“You’d do better to hold your sword like this,” Maedhros instructed you from across the training field. He had been observing you practice, making note of your weak points. It gave him an excuse to approach you, disguised as an attempt to help. The problem was, you weren’t exactly looking for any.
You turned towards him, marching closer with purpose. He demonstrated his grip, holding his arm out for you to take a look. He then brought his sword forward to show you a swing, illustrating where he found a weakness in your follow through. Instead of watching, you brought your own sword up, clashing against him as you pushed forward, blade first.
You managed to catch him by surprise, disarming him of his sword before kicking, taking his legs out from underneath him. His back hit the hard ground and he looked up at you, shocked, as you notched your blade under his chin.
“I think I hold my sword just fine,” you smiled down at him, locking eyes while he tried to catch his breath. He watched as you turned, walking away from the training ground like you didn’t just take down the Crown Prince of the Noldor without breaking a sweat.
Maedhros didn’t know whether to be angry or impressed. His feelings were getting more confused as he laid there. He supposed he’d have to see you again to figure it out.
Maglor
All night Magor watched as you danced along to the music flowing from his harp. Your moves were fluid and enchanting, causing the usually perfect elf to stumble over his notes. You didn’t take notice of his mistakes, or any of the potential suitors hovering around. You were too focused on the feeling of the music flowing through you, unlike any playing you’d heard before.
He hid behind the harp all night, unsure of how to approach you. Even though you turned to him after each song, clapping and smiling like he was playing music just for you. Thankfully, you weren’t as shy as he was.
“If someone wanted to learn to play like you, who would they seek to teach them?” You asked him at the end of the party, as he was packing up his harp to leave. He considered your question carefully, taking time to build his confidence with his answer.
“I’m not quite sure. I taught myself to play, and I’ve never given a lesson before. Though I could be persuaded,” he replied, smiling down at his instrument.
You laughed, a musical, tinkling sound erupting from your chest. It filled Maglor with light. The sound to him was better than his compositions, and he wondered if you would consider singing with him instead.
Celegorm
“And who is this fair lady who dares to be more beautiful than Varda herself while she sits in her gardens?” Celegorm says, leaving his brother in the dust as he saunters to where you rest. He walks with confidence, like a prince who has never been told “no” before. You are familiar with this type and aren’t impressed by his flowery words.
“Who is this insufferable charmer?” you reply, barely giving him a glance as he stands in front of you. That look is enough to tell you he is handsome, devastatingly so, and you are determined not to fall under his spell.
“You mean to wound me, my lady, but any words from those lips are music to my ears,” he flirts. You scoff, shocked that he thinks these tacky one liners will work on you. You’re even more shocked that maybe they are working, if even just a little.
“If you think I’m going to fall at your feet with fictions like these, you are mistaken. Come back when you’re ready to speak with me honestly,” you say, looking to drive him away before you get yourself into more trouble than you can handle.
“I most certainly will,” He throws you a wink before walking away to rejoin his brother. They venture out of the garden, but not without Celegorm looking over his shoulder at you, smiling like he wasn’t just harshly rejected.
Caranthir
The elf in front of you reaches out a hand, waving it in front of your face as you sit on the ground. You’re dazed from bumping into him, and then bumping into the ground. The hand moves impatiently, waiting for you to grab it so he can pull you up.
He tires of waiting, and instead he uses both hands to grab your shoulders and pull you up to your feet. You blush at the contact, not used to skin to skin contact. He notices your blush and turns a little red himself. You giggle to yourself, nervous, and a scowl instantly breaks out onto his face. He turns to go without a word.
You move to follow him in order to apologize, but when you take a step you feel a twinge in your ankle. You gasp when your foot meets the ground and Caranthir hears this, turning to you with concern. He sees your pained expression and walks back to offer you his arm, which you gladly accept as he walks you back to your house.
“I want to thank the elf who helped save me from my own clumsiness, but I’m not sure who to address my thanks to,” you say as you reach your door. He tells you his name and you turn it over in your mouth, loving the way it sounds.
“Please allow me to know your name, so when I come tomorrow to check on you I know who to ask for,” he replies, blushing hard as he does. You love the color of his cheeks, and can’t wait to see just how red they can get.
Curufin
You’d never been to the forge this late before, but it was nearing dinner time and your brother had yet to arrive home. Instead of finding him, you found an elf with raven black hair and a look of concentration you dared not to break.
It was broken, however, when he heard you call your brother’s name over the sound of him pounding away at his anvil. There were only a handful of people left in the forge, surely you wouldn’t have any trouble finding the one you were seeking.
Though five minutes later you were still wandering around, distracting him from his work with your glowing skin and shining eyes. He wanted to hear you call his name instead.
“Can I help you?” He asked finally when you passed close by his work station. You told him your brother's name, and he suggested taking a break to help you find him. You apologized for pulling him from his work, but he assured you it was no trouble.
He uses this time to study you, to notice the shade of your hair and the multitude of colors in your eyes. He knows exactly what he will be making in the forge next, a set of silver earrings with gems to beautifully highlight your complexion. He will get started as soon as you exit the forge, not wanting to waste a minute of inspiration.
Amrod
“I’m sorry to disturb you,” Amrod apologizes as he finds you lost in a book, hidden away in the deep parts of the forest. You startle, unaware of his presence until his voice rings in the quiet. It echoes across the trees, bouncing from branch to leaf before reaching you.
“I didn’t know anyone else knew these woods,” you confess, smiling up at him from your perch on the ground. He smiles back, timidly, unsure of how to continue the conversation. He can tell you are feeling just as shy, and is determined to put you at ease.
“It will be our secret,” he finally settles on saying. You agree and share your intentions of coming back tomorrow. He takes the hint and mentions his plans to do the same, though they didn’t exist before this moment.
He can hear the sound of his brother getting closer. Though they share everything, he has the urge to keep this place, and you, to himself. You notice this agitation and give him a quiet goodbye.
