Like, no one did force Rowling to get into bitchfights on twitter.
There are plenty of directors and writers and creatives of all sorts on twitter, tumblr, etc, and only a few of them feel the need to turn their social media into... that *gestures vaguely at JKR's Twitter feed*
Like, Neil Gaiman is here on tumblr, and that's awesome, but even though by all evidence I agree with him on most major issues to varrying degrees, I wouldn't really want to see the man going full Rowling, but for my side.
I mean, no one should, but definitely not when you're a writer with your name and work attached to your social media, like that.
I'm not a social media expert but Twitter really is The Worst, isn't it?
I mean, it feels wrong to blame the platform rather than the people using it, but it really seems to attract the most unhinged elements.
I genuinely do not recall which fandom I was active in circa 2009 when Twitter was really getting huge, but I can remember sitting in my old apartment reading some screenshots (probably on LJ) and just thinking
"..... yikes"
Not only did it give people the opportunity to - let's not mince words - virtually stalk their celebrity faves, crushes etc, but also to demand the actual people interact with them, agree with them, vocally support their own interpretation of the fandom.
I'm not being wise after the event, I genuinely remember thinking this would lead to some scary places. And while some fans thought it would enhance their enjoyment of fandom, I felt it was likely to do the opposite.
I don't have Facebook. My rarely-used Instagram is just pictures of weird leaves and stuff I find. Tumblr isn't perfect and I know there are some assholes on here, but it doesn't seem to have the capacity for pure evil the way Twitter does. Or at least, it doesn't seem to attract as many people hell-bent on using it to cause harm.
I just so R*na fan saying that "portwell and rini are STRONG and thriving on every other platform BUT Twitter, and so Rinas need to get their numbers up on other platforms bc no one's calling these ppl out" is so revolting to me , because ok, twitter is already a toxic environment, so does this person still want to create an even more toxic environment? why? Can we just enjoy our ships without attacking each other?
They might as well just write “THREATENED” on their foreheads PLEASEEHBSJSJ
They’re so entitled like they can’t just let people ship what they want in peace. I don’t ship Rina AT ALL & I could write a whole ass essay on why it’s toxic, embarrassing & why it shouldn’t even happen but I don’t because it’s NOT THAT DEEP. These are all fictional characters on a fictional tv show for teens. Why can’t they just try to focus on their own ship and stop being so miserable all the time by spewing hate 24/7.
Literally, GET. A. LIFE.
Twitter sucks
That is all. Though the Japanese artists, seiyuus, mangakas, and others who use it are cool.
My Twitter isn’t popular, but in case anyone wonders why I’m shutting it down, this is why. I’m not on social media for politics, and I’m far beyond fed up with the blatant racism promoted by websites like Twitter and Tumblr.
Seems like a lot of folks these days don’t have the capacity to get beyond skin-deep, yet think coining racist terms will make up for their lack of intelligence and character. You can’t get any more pathetic or ignorant than that.
Imagine how you’d take this if “white” were replaced with any other race.
Not just tumblr but Twitter too??
I'm so glad there's another OUAT news blog aside from sbmirror right now because the reblogs and comments on Horowitz's "ooh look Carlyle's chair you like Rumple don't you? Shame if something *happened* to him cough*death*cough" post from sbmirror seem to be mostly from rejoicing Hook fans asking if or assuming he dies. Also the very first comment on the original tweet was CAPTAIN SWAN in all caps. I wish someone would incontrovertibly spoil the shit out of Rumple's fate-ABC's promo team, maybe?
Well, if it’s anything like last year, we’ll get promo photos of his dead body. Yay.
I too am glad there’s a news blog that tries to be objective, aka not a sniveling outlet for one fanbase.
As for Twitter, it is a CeSspool of humanity. With the exception of a certain coterie here, the worst of Tumblr CS (and frankly almost every fanbase) is leagues better than the nicest of Twitter. (Which seems true of every fanbase, to be fair; the only reason that Rumbellers aren’t as bad is that almost none of us are there.)
Anyway, I am certainly going to enjoy the backlash Adam gets for this tweet if “something happens” to Rumple. It will be almost as good as the general disgust with most of Eddy’s comments (ie. that in the finale last year “Robin would be dealing with the events of the ep before”--the one in which he died--or that we’d “see Belle as never before”--ie. dried bones). Those two--such jokers! Ha. Ha. Ha.
