"For heroes there are trials, for saints there are temptations, for me there is you"
It was so quiet. It was so dark. Not only in the room where he lay, but also in his heart.
Had there been any improvements?
Many years had passed, much blood and many tears had been shed.
But was there still a bright spark of hope on the horizon?
Dorian had no answer to that.
Being a rebel for a lifetime is hard on the nerves and takes a lot of energy.
Was it all really worth it in the end?
Dorian could no longer find any plausible reasons to continue fighting the shadows in his mind.
Does rest mean standstill?
Would giving up be an option?
Handing over the leadership to the younger ones would finally give him a chance to calm down.
The gray hair and wrinkles on his face didn't bother him much, but they were signs of the past.
His father hadn't had a single gray hair at his age.
Thinking about his father no longer hurt so much. Perhaps time does heal some wounds.
Many plans were thwarted, many efforts came to nothing, many hopes were destroyed in the blink of an eye.
Minrathous had to be saved.
Isn't it said: Fight fire with fire?
Doesn't it mean that when one door closes, another opens?
Is it advisable to topple gods from their thrones just to make room for other would-be gods?
Dorian was tired of looking for answers to the same old questions that have been wafting around the time-space continuum for eons like fog on a damp meadow.
But something inexplicable inside him kept pushing forward, almost against his will!
Further and further and further.
Like a rider on a proud horse, galloping towards the sunset without ever getting close to it.
So the journey is the destination and not the destination itself?
Are some individuals destined, indeed born, to fight and ponder, to overcome and test their limits again and again?
He had no answer to that either.
Dorian remembered something his Amatus once whispered to him with a smile:
"My heart. For heroes there are trials, for saints there are temptations and for me there is only you!"
Maybe everything has a meaning after all…