“Until tomorrow,” Amrod says, lingering in your presence as long as he can before he leaves you alone in the small clearing. He rejoins his brother, but his thoughts stay with you.
Amras
Amras notices strange footprints in the dirt as he and his twin track rabbits in the forest. They appear to be that of an elf, and while Amrod takes off after the animal tracks he follows the ones that look close to his own.
The tracks end abruptly at the base of a tree, and Amras decides he must go up and follow the trail to the end. His hunting instincts won’t let him leave it alone. The mystery is too intriguing for him, pulling him up the bark of the tree.
He finds you perched on a branch, sketching a bird’s nest high up in the leaves. Your hand moves confidently across the page, eyes moving between the nest and the drawing with ease. He is content to watch you silently, not wanting to disturb your process.
“Didn’t anyone tell you it’s not polite to stare?” You ask, eyes never tearing away from your work. He feels embarrassed until he sees your playful smile.
“My mother would be most ashamed of me,” he jokes, causing you to laugh with him. He wonders how long he can last up in the tree until someone comes looking for him. Hopefully long enough to convince you to come down with him.
A/N: This one is for all those conversations we had about our extreme sense of physical affection differing from the elves, and how they would take it.
Warnings: human reader, the temporary rejection of our physical affections

⋆˚✿˖° Curufin
𑁍 He had pretty much noticed from the first month that you liked touching his arm when you spoke, leaning your head against his shoulder when you were tired, looping your arm through his when walking, and generally being very tactile.
𑁍 At first, he didn’t mind it—he even secretly enjoyed the subtle closeness—but one day, when you hugged him from behind while he was bending over his workbench, he muttered without much thought, “You’re rather clingy, aren’t you?”
𑁍 That made you freeze instantly, pulled your hands away, and gave him a look that was a mix of insult and disbelief. “Clingy? Really?”
𑁍 By the time he realised he had made a mistake, you had already left the premises, and he had already turned back to his tools before the damage was done.
𑁍 The next few days were odd. No ‘good morning’ kisses, didn’t wait to comb and style his hair, or even take a bath with him.
𑁍 You barely touched him, never leaned in close, not even seeking him out during his work. He thought at first it was a coincidence, but then he caught you sidestepping him in the hallway to avoid brushing shoulders. That was when it clicked.
𑁍 His initial reaction was irritation—why make such a big deal out of one comment? But that was followed quickly by the uncomfortable twist in his chest at the absence of your warmth. He found himself missing the constant presence and subtle touches he had once pretended were an interruption.
𑁍 Deciding to apologise (which was so uncharacteristic of him), he approached you while you were seated in the library, head bent over a book.
𑁍 He slid into the seat across from you and, after an uncharacteristic hesitation, said, “It was poorly said. I am…accustomed to my own space, but I did not mean to make you withdraw entirely.”
𑁍 You just kept reading, which only made him more awkward.
𑁍 He began a rather un-Curufin-like campaign to regain your affection. Leaving small pieces of jewellery you’d admired on your desk, finding excuses to touch your arm or hand when speaking to you, sitting beside you instead of across from you at meals.
𑁍 One day, he even rested his head briefly on your shoulder while watching a forge demonstration, which startled you enough to glance at him, to which he only muttered, “Do not read into it.”
𑁍 Eventually, you gave in, snorting at his awkward attempts because it felt good to make him suffer. It only made his ego boost because he believed that you couldn’t resist his (charming) attempts. “See? Much better.”
𑁍 He never called you clingy again, though every so often, when you hugged him in a particularly over-the-top way, he’d puff his chest up with a proud grin, like he had won a competition.
⋆˚✿˖° Amrod
𑁍 He had always been physically demonstrative—throwing an arm around your shoulder, leaning on you when tired, dragging you along to whatever trouble he had in mind—but for some reason, when you matched that energy and often sought him out for hugs, linking arms, and leaning against him when talking, he decided to tease you about it.
𑁍 “Valar, you’re like a needy puppy,” he laughed one morning after you greeted him with a hug before breakfast.
𑁍 He didn’t mean it maliciously, but your expression darkened in a way that made his grin falter. “Oh come on, it’s a joke,” he tried, but you’d already pulled away. “Some joke, Amrod.”
𑁍 It took him exactly one day to realise what he’d done, and that evening, when he found you lounging with others but keeping your distance from him, he felt guilty.
𑁍 You’d always been within arm’s reach before, and now you were sitting at the far end of the bench, ignoring his presence. Not an eye-contact, a wink, a blink, a grin or smirk.
𑁍 He tried to play it cool, leaning against the doorframe and calling over, “Not coming over to pester me today?” You didn’t look up from your conversation, and that was all the confirmation he needed that you were annoyed.
𑁍 Not the type for serious apologies, but pranking instead, which he knew would only make things worse, he plotted without a prank instead.
𑁍 The next day, you awoke to find him sprawled dramatically across your bed, claiming he “needed his daily human contact” or he’d wither away and perish beyond the unknown. When you told him to get lost, he flopped onto the floor beside your bed and sighed as if you’d stabbed him.
𑁍 At mealtimes, he began sitting so close his knee brushed yours constantly, deliberately making a big deal about it in front of others: “Oh, I see how it is, everyone, I’m the clingy one now!”
𑁍 Finally, after several days of this relentless campaign, you cracked and shoved him playfully, muttering, “Fine, you idiot, come here.” He grinned triumphantly and slung his arm around your shoulders, muttering in a satisfied tone, “Knew you’d miss me.”
𑁍 Though he still teased occasionally, he learned to read the lines between playful and hurtful—and now, if anyone else dared call you clingy, he was the first to snap, “They’re just affectionate, keep your mouth shut.”
⋆˚✿˖° Argon
𑁍 Argon actually enjoys your physical affection most of the time. He liked when you took his arm, rested against him while talking, or greeted him with a quick hug. It made him feel comfortable in a way most interactions didn’t.
