The reason I like your rewrite is that each character feels like their age and era. Everyone in Hazbin Hotel seems weirdly accustomed to all this technology and modern culture. The only thing we get is Alastor hating technology, which is weak because anyone could hate being filmed.

My main gripe is that Adam should never have been sexist or as immature as he is in the show.

God gave them clothing and told them to figure shit out after kicking them out of Eden. Adam had to work for his food, kill for meat, and most importantly had to watch Eve give birth multiple times without any modern medical intervention. And I’m only talking about pregnancy, what about her first period? Imagine thinking your wife is dying only to realise that the blood means she’s healthy. What about postpartum, the fact that she was weaker during and after nine months of carrying his baby and he had to take care of her? What about the time she almost died because in 900 years of living that must have been a possibility?

How the hell do you hate women after all of that?

Even when we put Lilith into perspective, God loves his children, but will humble them when needed. I like to think Adam was kind of arrogant when he was created and God created Lilith to teach him about the importance of cooperation. The moment he tried to assert dominance over her, she left and later became a demon that fucked with his entire bloodline, hence why he’s more willing to cooperate with Eve and treat her as his helper rather than his slave.

and all this is really more logical than the final version! Eve wasn't originally created from a rib as a man's servant (if we look at original text, not at the later, not very accurate translation), and proud statements that culture treats Eve incorrectly, along with reducing the image of Adam to a misogynistic jerk, is a rather hackneyed stamp, not justice regarding Eve

besides, as you said, Adam has been the only person next to Eve for centuries in many situations, and I doubt very much that after all that has happened you will hate your literal other half!

I also realized that I haven't drawn them in a long time, haha

and thank you ❤️ I try to be as much consistent as it possible, and in historical/relationship moments too

Anyways yeah, Luci redesign n Adam! I gave Luci a lil makeover outfit, so usually he’ll wear his robe but when he has to go out he’ll wear the outfit in this pic! Wanted to keep the circus theme somewhat and the last outfit I gave him didn’t scream it at all. Adam is just having “fun” as per usual, once the clock ring it’s playtime for him heheh🍎🎸

- i wanted to swap adam and michael out just bc i think itd make more sense to have the guy who in the bible is literally in charge of fighting heavens wars to be the leader of heavens army

- he has a very different personality to adam but he fulfils the same narrative role

- i should mention here that in my rewrite, citizens of heaven are aware of the exterminations. they are controversial but people know

- michael is a very reserved and formal man. he believes that 1. no sinner is capable of ascending. to quote pilot alastor, the chance they get is the life they lived before. and 2, whatever waits for them after their 2nd death is better than their current existence. kinda like a mercy kill

-these guys dont appear till season 2, where they give charlie 1 month to get her shit together before they officially debate the idea of attempting redemption

- the trial goes badly bc of course it does. charlie was going to lose before she even set foot in that room, michael and lute make sure of it.

- michael dies at the end of s2 just like adam. charlie offers him mercy, holds out her hand, and he accepts. however he is stabbed through the gut by vicky before anything can happen.

-that brings us to lute. lute my beloved

-she and vicky have a.. complicated relationship

-by that i mean lute developed a FIERCE crush on her and started to hate her for it. internalised homophobia yk

- specifically she is convinced that vicky "infected" her with these desires. so when she sees vicky fuck up one extermination - knocking her unconscious and killing another by accident- lute takes the opportunity to cut that stupid eye out. she still carries her back to heaven though

-she then also testifies against vick, calling her a failed angel. she does not know what happened to her after that. she assumed that she was dead right up until she sees vick with the princess of hell on the day of the hotel case

-she feels a mix of pity and hatred towards vick right up until she sees shes still alive at which point it becomes all rage

-shes also been having hallucinations for a lot longer now, theyre just a part of her everyday life. another thing shes been "infected" with

-they get way worse after michael dies tho

-her relationship with michael is not romantic anymore- hes like a teacher figure to her. he has unrequited feelings towards her, they both know this. lute has tried in the past to like michael back, he always denies this bc he knows its not true

-michael knows everything about lute, including all the stuff she thinks makes her sinful. he protects her from heaven, shields her from accusations bc well. hes her best soldier and a good friend. one thing about michael is that hes a fucking hypocrite bc he extends none of this grace to any sinner

- no one in heaven really likes lute. they all think shes offputting and too much, antisocial. thry cant do anything while adams around tho

-i think instead of rejoining the angels at the end of s2, she instead passes out from the bloodloss of cutting your own arm off and is left stranded in hell, one wing broken so she cant fly.

-she then goes on a murderous rampage before becoming the hotels captive, having a #characterarc where she realises these guys are nice actually but pretends not to change, then rejoining the angels and realising just how much they hate & disrespect her &michael.

- and at a crucial moment betrays the angels to help charlies gang, which she Falls for.

- i also think it would be fun if she gets a big fat crush on Pao (my cherri) dykes 4everrrrr ❤️

-her weapons of choice are sickles bc i thought a scythe would be too on the nose

Finally confident enough to post my sketchy redesigns for Perfect Purgatory. I may change some colors for Sir P and Husk, but for now I’m satisfied with how they've all turned out. I'd also like to thank @midnighthybrid1 for helping me out with Lucifer's colors!

Tried to keep them simple, yet recognizable as both animation and comic friendly designs.

One key theme I wanted to do with colors is designate what realm they most align with thematically- red (warm colors) for hell, blue (cool colors) for heaven, and yellow (muted) for purgatory.

There's also blends of colors for certain characters such as Vox incorporating red into his outfit and choosing to wear blue, or Lucifer having yellows in his palette despite being the ruler of hell. I'll let y'all pick out some patterns urself ;)

Idk even know if it's a rewrite or my interpretation or what to call it anymore but- Perfect Purgatory is a more horror oriented interpretation of Hazbin. Focusing on themes of redemption, the existentialism of immortality, faith, and dehumanization through the various residents of Hotel Līmen.

This took me so long and I still have three characters to add along with making alternate looks for some of them, last 3 are Valentino, Velvette, and Sera. But I think it's good for now.

I also now have a clear idea of a story! It's not just floating concepts anymore. Still dunno how I want to present it though.
