Women that do the wrong things for the right reasons, women that do the right things for the wrong reasons. Naive women, anguished women, women with varying relationships to motherhood, to gender, to religion, to love, to devotion.

I’m completely obsessed with every woman in this series and holy shit is it so important to me that they exist.

Hot sauce the charismatic and impassioned youth with dedicated friends who struggles to balance her sense of justice with her rage.

Kevin the sad little boy who plays with dolls.

All an echo of the man she chose. The one who loved her and betrayed her and locked her away.

Teaching those poor kids to be better leftists who don't just rush head first into their doom or turn against comrades for the sake of ideological purity, but actually focus on the hard work of surviving... Boy, do we need more of that right now.

These books are about a great many things but one of the things NtN in particular is about is all the ways anti-imperialist struggle can be diverted through mindless rage into toxic and counterproductive directions (the John chapters are all about that too of course). Aim is saving Hot Sauce and her crew so much grief here...