𑁍 However, in a moment of flippancy, after you clung to his arm during a rather dull council session, he chuckled and murmured, “Careful, you’re going to get a reputation for being clingy.” It was meant as harmless teasing, but the way you immediately released his arm made him realise he’d struck a nerve.
𑁍 You didn’t snap at him, just folded your hands in your lap for the rest of the meeting, and turned the other direction. That undid him more than any argument could have. Why did you have to be so cold?
𑁍 Over the course of the following days, he noticed you keeping an intentional distance, greeting him with words instead of touch, offering quick nods instead of smiles when passing in the corridor, or wanting to stay home without him around. It bothered him far more than he’d expected.
𑁍 One evening, after a feast, he caught up with you on the balcony. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
𑁍 You didn’t even feel like meeting his eyes. “No, I’ve just been giving you the space you clearly want.” That made die a little inside…and whine.
𑁍 “I do not want space. I was teasing—I thought it would make you laugh, not…Not whatever this is.” He was pretty much twiddling with his thumbs and begging internally.
𑁍 In the days that followed, he made an effort to show you that your affection was welcome. He’d seek you out in the gardens, walk close enough that his shoulder brushed yours, and sometimes initiate contact himself; a quick hand at your back when guiding you through a crowd, an arm linked with yours without a word.
𑁍 One morning, he approached you carrying two steaming mugs and offered one without preamble. When you took it, he leaned casually against you, murmuring, “If I am to be accused of being clingy in turn, so be it.” That earned him a quiet laugh, easing the tension between you.
𑁍 After that, he didn’t joke about it again, though occasionally he’d give you a sidelong smile and say, “It is a good thing you are here—I like being clung to like a bear. All cute and squishy.”
⋆˚✿˖° Egalmoth
𑁍 He’d always liked your enthusiasm—whether it was throwing both arms around his neck in greeting or looping your arm around his waist as the two of you walked through the streets of Gondolin—but he didn’t think much of it until one afternoon in the armoury, when you leaned over his shoulder to see what he was working on and he, distracted, muttered, “You’re awfully clingy today.”
𑁍 You gave him a slow blink, took one neat step back, and stayed there. He thought nothing of it until hours later when you left without your usual goodbye squeeze.
𑁍 The next morning, he found you speaking animatedly with Ecthelion, while standing a comfortable arm’s length away from him. That was when it hit him—you weren’t clingy anymore. Or maybe you were, just not with him. And that stung.
𑁍 Egalmoth, never one to let his pride be wounded so deadly, and taking it as a challenge to win you back, began turning up wherever you were—leaning against doorframes with a casual, “Hoping for a hug?” or deliberately walking far too close in the marketplace. You side-stepped him every time, which only made him more competitive about it.
𑁍 But deep down, he was also suffering from the lack of contact. Your domesticated him into humanly affections, he can't go a second without it. And paying the price was a ‘wound too deep,’ as he once quoted.
𑁍 In the training yard, he called out loudly enough for several elves to hear, “I feel positively abandoned! What happened to my ever-present shadow?” You gave him a blank expression and carried on watching the sparring match, unbothered.
𑁍 Never giving up, eventually, he got his chance when a street musician began playing a lively tune at a feast, and without warning, he swept you up into an impromptu dance, spinning you so you had no choice but to cling to him lest you be flung across the hall. “Ah, there you are, my little bear.”
𑁍 He stopped calling you clingy entirely, but from then on, he had the nerve to announce to anyone nearby when you hugged him: “Ah, balance is restored!”
⋆˚✿˖° Gwindor
𑁍 Having spent years in the horrors of Angband, Gwindor found your constant touches oddly comforting. It reminded him of the simple things worth coming back to—an arm linked through his, a hand on his back, your head resting on his shoulder.
𑁍 That was why, when he was in a tired mood, he said, “You really are…persistent in your closeness,” he was taken aback by how sharply you pulled away.
𑁍 “Persistent?” you repeated flatly, and walked off before he could explain.
𑁍 It didn’t take him long to realise how much the absence of your easy warmth was bothering him. Without it, his day felt strangely hollow. That’s when he knew he had to apologise and make it up to you.
𑁍 His first attempt to win you back was an awkward one—turning up at your door with a plate of food, claiming he’d “made too much,’ despite the fact that the kitchen staff had clearly done the cooking. You accepted it politely, and returned to your room, declining him entry (L).
𑁍 He cried that night.
𑁍 The next day, he found you in the stables and offered to help you with your work, only to get tangled in the reins and nearly get kicked by a horse. You had to catch his sleeve to pull him to safety, leading to him giving you such a boyish grin at the contact that you almost caved.
𑁍 Subtle realisation wasn’t going to cut it, he tried being honest. “I…liked it, you know. You being close. I only said what I did because I was tired, not because I wanted you to stop.”
𑁍 When you raised an eyebrow, he quickly added, “If you don’t go back to it, I’ll just have to start hanging off you myself.”
𑁍 You pretty much decided that you had enough fun making him suffer, which gave him the greatest sigh of relief. From then on, whenever you leaned on him, he made a point of resting his head on yours in quiet contentment.
⋆˚✿˖° Erestor
𑁍 Erestor was so used to people respecting his personal space he carried himself in a way that discouraged idle touching. You, however, with your natural humanly affections, ignored that completely.
𑁍 You tucked yourself under his arm during readings, leaned over his desk to point at whatever caught your interest, would even nudge his chair with your foot until he looked up from his writing, and even sneak a few kisses to his cheek when no one was looking.
𑁍 One afternoon, in the middle of an important scroll, you came up behind him and rested your chin on his shoulder. Without thinking, he murmured, “You’re rather clingy, you know,” still reading the parchment, without breaking focus.
𑁍 “I see,” you said, and left without another word. It wasn’t until later, when you passed him in the corridor with a polite nod and no more sweet smiles, that he realised the weight of what he’d done.
