Traditional German Apple Strudel from Scratch
Fooduary 2026: Austrian Apple Strudel.
Apple strudel is a classic Viennese strudel, and its oldest known recipe is from 1697. Strudel uses unleavened dough folded over a apple filling. Apple strudel is considered to be one of the national dishes of Austria.
Austria used to be a part of the Austro-Hungarian empire so there is a lot of traditional clothing crossover with neighboring regions like Bavaria. I added apple-focused decorations and a lattice-pastry apron... because I thought it was cute!

Applin Of My Eye (feat. Cherche!)
As we make our way into apple season, I thought I’d make a version of “my favorite fruit” for Ikrit & his Flapple, Cherche! 🍎🍃
One of Ikrit’s favorite fruits (if not THE favorite) is apples. He has an apple every day, & loves those spiced treats often featuring apples or pumpkin. Lucky for him, I also love apples, & this time of year, I get / make apple everything (like apple grilled cheese)! >u<
It was easier thinking of non-desserts to include this time. The curry rice might need some extra explaining though lol: lots of Japanese-style curries have apples as a base (our favorite is Vermont Curry that uses apples & honey). 🍛
How are you celebrating apple season? 🥧
Decided to finally colour my MaoMao spread that I drew in November.
