I'm still trying my best to be patient about Persona 4 Revival but man...I'm so so excited to find out who the new English voice actors for the Investigation Team are gonna be...
Manifesting AJ Beckles as Yosuke, Stephen Fu as Yu, and Jenny Yokobori as Yukiko...
Probably gonna be wrong on those guesses when the time comes for the new English voice cast to finally be revealed but I'm gonna be happy with whoever we get. Who knows when we'll find out but I'm so excited for the new voice cast.
Modern Atlus dubs have been so good lately. Metaphor: ReFantazio and SMT V Vengeance are awesome, Persona 3 Reload has an awesome voice cast that I ended up really liking, and I know Persona 4 Revival is gonna keep it up.
Imagine this scene but with Seiko, Momo and Okarun (especially since AJ Beckles voices both Okarun and Michael).
Either Seiko is accompanying Okarun in the maid cafe her granddaughter is working or Okarun also gets a part time job and Seiko and Momo watch him work while eating at the restaurant.
Tachihara my dude can you come back to the manga? I get being in the lion king movie is fun and all but we kinda need you here man.
New York Comic Con Summary
OKAY! This one was the most hectic out of all the cons I went to this year--but also the most rewarding and exciting. As I mentioned already, a lot of stars from my hyperfixations were there, and I got to see most of whom I wanted to see! As per usual, fanart and bracelet gifts ensued. Let's go.
Day 1
First off, I met Troy Baker, the original voice of Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4! I said that Kanji is a character that I find very endearing and funny and shared some of my favorite lines. "Kanji Tatsumi doesn't take crap from anyone!" "I love stupid cute shit!"
I also got a photo op with Matthew Mercer--Critical Role dungeon master, Jotaro from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Espio from Sonic the Hedgehog! I congratulated him on reprising the latter in Sonic Crossworlds Racing.
I also got to meet both Vincent Martella and David Errigo Jr., Phineas and Ferb themselves! I thanked them for voicing in one of my all-time favorite shows, as well as complimenting them on their respective other roles. (Hope FF13 for Vincent, Ranma 1/2 for David)
And Laura Bailey, Rise Kujikawa (Persona 4)! I made reference to Rise, plus Kotone (P3P FeMC) and Blaze (Sonic), and gushed about Rise to her.
I tried to get into the TADC panel that day, but I came too late to fit into the room. Don't worry, though, I'm not out of the loop on the news... (more later)
Day 2
First up was having a photo op with Marisha Ray, Margaret! She appreciated the reference to her (via bracelet and fanart of course), and we posed.
I then stopped by the Glitch booth for two TADC actor visits!
Amanda Hufford, for the third time this year! I gave them some goodies, gushed about how pretty Ragatha was (especially in her new beach outfit awooga~), and they once again appreciated my love!
And Ashley Nichols, the voice of Zooble! I've been really wanting to see them for a while, so as I gave them my goodies and some fan mail, I thanked them for being an inspiration and influence for my own creative pursuits, as well as for voicing my favorite character Zooble.
I then got to meet Sam Riegel, the voice of Teddie himself! It was the day after his birthday, so I wished him a happy one as I gave him my gifts and thanked him for voicing such a lovable character (despite what some people may say >:)), and I complimented his singing as Scanlan the bard in Vox Machina.
I also saw both Abby Trott and AJ Beckles, the starring duo of DanDaDan! I shared my interpretations of their characters being autistic to the both of them [separately], and they were both receptive to it! Abby suggested that I check out an anime called "Yamada Love Story" something-or-other because of its own autism subtext. I told AJ that his commentary on Okarun's breakdown in the very first episode lulled me in to the show. ("All Okarun.") Also, *squeaky voice* "My balls!"
The last thing of the day was seeing Allegra Clark, Mitsuru Kirijo of Persona 3 Reload! Gave her Mitsuru bracelets, made reference to Dorothea (Black Eagles for Life!!), and also mentioned the deep-cut role that is Naomi from Goodbye Volcano High, which she loved. I brought Koro-chan with me for a selfie together!
PS if a GVH fan sees this, Allegra says "hi" to you ;)
Also, while I was waiting in line for Allegra, I saw Lizzie Freeman, Alex Rochon, and the latter's wife Charlie wandering about before stopping by to say hi to Allegra. [For reference, I remember her and Lizzie working together at least on P3R Episode Aigis, where Lizzie was Metis]
Day 3
I stopped by the Glitch booth again for today's turn of TADC actor signings! Also, I was in Jax cosplay, which made for some fun moments.
Marissa Lenti, Gangle themselves! We talked Ribbun a bit, I half-sarcastically thanked them for my interest in the ship, and I thanked them for approving of this post I made back in April! (not clickbait check the notes there)
And Lizzie Freeman, who I met back in April! Gave her a Trish (JoJo's) bracelet, talked about her dub lines ("This meatloaf from hell has a need for speed"), and mentioned that they could feasibly apply to Evil Pomni. ("Yeah, eat it, b!#$% meat!") Brought out Koro-chan as a reference to Metis.
There was going to be an official Glitch fan meet-up today, but too many damn people were showing up at the Glitch booth for any of the staff to leave the area. Well, that's the risk you take when you set up shop at one of the biggest events in the country! XD, /loving I did get to interact with some cosplayers on my own time, though.
Intermission: Allow me to show off some plushies I snagged.
Day 4
Tried to meet Aleks Le, but his line capped very early. As a matter of fact, he was probably one of the most-visited guests down in the autographing area all throughout the event, which was not lost on his tired ass. :P I'm not too sad, though. I think I have a chance to meet him for real next year, and depending on the con, I might get to bring my little brother (a Zenitsu fan) along to meet him.
I'll say this as well:
While there was a separate dedicated area for guest autographs and photos, the exhibit hall had its own guest booths spread out sporadically. For instance, Allegra was with 7 Bucks A Pop, which also had such legends like Tara Strong and Bob West there on different days. There was also Unknown Comics, which had a lot of the cast of the 90s X-Men cartoon, plus '97, show up (e.g. Ray Chase, Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann) Also, a surprise that was both expected and unexpected was the presence of quite a few 4kids alumni, like Yu Gi Oh stars Lisa Ortiz, Wayne Grayson, and Greg Abbey.
So yeah, NYCC had enough guests overall to fit two, maybe three, medium-sized comic conventions!
Anyway, overall, New York Comic Con was a blast, with a bunch of amazing celebrities, exhibitors, and artists there for all kinds of fans to visit. However, because of how popular--thus crowded--it was, I'm thinking that this will be a one-time-only kind of con for me. π Was worth visiting, though!
And a special thank you to @justtheclippy, @actuallynickels, and @vixenvtuber for being such lovely people to interact with!
Shoutouts to AJ Beckles in his performance as Okarun in Dandadan. His sad backstory of wishing for aliens to come down and be friends with him was so emotionally charged and I credit AJ for that.
I didn't feel as emotional while reading it (or watching the sub tbh), and I think that really tells you the beauty of an anime adaptation (and by extension, having an English dub). What works within the realm of a comic book may not work as well in animation. And animation can add certain flare to scenes that were more simplistic in the original material. The example here being the end of episode 1: The exploding ship when Okarun reveals his name to Momo was perfect.
The English dub being promoted and marketed makes me so happy, because English dubs are genuinely quite good these days and people don't give these voice actors enough credit. The entire first episode feels like a Saturday morning cartoon gone wrong and it's the mix of saru and English dubbing that gives me that feeling.