𑁍 The first thing he tried was pretending nothing had happened, but that failed spectacularly when you began addressing him in the same tone you used with near-strangers, and addressing him formally.
𑁍 His second attempt was to invite you to help him organise an arrival of rare books—usually the kind of offer you’d leap at—but you simply thanked him and said you were busy with Lord Glorfindel. You can bet his eye was twitching.
𑁍 He had finally resorted to something truly un-Erestor-like: showing up at your table during a crowded dinner, setting down his plate, and announcing with confidence, like he was giving a royal decree and you would agree. “You will sit with me tomorrow. And the day after. And until I am certain you understand that I do not mind your…proximity.”
𑁍 “You could just apologise if you swallowed your pride and say those 3 big words.”
𑁍 Knowing that you were right, but not wanting to extend his capacity for public displays, he glanced at you and murmured, “…Yes. That also.”
𑁍 From then on, though still dignified, he had a habit of brushing his sleeve against yours when you walked together, as if to quietly tell you your nearness was not only welcome but expected.
For: The Underrated Characters Event run by @doodle-pops
Warnings: Very mild blink and you might very well miss it angst.
Wordcount: 700 + words
Summary: Underrated character as a sworn shield
He is conscientious about his duties and refuses to ever step beyond the bounds of a sworn knight and protector. If he feels an attachment stronger than one of leal service, he will take care to keep it well hidden.
He will follow you wherever he is permitted to follow, his sword hand ever ready to reach for his sword. He will arrange the household guard around your doors, but he will walk by from
time to time, to ensure that they are carrying out their duties. Sometimes, he will take over the watch around dawn, just so that he can greet you in the morning.
“There is temper in the air, my lady,” he begins, “and the clouds are dark and grey. Would you consider an hour or two in the library after you have broken your fast?”
“Can we go to the conservatory afterward?” You say, eager to begin the day. “I hear a flower not seen by anyone else in this kingdom has already begun to bloom.”
“I will gladly take you there, my lady.”
- Erestor, Turgon, Gwindor, Galdor, Beleg
Bold, gallant, and ever ready for a fight, he will gladly face any danger heading your way with a smile on his face. But only after securing your safety first.
“Stay over there, my lady,” he will cry, “and do not leave until I say it is safe.”
He will fight off the danger, then come fetch you when you are safe. When you declare he is hurt, he brushes away your concerns with a wave of the hand.
“Tis but a scratch,” he will tell you. “All will be well, princess; just you wait and see.”
Once he is rested and healed from any injury he received, he will resume his usual duties.
Sometimes, he will teach you how to better ride a horse. Other times, he will indulge in your entreaties and give you rudimentary lessons in swordplay, laughing quietly to himself while you slash about like a lord deep in his cups. And then there will be the times when he will just sit or stand by your side, his gaze drifting toward you when your attention is elsewhere. There is more than duty in his eyes, but he tries his best to restrain it. Sometimes, he cannot, and he will resort to carefully couched teasing and flirting, wondering if you will ever notice.
- Amras, Elladan, Aegnor, Egalmoth, Argon
He is the sworn shield with an arrogant nature and a quick tongue. Nevertheless, he fulfils his duties with great meticulousness and care, and not a single aspect of your safety is left to chance. He will watch the others and immediately step in when they try to get too close or become too familiar with you.
“Lady Y/n must make her leave of you for the present,” he will say in a manner that is considered out of turn before you could even get a word in, “but she will return once she is finished with performing her courtesies to the others. Pray excuse us.”
No one would dare go against him, though, given his willingness to draw his sword for your sake. So they will bow and walk away, and he will walk you toward a quiet corner, far away from the prying eyes of others, so that you can compose yourself.
“That was unnecessary, sir,” you tell him. “What if they objected?”
“Only a fool would dare object to me. Are you well?”
“I am. Thank you for getting me away from them.”
It is the only way he can show his affection, for a union with you is forbidden to one such as him. Still, he does not give up, seeking a way that would bring you into his world as more than just the lady he had been charged to protect.
- Curufin, Amrod, Elrohir, Angrod
He will serve you as the grave, dutiful knight whose eyes discreetly follow your every move. He is forever courteous and never oversteps his remit as a protector. He shows due respect for the position you occupy, but sometimes—not always—but sometimes, it is hard for him to do so.
Nevertheless, he will bite his tongue and perform his duties without betraying a word of his true feelings.
“It is time for your audience with the ambassador, my lady,” he says. “I was told he would be waiting for you in the solar.”
“Ah, yes,” you reply stiffly. “My father’s efforts to see me wed to this Crown Prince minstrels wax poetic about.”
“It will be a most joyous occasion, my lady,” he says, his voice betraying none of his sadness. “And one that would be spoken about for years. Shall we go in?”
Summary: The Reader and Amrod were friends before the Fëanorians went away. Now that Amrod is released from the halls, the Reader isn't sure how to feel.
Warnings: mentiones of death (burning)
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
In the days when all had been right with the world, you had known Amrod well. You had been friends and you would have gone so far as to say that one day you would certainly have married. You didn't know if he felt for you the way you felt for him, but you loved him and there was no one else for you.
And then he just disappeared. At first you had hated Fëanor for taking your beloved Amrod away from you, but over time that anger had turned to sadness.
You could not hate Fëanor when he had been like a second father to you. Through your friendship with Amrod, you had met him many times and he had forged jewellery for you and helped you out in times of need.
That was also the reason why you and Nerdanel often met for tea after the disappearance of her family. She was like family to you too, and the thought that everyone else was gone weighed heavily on both of you.
But it was also at one of these tea meetings that a little bird with a letter flew in through the window.
It had been sent by Manwë to inform Nerdanel that the Valar had decided to release Amrod from Mandos.
The shock had been practically written all over her face and she seemed oblivious to everything around her, not even flinching when your teacup slipped from your hand and smashed on the floor.
They hadn't been gone that long. And already Amrod had died and come to Mandos? But how could that have happened? Was he okay?
