“Kyle Rayner is the greatest Lantern”

And

“Hal Jordan is the greatest Green Lantern”

Are two simultaneously true statements that can and do coexist

Like, if Kyle and Hal were fighting (we don’t want them to fight bc we love them but this is for the metaphor) and they were both only wearing Green Power Rings, Hal would have a significant advantage over Kyle. Not saying Kyle would never ever win no matter what, bc Kyle’s still a powerful guy, but Hal would be much more likely to come out on top.

However, if Kyle were wearing his White Ring, the opposite would be true. Again, Hal is nothing to mess with and wouldn’t get curb-stomped immediately or 100% of the time, but Kyle would be far more likely to win.

Kyle being the first to use every ring doesn’t cancel the fact that Hal is the best in his field.

Compare it to Avatar: The Last Airbender, if you’re familiar. Let’s say Kyle is young Avatar Aang, and Hal is Toph Beifong. It’s not an exact match, but just generally.

Aang wiped out Toph in their first battle by using air, an element Toph had no control over or knowledge of. Does the fact that Aang can control air at all mean Aang is a better bender than Toph? No! Toph is so good at her specialty that she invented a whole new type of bending, much like Hal, who has done things with the Green Ring that were previously thought impossible (became pure willpower, made his own ring from his own will). But in an Aang V Toph match where Aang can use all the elements, Toph would have her work cut out for her.

Kyle is a jack of all trades and Hal is a master of one.

And now, evidence!!

Btw, I’m not saying its bad or problematic to just not like a character. They’re lil fictional drawings, your allowed to not like any of them for any reason at all. What I am saying is that ppl seem to be pitting Hal and Kyle against each other as if one is obviously more powerful, when in canon, they’re both simultaneously more and less powerful than the other. I am a theatre artist. I hate phones going off during shows. But can we please stop judging people who’s phones go off, or judging someone purely based on the fact that someone has their phone set to make noise for any reason. Because many people, including myself, have medical devices connected to their phones, set to alert them if they are in medical danger.

I have seen performers saying they will take the audience members phones (if the show allows that, eg. There’s other audience interaction) from them, which fucking terrifies me!

Also it could not be a phone! My pump sometimes makes noise which I have little control over actually, and I’m sure that there are other medical devices that make noise out of their own volition.

I’m not saying this is 100% of instances, what I am saying is that maybe an alert interrupting/ distracting the show briefly is better than having to stop the show all together so 911 can be called.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone here do this, but here’s a friendly reminder!

Hyperfixations are common in people with ADHD and Autism (I think maybe more common in ADHD but I’m not positive). While sometimes they can be great - the serotonin released from indulging in the hyperfixation, and the knowledge you can gain from them - they can also be incredibly debilitating!

I myself have lost countless hours of sleep, forgotten to eat for days on end, and even forgot to use the bathroom or shower! Hyperfixations are not something to joke about if you don’t have them yourself!

Hyperfixations are so intense that you can wake up out of sleep and need to know something about it so bad that you physically cannot go back to sleep until you have figured it out, plus 10 other tangents that you went on along the way. And by the time you’ve figured all this out, it’s morning and you’ve spent all night obsessing over your hyperfixation instead of sleeping

Just don’t use the term hyperfixation for something unless you actually have ADHD or Autism and experience hyperfixations! It’s not a synonym for really really liking something!

is it weird that i’ve pictured happy endings/futures for all my friends. like once i get to know ur likes, dislikes, and passions i picture the upmost future of u living ur best life and experiencing the happiness u deserve…

okay so while im in the headspace of sharing my thoughts:

the whole “not like other girls” trend originates from like. 1) bullied kids trying to accept and embrace their “weird” qualities, and not really understanding how to do that, so they just go and bully their former bullies for liking things that are considered mainstream, and. 2) girls wanting to not fit in with the crowd bc teenage girls are so frequently shamed for their interests and its the whole concept of “but i’m not like them! i swear, i don’t like these things, i’m niche and cool” bc they want to be accepted... 

in either case, NLOG trends come from girls being shamed for the things they are interested in, either by society at a large or other girls. so like, even though i fully acknowledge that it’s toxic to shame other girls for “common interests”, i think it needs to be recognized that when people do/say/make those things like the comics that say that kind of stuff, it’s usually ppl trying to just. express their interests w/o shame. 

anyways if we want to get rid of that mindset we need to dismantle the whole thing abt girls being shamed for their interests bc on either side of the equation girls are considered annoying (either 2 basic or a “NLOG”) and not just switch from shaming one side to another
