maddie: "of course."

eddie: "and obviously, we don't have to actually go out."

maddie: "oh no, there will be a date."

eddie: "what?"

maddie: "i spent $2,500, there will be a date!"

eddie: "you're... married."

maddie: "oh not with me. 🙂 with buck!"

eddie: "buck??"

maddie: "you two have a lot in common. 😇"

eddie: [laughs] "maddie, i see buck all the time."

maddie: "but have you been on a DATE with buck?"

eddie: "no--i--wha--you think buck wants to DATE me?"

maddie: "call it a hunch."

she's pats him on the shoulder while walking away.

"sister's intuition."

later, maddie informs buck of the date.

buck: "maddie, he's STRAIGHT."

maddie: "are you sure about that? he made me bid $2,500 so he wouldn't have to go out with a woman."

I would pay money to see that text conversation between Maddie and Eddie because I know if MY little brother’s situationship of 8 years that my brother swears up and down is straight texted me out of the blue saying “please get me out of going on a date with a woman, I’ll pay ANYTHING” … I would have some follow up questions

imagine if eddie and maddie finally talk (maybe trapped in an elevator, maybe not) and maddie is like lowkey a little pissed because this useless idiot is the guy her baby bro is obsessed with?! fr??? he can’t even get her out of this elevator.

and listen. maddie has things to be grateful abt with eddie. he did rescue buck. he has given him a home and comfort and love. it’s just, like… maddie sees that buck is hopelessly down bad even if buck doesn’t. and this guy. he just holds so much power over buck.

so maddie maybe sorta isn’t the nicest she could be and says something like, “you may have been willing to search for him, but he would have died for you” bc i think even if buck didn’t explain everything that happened, he’d mention enough to her.

and eddie is like “id die for him too. that’s part of the job.” he means it beyond the 118. he means, our duty to each other, as Buck and Eddie, as chris’s parents, not firefighters buckley and diaz, is to live and die for each other.

but obviously maddie doesn’t like that answer and she’s like “he was willing to give up more than his life. he was willing to give up his identity. his future. coming home ever again. meeting someone who loves him back. seeing jee and nash and me!!! for you!!!”

and eddie wouldn’t get it when she says it like that but maddie would know this man is as thick headed as her brother so she’d say it over.

it might take her banging on his chest like a closed door and asking him if it’s really so crazy and she’d resort to military metaphors (“he’s always willing to fight, but for you he’d surrender”)

and eddie would go quiet because Oh Fuck. what he’s known with Knowing can no longer be unknown. everything just rushes in.

After the auction, Eddie asks for a favor. Maddie has a better idea.

"You ever hear of a hall pass, Eddie?" Maddie asks, sipping the dregs of the glass of wine she's been nursing all night. "Yeah, of course." Him and Shannon had joked about them a lot back in the day; hers was Daniel Radcliffe, his had been Rita Moreno. They'd both agreed on Ricky Martin. (The last time they'd slept together, she'd mused that they should add Buck to their joint list. He tries not to think about it in relation to everything that came next.) "You tellin' me I'm on your list?" he continues. "Ours. It's a pretty hard one to get on." Maddie winks. That makes Eddie sit up straighter; the couple watches his every move carefully. "Chim?" Eddie asks in confirmation. "I didn't know you were..." "I'm flexible," he shrugs when Eddie doesn't finish. "In more ways than one. Want me to prove it?"
