There's something very Autism coded about that Impulse comic where Bart says he always deals with the threat before saving the person because you get more "points" for defeating the bad guy.
He was asked a question, and answered it. We know that Bart thinks in pictures, so in all likelihood this was an attempt to put his thought process into words via a medium he is comfortable with (video games).
The question was not one that should have had a right or wrong answer, but his answer was still bad. He doesn't know why, but Max is upset. Max does not explain why he is upset, he doesn't tell Bart what he did wrong.
They go home.
Bart doesn't want Max to be mad at him, but he doesn't know how to fix it because he doesn't know what needs to be fixed. So he fixes a bunch of things that normally make Max upset. Max is supposed to be proud, or at least impressed, but he ignores it
You can see that Bart is confused and upset. Max is suddenly being cold. He said that he's "giving up" without explanation. That could mean a lot of things.
This is incredibly common experience for neurodivergent kids. We are often in trouble without being told why. As someone with ADHD and Autism, this issue spoke to me on an incredibly personal level.
im having a bit of a Bad Brain Day do ypu have any hcs for adhd+autistic bart allen ? i love this blog btw it makes me very happy
I’m so sorry to hear that! But I’ve got you covered baby, and I’m so glad you enjoy our blog! ~ Amy
-Bruce, watching Bart and remembering his experiences with raising three children with adhd: Allen. I think your grandson has ADHD. Bart: what’s that slang for?? -Bart: have you ever had something bad touch you and you just wanna rip your fucking skin off because you’re so moded by it? Conner: no??? Bart: haha yeah ofc me either -Repeats noises. Door slams, glasses clinking, computer beeps, just loves to repeat the noises with his mouth. -Big Hyperfixation on building stuff. Remember that time he built a fucking time machine? He loves building technical stuff. Disassembling and reassembling laptops is one of his favourite pastimes. -He Could slow down yes probably, But Then not enough of his Thoughts would escape his brain before they were Forgotten Forever. -gotta move to the Extreme. gotta ZOOM. -Bart: listen I will literally throw up if a tomato is ever inside my mouth. They are the worst. They are the hell vegetable. It can’t decide if it wants to be a liquid or a solid and so it’s some hellish combination of both. Tim: they’re fruits-Bart: I DONT GIVE A DAMN! THEY DISRESPECT ME I’LL DISRESPECT THEM! -Bart, being told he is Allowed to Press The Button: *wiping away a tear* this is the happiest day of my life I fuckign love buttons
I forget which knee he was shot in and I didn't bother looking it up. So sorry if the knee brace is on the wrong side. I really like his costume so I kept most elements of it, just made it look a little less childish. There's also no way in hell I'm getting rid of his floofy hair!
I kind of have this idea that he goes on a quest with Tim to get both of their mentors back out of the time stream. I always thought it was weird that both of them had mentors lost in the timestream and neither of them ever really talked about it to each other or tried to team up. Basically it would be the Red Robin run but with Bart tagging along and helping out so obviously things go a little differently.
After all that is done, Bart settles down and becomes a comic book artist for the company that makes the Golden Crusader (or whatever it was called) comic books. He takes the name Mercury because at that point Max retires so he doesn't need the name anymore. Bart, obviously still has ADHD and Autism, but he chills out a bit as an adult and learns to control his anger outbursts and impulsivity.
I'll need to catch up on the Red Robin comics and the Impulse comics first, but I would definitely like to write this! Would anyone be interested in reading it?
Yo gays reblog this and say some random headcanons about Bart I'm bored and I wanna talk. To clarify this isn't about YJA Bart, if you wanna talk about him you can but you gotta clarify that's who you're talking about cuz they're pretty much different people. Anyways, here's mine:
Uses "pretty" to describe people of both genders that he finds attractive. It doesn't matter if it's a fucking 6'5 hulking figure of a guy if Bart thinks he looks good he's pretty.
Has freckles. I do not care what canon says. He has freckles all over his body.
He talks like a stereotypical old fashioned NYC kid but with a southern accent. If words can be mashed together, they are. Has said y'allnt at some point and Wonder Girl narrowly resisted throwing him out the window for it.
This child has ADHD and Autism, I feel it in my SOUL.
Has a devil-may-care attitude about everything, but specifically how people perceive him. He actually cares quite a lot and would admit that if asked directly, but he figures that no matter how hard he tries he will never live up to people s expectations so why bother trying. This has lead to many misunderstandings
He mumbles in Interlac when he's tired/scared/emotional in general. One time after a very hard and trying day Max told him to go to bed and goodnight, to which Bart mumbled back in Interlac "''Night Dad." He then proceeded to be extremely grateful that no one in the house could understand Interlac.