Probably not, you realised grimly.
How had it happened? Were you allowed to see him?
Nerdanel was expected, if she wanted to see her son, to meet him at the gates of Mandos. And so she walked out the door without another word to you.
You couldn't blame her at all. You yourself were more than just shocked and had difficulty collecting your thoughts.
For a while, you just stared at the broken teacup on the floor, then you grabbed a large cloth to pick up the pieces.
You briefly toyed with the idea of waiting here to see Amrod, but then you were gripped by a fear you had never felt before. Your Amrod would no longer be your Amrod. He had probably changed or maybe he didn't want to see you at all.
So you ran as fast as your legs would carry you out of the door that Nerdanel had left open in her hurry.
It was many months after that before you saw her again.
Normally you met at least once a week, but now that you knew about Amrod's return, you avoided going near that house.
You didn't even really know what it was that you were so afraid of.
On the one hand, you could hardly wait to see Amrod again, but on the other hand, now that you had the chance, you suddenly had the urge to hide away somewhere and live for the rest of your life with only the memories of him that you already had. The good and peaceful memories of a happy life.
Nerdanel came by on a gloomy summer afternoon and knocked gently on your door. She looked more worried than usual, the circles under her eyes were deeper and her brows had drawn together.
"I need your help," she had said and then wordlessly motioned for you to follow her. At times like this, you missed Nerdanel's motherly smile, which she had often given you back then.
She led you to her house, the house you had been trying to avoid for months.
It hadn't really changed in appearance inside. Not that you would have expected that, but as vehemently as you had avoided it, you had somehow believed that something had changed.
Nerdanel stopped in the corridor just outside the front door and whispered softly, "He does not talk to me about anything." Then she looked at you, tears glistening in her eyes. "He always has these terrible nightmares, but he won't talk to me about them. I thought, since you are so close, you could try. Only if you want to, of course."
You nodded, swallowing hard. "I will do my best, but I cannot promise he will talk to me."
But Nerdanel only smiled. It was a small smile, but it was a start. "Thank you," she said and gave you a quick hug.
You knew the way to Amrod's room by heart. You had walked it so many times that you could find it with your eyes closed.
However, when you stood in front of Amrod's door, you hesitated briefly before knocking.
In the time he had been away, you had often come here and knocked on this door, but no one had ever answered, and each time it had broken you a little.
But this time there was an answer. "Come in." said... Amrod.
His voice sounded like it always had.
The tips of your fingers tingled as you placed them on the door handle and entered the room.
The room was messier than usual, but otherwise looked almost unchanged, which gave you a stab in your heart and made you think back to how much time you had spent here back then.
Amrod sat by the window, looking out over the forest behind the house where you had once gobe for a hunt with Aredhel, Celegorm and Huan. You felt as if it had all happened in another life.
He didn't turn to you until you softly breathed his name. He jumped up so hastily that the chair he had been sitting on tipped to one side.
Amrod looked as if he wanted to say something, but he couldn't get a sound out. And then suddenly there were tears on his cheeks.
"You- you are here." he whispered so quietly that you barely heard it.
You nodded. "Yes, I am here, Amrod."
He took a step closer to you and suddenly it seemed only natural for you to step closer too. You held your arms out to him and silently asked him if it was okay.
Instead of answering you, he stepped into your arms and buried his face in your neck. His hands grabbed your clothing and held on to it as if he was afraid you would disappear if he didn't.
You gently wrapped your arms around him and buried your face in his shoulder. "I am here Amrod. I am here."
For a while you just stood there, then suddenly he said, "It hurts so much."
"What?" you asked, startled, "What hurts?" Was he in pain right now?
"How it- " he sniffled, "how it happened." And you realised what he tried to say.
"Fire." he finally whispered and you pressed him even tighter against you, because he didn't have to explain what he meant for you to understand. "There was fire everywhere."
"It- "you wanted to say it is okay, but was it really? "You are here now."
"And you are with me." Amrod whispered softly. "And the fire is gone. And Atya- " he paused and sobbed quietly against your neck. "I cannot talk about it yet."
You gently stroked his spine with your fingers. "Then let us not talk about it yet. We have time."
"Will you stay?" he asked hopefully.
"As long as you want me to stay," you answered honestly.
Amrod nodded slightly. "I want you to stay forever."
This ask has been on my mind since like FOREVER 💗💗💗💗💗💗
I was wondering if you could do a feanorians x little brother ft nolofinwe where y/n was born very weak and frail but was still loved by his family dearly just that because of his frail body he's constantly bullied and hit by other elflings (and maybe some adults). Whenever he sees his brothers and father he feels so utterly useless but bottles everything up .
Make it end up in fluff please 🙏🙏
Thank you and have a wonderful day/night ❣️

a/n am still uneasily writing about kids - so I made it into a headcanon. Idk if this is what you intended am sorry - so you can request else where because idk what else to do this - but I hope you at least like it @oggy4god
warnings angry overprotective family members xD
FEANOR:
As your dad - expect him to treat you the same as any other of your brothers. He doesn’t care whether or not you were born weak - Feanor still wants to achieve your goals and dreams, like each of his other sons did. He would help you achieve it too.
Eru forbid if he witnesses anyone bullying you he will turn their lives to literal hell. He would protect you with his might and title - the most important to him being a father. He will allow no harm to come upon you. After your bullying incidents he keep just an extra eye and care on you - letting you know you can always talk to him. He will be extra caring on your side.
If you ever feel useless compared to him - he will tell you otherwise and make you shine with your skills, no matter how small they may be, he is so proud of you.
NERDANEL:
I love her, OK? I could not miss your hot momma out. Just like Feanor, she wouldn’t see you any less. You receive a little more attention from her (sometimes your brothers are a little jealous of this but they understand and love you) - more care too. She will encourage you and help you every step of the way to help you achieve your dreams - she sits with you day and night.
