact that he wouldn't make it out of here in any state less than drenched to the bones. the only consolation left is being able to share the misery.
"... ..." he blinks past the steady stream that's decided to ensnare his face. tries to ignore the uncomfortable cold seizing his cloth-clad chest. "... in any case," voice is a mere mumble amidst the noise of thousand drops barraging the previously too-dry ground. thinking about it some more, he doesn't feel particularly appeased at the thought of shared suffering. goosebumps that begin to form on his skin cause his eyes to narrow—courtesy of annoyance stirred by ineptitude. finally, his gaze wanders from shredded umbrella to the equally soaked man to his left. light strands of hair stick to his face; offer a rather pathetic frame for the questionable expression he's donning. go ahead. laugh. for all that it's worth, the broken umbrella could still be swung like a bat. "... where did you park the car?"
