I keep thinking about the "confession" we get in The Summer Hikaru Died, specifically the Anime version. And how absolutely GUTWRENCHING of a confession scene it is, without it even being a romantic one!!! I in particular always think about the fucking FACE Yoshiki makes. ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING.

He gets to hear the words he has wanted and feared to hear for so long in the voice he's wanted to hear, coming from the body he wanted to hear it from, but it's not coming from the person he wanted to hear it from. it isn't the same person. it isn't even a romantic confession. and it's still just as important. and it still tears him apart. "Hikaru" loves Yoshiki in a way he can't even reciprocate, because they are fundamentally different beings. they cant love each other in the same way. Their versions of what is considered love is alien to the other, and yet they are still important to one another. This is not the same person that he loved, but this "person" is still important to him.

I had more to say but words stopped wording so, I guess I'll just say I REALLY love how the anime did this scene. Idk it was just so well done in it's composition and execution.

#I say “feared to hear” because well. Internalized homophobia and all. There certainly seems to be a level of self hatred that goes on #in Yoshiki's feelings toward his own homosexuality- since we see him refer to it as gross n such.#Also I know the manga did this scene in a different way- but hey- let me appreciate the way the anime did it okaaay #because this scene made me fucking FEEL the way Yoshiki looks in that scene okay?!!? Frame redraw c0m for my little sibling-in-law of the grand USOPP POUND!!! Did this as a custom card sleeve for them, making this the second time I’ve done a custom One Piece TCG card/sleeve for them. It was fun translating this horizontal scene into a vertical one while still keeping the weight and momentum of the moment.