Nerdanel is someone who doesn’t like to use the terms “weak” or people referring to you having a “condition” - she likes to think you were extra blessed by Eru, especially when you start to show your kindness and uniqueness to the world - showing your hidden talents. She is the proudest mother - and she shows it.
Your mother would be first to witness the change in your moods - you starting to get depressed. She knows you very well and finds the reasons behind it without having to even question. She likes to deal with it quietly - but if your bullies ceases to stop, she is not afraid to take it to the next level. If she uses her title among the Nolder for anyone, it will be for her children - especially you darling.
Sometimes she cries herself to sleep - thinking about all that you had to face alone and how hard it must have been for you and why you didnt come to her.
In seeing you like this - she understands depression and other mental illnesses so she advises and helps to start therapy or retreats among elves - knowing it is more common than one would think.
Oh - and if it comes to having to get getting revenge on the kindergarten moms who bullied her kid. . . oh, she will ! ! !
Nerdanel consoles her son -and then takes her revenge on those who mistreated him.
MAEDHROS:
As your oldest brother - he advises you like a 2nd father, he isn’t afraid to step in when Feanor is away to come and protect you. He lets you take it a little more easier in training. When you cannot achieve anything as fast as your brothers - he sits down next to you and comforts you with small pet talks. He tries to make you feel better about yourself by telling the number of times he failed before achieving something - letting you know how things take time and life isn’t about a race. Mae tells you to believe in yourself and that is the most important thing - he tells you to listen to yourself and the people that are family - “They say many things - but you mustn’t listen to them, but to the people you keep in here” - points to your heart.
When you finally learn to achieve a level in your training - he has the biggest proud face. He picks you up and places you on his shoulders, cheering for you.
MAGLOR:
While your mother invites therapy for mental health - your big brother Maglor creates songs to boost up your self esteem. Ever seen music fights? - Yes, he does that to your bullies, before filling you with a heart warming and encouraging song like in those Disney movies - he becomes Baloo (The Jungle Book) or even Genie (Aladdin).
He becomes your personal cheerleader - singing from the top of his lungs as Mae carries you on his shoulders.
CELEGORM:
While he doesn’t show it well - he loves you greatly. If he ever sees anyone bullying you and making you feel bad about yourself - big bad brother Tyelko is going to threaten the very lives of your bullies, he becomes the bully of your bullies LMAOO.
He then feels better and drops in front of you - wrapping his arm around your shoulder insisting you go for a hunt that’s the only way he knows how to comfort. Otherwise he gets either Nerdanel, Mae or Maglor.
Expect Huan to be the bestest boi to protect you from big bad brother Tyelko is away to bully the bullies that tried to hurt you.
CARANTHIR:
If anyone learns of you being mistreated first, it is your overprotective big brother Cara - he sees red when he sees or hears of someone bullying you. Cara would straight up punch them in the face - he doesn’t care who/what they are: “HOW DARE YOU EVEN THINK OF LAYING A HAND ON MY BABY BROTHER?!”
His words are searing with deadly anger - making them cower in fear. He will make sure they apologize to you - the one that you deserve. While Cara is caring, initially he is mad at you for hiding or bottling up everything. Afterwards he vows to let no harm come to you. Cara knows what it is like to be judged on - because of his ruddy freckles skin.
Slowly the both of you become closer to each other like this - gradually opening up to each other and he has the proudest look on his face when he sees you defending him, small tears even gathers in his eyes.
CURUFIN:
Like Cara - he is so mad you had no one told anyone of your mistreatments, he will report straight to Feanor. He doesn’t know how to comfort - he never learnt that so he pulls you to the others to give you comfort, though he becomes the extra pair of eyes to protect you from anyone who dares to mistreat you. He can be a little hard on you at times - but when he learns he’s causing you hurt too he immediately stops - he does care deeply for you but he doesn’t know how to help you otherwise.
AMBARUSSA:
Please - if your older twin brothers ever sees someone hurting you - expect them to prank (and scare) the life out of them. They are letting no one hurt you in any way - they take on their roles of becoming your big brothers very seriously - even if at times it seems like it doesn’t.
Sometimes during training they purposefully fall behind you making you go ahead of them or failing on pretend - because they love seeing that triumphant amazed smile on your face once in a while. They will literally do anything to make you happy - once even daring to cut the hair of your school teacher that was giving you a hard time - “He doesn’t deserve it - if he cannot treat someone as amazing you right ! ! ! - Even Atar isn’t mad at us!”
FINGOLFIN:
Best Uncle Nolofinwë seeing this precious little nephew getting mistreated? - Oh, he will not allow such a thing to happen, for a split second he is about to lose his anger like your father - but he controls it and does it the right way of reporting it and making sure they achieve their punishment to even dare to think of doing such a thing to you.
Afterwards - waiting for Feanor to come, he will take your hands in his and talk to you in a calm caring voice - telling you it is OK to feel like the way you and that everyone does feel like this once in a while - but the most important this is not let it cast you down: “You may think you only feel like this, young one - but we all do. . .Some are better at hiding than others and it is never good to hide it. We must accept that sometimes we need a little help. . .a little encouragement from the bad thoughts - and most importantly. . .you must never let these thoughts or words of others plague your heart, my dearest little nephew. . .”
Feanor is a little jealous and scowling at how his half-brother is having a moment with his son - expect your father to be in a sour mood and scowling at Fingolfin for a few moments before he turns to you and provides you the best of comfort - also severing the punishments for your bullying while your uncle shakes his head but offers your something in between a smile and a smirk.
I have seen a lot of blogs do this and I wanted to try myself :)

Amrod, your ammë is so wonderful and so beautiful?! Like, her smile, her eyes, her laugh? She's one of the loveliest elves I have seen! Now I get where you and your brothers get your good looks from ;)
“Yes, indeed. She is beautiful, but I might have to disagree with you on something, I'm the more handsome twin. My brother wishes he was as handsome as I,” he proudly boasted while flexing his arms to show off his biceps and pushing his hair back to reveal his beautiful face.

