I was gifted a 20 Long!
So now I’ve spent the day figuring out how I’m going to stock the tank. Any input would be welcome! As well as if you would use gravel or sand, and what kind of decorations. I don’t want to do live plants because I can’t keep plants alive. I’m planning on getting...
• one albino bristlenose pleco
• four rasbora heteromorpha
• six neon tetras
• one tequila sunrise delta guppy
Heya friends!
So I’m upgrading my Axolotl tank very soon as they’re outgrowing the tank I initially bought for them and will soon be in a 40 long.
This means I’ll have a nice 20 long with no inhabitants. Does anyone have a suggestion for what could go in there? (aside from a betta, a betta is the last thing I need more of rip..)
I was sorta considering something reptilian if possible, with research of course, but I just wanted to see what all would work there from the professionals?
Urgent fishblr question:
My 10g decided to leak today. I’ve been wanting to upgrade for a while now, ideally to a 20 long. However, my table looks like this:
From edge to edge its 31 inches but the actual flat part is 29 inches and a 20 long is 30 inches wide. How much of a problem is this? Will that extra half an inch on each side cause a major problem even if theres still table right below it?
Bonus question: I know its better to go wider instead of higher but I noticed the 20 long and the 29g have the same footprint. Is it worth it to get the 29g? Would they use that extra space even though its vertical? Or if I need a smaller footprint to fit my table should I go for the highest gallonage I can or will it matter since it's all height? Stocking is 6 white cloud mountain minnows, a few fry (who are doing surprisingly well and I think may actually make it to adulthood!), and a nerite snail.
Thanks to anyone who looks at this. I trust fishblr way more than I trust the rest of the internet for advice.
Yikes, guys. Ive got an apple snail the size of my clenched hand, 2 plecos and uhhh some weird looking snails probably pond snails. I've got a 20long situated already but im allowed only to have it filled halfway.. Question is how many times and what quantity should i be changing the water? I have some corydora food for them but thats about it. I've been inforned the owner has a 55g themselves so im not worried about them.
Also in fish-related news: My earth worms are still alive!
Back in August I got curious and wanted to know if earth worms could be used to help aerate/nutrient cycle my planted tank. Originally I just put a worm in my tank every now and then for my crayfish to eat, but once or twice he let them go and I wasn’t fast enough grabbing it out of the tank before it got lost in the gravel. Thinking about it, there’s no reason why an earth worm can’t survive in a fish tank; there were plenty of times in my undergrad where I’d do stream surveys for invertebrates and come up with netfuls of earth worms. There’s nothing special about them versus the ones you’d find digging solid ground, the key is that the water needs to be fairly high oxygen in order for them to respire (this is why you’ll find bunches of dead earth worms in stagnant puddles; drowning for worms is a function of access to dissolved oxygen, not submersion in water). I run one 20 gallon filter and one ten gallon filter on my 20 long, so my tank never lacks for dissolved oxygen.
This evening I came upstairs to look at the tank and there’s an earth worm, poking his head up to say hello. It had an interesting sort of iridescence to it, kind of purple and green and pink. I know that there were at least two in the tank originally. I wonder if they can reproduce under water. I might be doing some re-scaping in the next few months (I let some things overgrow and now they’re dying back and it all looks kinda messy and disorganized) so I’ll post again if I find more.
yes. ... HA HA ... yes !!!
20 gallon long at the top, with two lighting positions. Pictured of my school of Rasbora hets/harlequins (mixed), and Slime the 2.5 year old female betta.
15 gallon column shown second, with Bunny the 6 month old female betta, and a mystery snail.
Just cleaned both of these tanks! Moved the driftwood around in the 20, added it in the 15. It's still waterlogging in the 15 hence the rocks stacked on the wood.
I'm going to add more plants to all my tanks, particularly the 20 long. If anyone has a recommendation for a site to order plants from it would be much appreciated!
