the angst of this pairing with both of them genuinely loving and caring about each other but virgil being constantly suspicious of patton’s over-the-top friendliness

i love a miscommunication trope if and only if it serves as a vehicle for characters to learn healthier communication styles and i truly feel that is the Moxiety Way (tm) bc there is so much fondness and respect between them yknow?

“I—“ Janus can’t help but laugh. This is ridiculous. “Yeah, fuck it. Do your worst. I’ll be expecting it next time.”

Patton nods, enthusiastic. Janus gives him a quick nod back, before going to take a seat.

The next time he comes in during Patton’s shift, he gets a haphazard flower drawn on his latte. The next time, it’s a cat. Sometimes, it’s generic latte art. Sometimes (read: often), it is unintelligible. Once, he overhears Roman ask for a portrait and wishes he could have seen how the fuck that turned out. It does make his day a little better, having the little latte arts. It’s also weirdly validating to know that Patton looks at him too, sometimes. They smile at each other now whenever they go to look at the same time.

Janus no longer feels like he’s been caught doing something bad when Patton’s eyes meet his.