People say that love goes through the stomach, and in a way it does. When we love someone we make them food and give them our peeled oranges. We want them to feel happy and be healthy. Making something with your hands is and always has been a love language.
Especially for those with soft, ruddy and freckled faces.

(Y/N POV)
Many people have head canons about Caranthir enjoying baking. Including me. And I’m hell bent on finding out today. The weather forecast said that today would be a rainy and cool day. So it won’t be excruciating to stand in the kitchen baking things.
I’m thinking about baking something with cherries and chocolate. The cherry harvest has been fantastic lately so there’s plenty to eat and work with. I wonder if Caranthir also likes cherries? Maybe something with coffee…. Now that I think about it, I should invite Amrod as well. He’s been quiet for a while. Perhaps more than usual.
I’ve been sitting in a daze on the couch for quite some time now. The rain on the windows and rooftop isn’t helping with keeping me awake. Instead it’s lulling me to sleep. I decide to force myself to get up despite the onsetting sleepiness. I don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to get to know them better.
I walk towards the kitchen to prep the ingredients. Cherries, dark cacao powder, sugar, butter , eggs etc. I’ve placed most things on the counter. Eggs and butter need to be room temperature to get the best results. Otherwise you’ll waste too much energy trying to force the ingredients together. Now all I need to do is get Caranthir and Amrod to agree with baking something together. I walk off towards their rooms quickly. Excited about the prospect of being able to see Caranthir’s baking skills. If the head canons turn out to be true that is….
I knock on the door and open it slowly. Giving the elves enough time to acknowledge my presence. I find Caranthir working at his desk, he doesn’t look up when I enter. He only grunts and continues to scribble away at his notes. I get greeted by a warm smile from Curufin instead. He seems to have gotten more comfortable with me the past few days. I remember the first day we met crystal clear. We butt heads pretty fast. He tried to disassemble my grandfather’s antique clockworks. I would’ve been in some serious trouble if he had succeeded. I’m glad we seem to be roughly on the same page now.
Celegorm and I though…..I sometimes think that we aren’t even reading the same book, so no chance of being on the same page here. Not at all times though, sometimes we actually seem to come to a natural understanding of each other. It surprises me how he is so gentle, with wildlife and others he cares for, it’s a stark contrast to the predominating “Lúthien stealing and cocky snob” elf I perceived him as before.
My train of thought was soon enough lost on all the ways I connected to these elves. It made me feel warm inside. Not a moment later my attention was brought back to reality by an arguing Caranthir and Curufin. I entirely missed the point of their discussion. So I kind of just stood there like a piece of misplaced décor. I really should be asking Cara about whether or not he’d like to join me… otherwise the butter will end up melting before we even get to it… I thought to myself.
I muster up some courage before I decide to jump straight into the lion’s mouth.
“Caranthir? I was wondering if you’d maybe like to join me and maybe Amrod to bake something? I heard that you enjoy baking so I thought that we’d try something with cherries and chocolate.” I said.
He fell silent for a moment, pondering whether to join or not. “Will there be coffee involved?” he asked. His face seemed to dance right past the line of ‘either there be coffee or no me.’ Does he really like coffee that much….
“Ah, yes sure! We can add some into the baked goods or just have a cup on the side if you’d like.” I said, aware of the sheepish expression on my face. He nodded, seemingly content with the knowledge of getting a few cups of coffee out of it.
He turned back to his desk, cleaning off and putting away any papers he still had on his desk. Neatly stacking them in a drawer. He turned to Curufin saying something along the lines of ‘we’ll finish this discussion later’. I wasn’t paying much attention to things today. It must be something in the rain.
I smile at Curvo and excuse myself from their room, walking towards the twins’ bedroom. Hopeful to catch Amrod on time. Again knocking on the door to their room I wait for a ‘come in’. Though as soon as I knocked Amras had opened the door. “Hey y/n, what brings you here?” he asks. “I was looking for Amrod, I was hoping he’d join me and Caranthir for a bit of baking.” told him, looking over his shoulder to try and catch a glimpse of his brother. Amrod has not only been fairly quiet but also hasn’t left his shared room much at all as of late. It worried me a little.
Amras turned back towards his brother and talked to him for a bit about whether or not he felt up to it. Turning back to where I stood, Amras told me Amrod would join us in the kitchen in a little while. So I smiled and left for the kitchen. Hopefully the butter hasn’t gotten too soft yet…..
---------------
When I arrived in the kitchen Caranthir was already there. He had his hair in a thick braid, no longer wearing the layers upon layers of coverings to hide his reddened skin. Instead favoring something lighter, still modest, but not as suffocating as what he wore when I asked him to come downstairs. He looked nice, it seemed to help him cool down as well.
“What are you waiting for? For the butter to finally melt so far it drips off the counter?” he bit at me. I notice a small smidge of blush on his face. He might’ve thought I was judging his skin…. He’s always been made fun of it by his brothers. I avert my gaze towards the poor, nearly melted clump of butter on the counter. I guess the rain doesn’t cool down enough for butter to stay solid.
“Ah…you’re right, we’d better hurry then! Would you mind mixing the sugar, eggs and butter together while I pit the cherries?” I laughed some, renewing my motivation to bake. Those cherries look so amazing, I can’t wait to eat them. Caranthir grunted in reply and went on to combining some ingredients together quietly. A faint blush on his face that just wouldn’t leave.
I knew cherries stained but this was ridiculous. My hands looked like I spilled a litre of reddish purple ink all over my hands. Luckily I didn’t get any juice on my clothes. There’s no way I would’ve been able to get that out. My train of thought gets interrupted by a snort to my right. I turn to look and see Caranthir openly laughing at the “dyed” state of my hands. As if he could do it without creating any less messiness in the process. I give him a pointed look. He only smirks and continues combining the damned eggs with the rest of the equally damned butter-sugar mixture.
