Chapter One: Gravedigger 101
There's something very Autism coded about that Impulse comic where Bart says he always deals with the threat before saving the person because you get more "points" for defeating the bad guy.
He was asked a question, and answered it. We know that Bart thinks in pictures, so in all likelihood this was an attempt to put his thought process into words via a medium he is comfortable with (video games).
The question was not one that should have had a right or wrong answer, but his answer was still bad. He doesn't know why, but Max is upset. Max does not explain why he is upset, he doesn't tell Bart what he did wrong.
They go home.
Bart doesn't want Max to be mad at him, but he doesn't know how to fix it because he doesn't know what needs to be fixed. So he fixes a bunch of things that normally make Max upset. Max is supposed to be proud, or at least impressed, but he ignores it
You can see that Bart is confused and upset. Max is suddenly being cold. He said that he's "giving up" without explanation. That could mean a lot of things.
This is incredibly common experience for neurodivergent kids. We are often in trouble without being told why. As someone with ADHD and Autism, this issue spoke to me on an incredibly personal level.
What would happen if Bart started drinking energy drinks
okay so. people say tim has a coffee addiction but they’re so wrong. it’s energy drinks, guys. and one day, he’s with Young Justice after finishing a case, and he pops one of his energy drinks. and of course bart being bart, wants to try it. so he zooms over, snatches it from tim’s hands, takes a sip... and immediately keels over. just straight up passes out.
now, mans has combo number five: ADHD & Autism with a side of fries. and caffeine works MUCH differently for us neurodivergent folks. case in point: bart lying prone on the floor, looking pretty much like he’s just died.
so of course kon and cassie are freaking out, and tim is too, but only on the inside. by second three of bart not moving, tim is mentally drafting an apology to wally. “hey there flash, we’re really sorry but while we were hanging out your cousin kind of died via caffeine poisoning. we think.” and so now the three of them are just standing there in a triangle, looking down at bart on the floor.
and then: a noise. a noise unlike any you’ve ever heard. it sounds like a chainsaw, mixed with a hollywood dinosaur (not a real dinosaur, they’ve met the real ones and they sound nothing like that), mixed with a jet plane taking off. bart is... vibrating? nearly through the floor, in fact. but the vibrating stops for a second. then starts again.
after a couple more starts and stops, cassie starts laughing, close to literal tears. “he’s... he’s snoring!” she manages to choke out between hearty guffaws. kon joins in. tim steels his jaw, but even he can’t help but let loose a giggle. he rummages through the supplies to find some poster board and a thick black marker.
“YOUNG JUSTICE RULE #1”
he writes with the marker,
“NO GIVING SPEEDSTERS ENERGY DRINKS”
ok but i relate to bart allen so much bc he is always being told to slow down but his thoughts go fast and my thoughts are also fast and people tell me to slow down and say i talk too fast when i get exited and they tell me to calm down but they dont realize im never calm and when im not talking fast and waving my hands im just trapping it inside and that hurts and i say things other people dont understand cuz my brain works weird and bart has that too cuz he just perceives things different and when we dont understand people they either get mad and say we're lying and just don't care what they have to say or they think that means we're too stupid to understand but when they dont understand us it means we're the stupid ones again even though it makes perfect sense to us they just dont take the time to understand it. and when bart's teacher asked if he was paying attention and he listed off the things that had happened to prove he had been and she got mad we're supposed to understand why she was and think it was funny and that bart was in the wrong but he wasnt she was bc she asked a question and he answered it thats her fault if she didnt want him to she shouldn't have asked and that happens to me all the time and i hate bart's teacher