Whatever for was I feeling so salty? I have no idea. As if he were the very answer to my prayers, Amrod walked into the kitchen. Interrupting my séance of saltiness.
“I see you already started. Anything I could help with?” He said while staring at my hands with a strange look. As soon as it had passed through his eyes it had already disappeared. He turned his gaze away from my hands to look at anything other than the red stains which adorned them.
I asked him to heat up the oven. This turned out to be a challenge since he had no idea how ovens here work. After explaining how the oven worked he managed just fine. I mashed up the cherries into a jam like consistency and strained some of the juice into a cup to use in the cake.
Caranthir was eyeing the coffee machine for a while now. So I took that as a que for a coffee break. As soon as the three of us had settled for a moment it seemed that it wouldn’t be for long, Amrod had sneaked his hand into the bag of flour and kept it close to him as if he had nothing in his hand. Within seconds all hell broke loose. Amrod had thrown a generous helping of flour in Caranthir’s face, I wasn’t spared of his trickery either. This led to an all out flour war between the three of us. The whole kitchen was covered in a fine helping of flour within a few moments.
Caranthir’s face grew redder and redder with each second to pass by. He was no better than his youngest brother, fully engaging in the flour fight himself. At some point I had hidden under the kitchen table trying to catch a break from getting white pasty dust stuffed up my nose. This didn’t last long as Amrod had found me under the table and not so graciously dragged me by the ankle from under it as a ‘war-prisoner’.
At some point we finally stopped our flour-fight in favor of finishing the cake we were planning on baking. Each one of us having cherry juice smeared on their limbs and flour in our hair and clothes. At least we all had some form of a smile on our faces, having somewhat enjoyed pummelling each other with flour.
After a long time of prepping we finally got to sit down at the kitchen table. The rain was still pouring outside the window. Now that I’ve sat down I can actually feel the chill in the air from the cooling rain, even inside of the house. A cup of tea in front of all three, to warm us up a little. It’s an incredibly wet and cold day for summer. It feels more like autumn really. We sat in silence for a while, none of us sure of what to say or do to spark conversation. The silence between us was comfortable.
“Why did you invite us to come bake something with you?” Amrod’s question startled me from my daze. “Mostly because I heard about the both of you enjoying baking and doing things with your hands I suppose. No real rhyme or reason behind it other than this.” I said. I wasn’t aware of any ulterior motives of my own. The only idea that came to mind was wanting to spend time with them and not having a real excuse to do so. Even in my world they still seem to be busy with matters of their homeland. Either directly or indirectly. So I can’t just pop into their rooms to spend time with them whenever I wish to. It makes me a little sad.
“Say, have you ever wondered or known what your love languages are?” I asked, looking up at their confused faces I realize that might’ve been a strange thing to ask. Both were silent, I now feel stupid for even asking. I was about to open my mouth to backtrack but I get cut off by Amrod. “I think something that is predominantly a Fëanorian love language is making things by hand. All in our family do it to some extent. Curvo and Atar are most noticeable examples, since they craft for those they love.” He smiled remembering his home and family life.
“ Not to forget Moryo, he bakes things frequently as a sign of care.” He added. Caranthir scoffed and turned tomato red at his brother’s remark. He’s so emotionally constipated…… I thought while watching poor Moryo be teased by his younger brother. “Ah! I remember once when I was sick he spent hours in the kitchen concocting some soup and warm honey cake. He cares so much yet he only shows it through his hands. If he likes you enough that is.” Amrod laughed loudly about the steadily reddening face of his elder brother. What was once a tomato red was now a deep cherry red. I was tempted to hold my hand to his forehead to check for fever. It couldn’t possibly be healthy to turn that shade of red.
Once again our sweet moment was interrupted by the oven alarm going off to signal the cake being ready. Caranthir was the first to storm off towards the oven. Helplessly trying to get it to shut up. I got up quickly to make sure my oven didn’t get the angry- Moryo treatment like the door to the bathroom had gotten a week ago. If you look closely you’ll see it has a slight dent in it now. Nothing serious, but still there. Caranthir had calmed down some as soon as I turned the alarm off. No longer as irritated by the incessant beeping.
An hour had passed and the cake was finally put together. It was a bootleg black forest cake. With golden hearts and halved cherries on the tuffs of whipped cream. It looked lovely. We put it in the fridge to set until everyone could gather to enjoy it.
When I turned around to put my apron back I lost my footing, tripping over air like I’ve done many times before. Though this time I wasn’t met with the hard ground, but someone’s chest instead.
---------
Caranthir POV
I was going to walk off after cleaning the mess we made with the flour when I heard a yelp behind me. I turned around and saw y/n falling over, straight into my arms. Luckily I caught them in time. Otherwise they would’ve gotten hurt badly. I looked up to see Amrod’s worried face staring back at them and me. Y/n looked dishevelled, leaning against my chest. They were having trouble composing themselves it seemed. I don’t know what to do with the close proximity between us. I don’t want them to feel uncomfortable. That’s the last thing I’d want after all I’ve somehow come to feel for this Edain.
I let them rest against me for a few moments longer until they pull away themselves. Still holding them by their elbows. They seem to have come to their senses, suddenly their complexion looking a lot more akin to the one I see in the mirror everyday. The color blooming over their face like flowers in the morning sun. It makes me feel softer than I should have ever allowed myself to feel.
They lean further away from me, finally disconnecting at the elbow. I am suddenly aware of how cold the room is.
Was the room always this cold…..?
------------
Amrod POV
I saw y/n tripping over their feet straight into Moryo’s arms. They seemed to have twisted their ankle somehow. I’ll need to make them some ointment for that… I thought. They must be in pain. I’ll have to ask them if I can use some of the medicinal herbs from the garden for that. Seeing y/n so close to him makes me feel a strange type of unease in my fëa. Something has woken inside me. I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding.
I should be happy that Moryo caught them on time……right…?
